As the title says, I'm looking for the best smörgåsbord in Fairfax County. We have a Swedish exchange student who will be living with us this year and we would like to take her out for a little taste of home. Many thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. Never been to Peter Pan - guess we'll go check it out. Ikea is not really what we're looking for. I'm going to check and see if there are any upcoming events at the Swedish embassy that we can crash.

Contrary to stereotype, the student is not hot nor does she have blonde hair. She's built like a block with scraggly reddish-brown hair but she seems sweet. I'm really not comfortable rating the hotness of an underage female, but lets just say I hope she's just in a cocoon phase and will one day emerge as a beautiful butterfly.

I've never heard of a Swedish style smorgasbord around here but it would be nice if we had one. Last I heard of one was 20 years ago in Minneapolis. Good luck at the Embassy.

I'd also recommend any of the buffets at The Bellagio in Las Vegas. Yeah, yeah...not NOVA.

I think the Swedish embassy is the only place. I've been studying Swedish for 3 years now and if there was a restaurant around here I would of heard of it by now.

There is also a German grocery store in Falls Church that has a bunch of Swedish as well as other Scandinavian groceries for sale. www.germangourmet.com

There is also a Church in DC, forget the name exactly, but once a month they have services held in Swedish and some other holiday things including possibly food. I've never been there.

I stayed for 10 days on Lidingö last September and am looking forward to going back sometime soon.

I have been told by European friends that in Sweden when they eat at Smorgasbord they dont do it like we do, they put a small first course on the plate eat that , a second eat that so on. All the people over there in all the countries do the same.

Here in the USA we have our own way which I perfer. Load up with every good thing in site and chown down ,the old feed bag, dig in. It is disgusting to the Europeans but hey we do it our way.

As said take her to the old Country Buffet and jsut let her know that the Swedish style is not exactly found around here but it does exist in the USA.
And tell her these places OCB are popular and the food is not all too bad. If you want to be polite eat several plates with small servings as said of like foods in courses.

Doubt you will find a smorgasbord place around here. The closest semblance would be Ikea.LOL. Years ago in NYC, there was The Stockholm. It no longer exists.
