Fairfax would gain from comprehensive immigration reform
Posted by: Rev. Alfonso & Dr. Dab Narvaez ()
Date: July 05, 2013 09:20AM

We are writing as seniors who retired to Fairfax County three years ago, drawn by its cultural diversity, vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, and pro-family values.

We are following closely the debate of comprehensive immigration reform legislation as it is currently playing out in the U.S. House of Representatives. We believe that the passage of a bill similar to the one recently approved by the U.S. Senate, entitled the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (S.744), will have a profound positive impact on the quality of life and economy of Fairfax County.

A recent study by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects that reform as it is stipulated in S. 744 will result in a ten-year increase of 24,000 new jobs and $670 million in new tax revenues for Virginia. Northern Virginia, as the state’s economic powerhouse, is expected to benefit from a significant proportion of those increases.

Reform as proposed will prioritize the naturalization of immigrant college graduates in the critical areas of science, engineering and technology, not only fast-tracking those permanent residents already living and educated in the area, but reducing the current backlog of those seeking visas to enter the country. This will infuse our local economy with talented and educated entrepreneurs and boost local business for the long term.

Seniors without documentation living with their families in Fairfax County will no longer have to fear deportation if the proposed reform is passed, and students brought here as children will have a clear pathway to naturalized status, and eventually, citizenship. This will reinforce and strengthen the cultural diversity and pro-family values which are so much a part of the Fairfax County way of life, and which, again, were an important part of our decision to move here.

We ask fellow Fairfax County residents to support comprehensive immigration reform and strongly urge our elected officials to do the same.

The Rev. Alfonso and Dr. Dabney Narvaez, Reston

What about the other side of this? With a massive amount of immigrants being added into the system?

"A recent study by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office"

Not.Even.Close. The CBO report doesn't even break out $$/state. Good try there, Dr. Numbnuts.

The CBO said this bill would grant US citizenship to 42 million people over the next 20 years. How will quadrupling northern Virginia's Latino population over the next 20 years help native born Americans? Let's see

- subsistence level wages for all blue collar jobs including customer service, labor, construction, skilled trades, entry level jobs or just any job a high school grad does

- more expensive housing as in rents reaching levels average people can't afford since immigrants pool resources to rent homes/apartments. The ability for the average NoVa resident to buy a home completely gone but who would want to when your neighborhood could turn into a foreign enclave from who knows where at any time

- overcrowded housing and neighborhoods, 10 to 20 people living in houses that a single family should be living in. Neighborhoods you can no longer drive through due to each household parking 7 or 8 cars on the street

- more traffic and the continued expansion of exurbs; as you know wise doctors all population growth in the US is from immigration

- when foreign geriatrics become citizens they will use Medicare paid for by US citizens

- When the children of central Americans go to the Dr it's paid for by Medicaid; spend some time watching UNIVISION and notice the blaring letters on advertisements for pediatricians "MEDICAID, MEDICAID, MEDICAID"

- public schools that Americans can no longer send their children to because there are gangs (MS-13, SUR 13), the predominant language is Espanol, harassment from nutjob imported children, an inability for learning to occur because of prevailing 3rd world mores

- the occasional plane flying into the Pentagon where people we know and care about work

-the complete loss of social trust and communities

-The balkanization of our region and complete loss of basic quality of life

- the pain of seeing your community regress and finally disappear

Lastly, the majority of us don't want to be ethnically cleansed from the place we grew up by Latinos or Koreans, or Indians or anybody else. We have the same right to exist as all other people. You don't give a shit about immigrants you hate us.

That's why Fairfax passed a more agressive occupancy law. I think they saw this coming.

Please open your doors and invite these people into your homes. Don't teach them English. You learn their language. It's okay if they slaughter chickens in your kitchen. I'm also working to introduce legislation that will legalize wife beating and drunk driving for new Citizens. Vote for me! I love Shariah law too.

Unemployment last years and no welfare isnt temporary, 20 percent of people on it have been on it over 5 years, another 27% between 2 and 5 years.

How much in benefits do I get and for how long?

Currently the maximum weekly benefit amount is $378 and the minimum is $54. Individuals must have earned at least $18,900.01 in two quarters during the base period to qualify for the maximum weekly benefit amount. Benefit duration varies from 12 to 26 weeks, also depending on wages earned in the base period.

So, you are 100% wrong and lying.

Says the fool who wishes to ignore the Fed Emergency Unemployment Compensation...

For 2013, the maximum weeks of available unemployment benefits are:
•73 Weeks (including state unemployment benefits which are a maximum of 26 weeks

Of course, jughead is the same idiot who couldn't comprehend the gas tax change, so pointing out that 73 weeks is greater than one year will go over his head as well.

Does this guy actually check anything before he repeats it?

Unemployment under any circumstance has never exceeded 99 weeks, and is only available to those who have lost thier jobs - they must have been employed before collecting it, and they were terminated (not quit) for a reason other than thier own fault.

TANF has a LIFETIME maximum of 60 months.

I do wonder what's going to happen when these folks have fallen through all of the social safety-nets.

The Fed thing was a 73 week EXTENSION off current policy, which equals what is above. 26 weeks is still the MAX in VA. You do not GET 73 WEEKS dumbass.

Compared with whites, Blacks had 51% higher and Hispanics had 21% higher obesity rates.

In most of the states examined, blacks had the highest prevalence (number of existing cases in a defined group of people during a specific time period) of obesity, followed by Hispanics, and then whites. Greater prevalences of obesity for non-Hispanic blacks and whites were found in the Midwest and South. Among Hispanics lower prevalence was observed in the Northeast compared to other regions.

Sounds like a couple of typical liberal ideologues hiding behind religion to push socialism.

Legalizing these border jumpers will not help America or the American worker because-

*The majority will pay NO taxes anyway because of low income.

*Because they are low income, they will qualify for relief, welfare, public assistance, food stamps.

*Because they make so little money, they will not be able to afford any fine that comes with reform.

*If they demand higher wages from those who illegally employ them because of there new legal status, they will be replaced by more illegals willing to work for less.

*Illegals are NOT being deported anyway, why act like this is urgent?

Reform helps pandering Democrats increase voter roles and greedy Republican business owners get cheap labor.

If you are rich enough to benefit from a "servant class", immigration reform is for you.

If you work in any competitive field, you are hurting yourself.

FUCK YOU OP.

Most already pay taxes, Nutty. They pay sales taxes, excise taxes, gasoline taxes, etc. The only taxes SOME do not now pay is on income.

dumba$$ continues to believe:
"In VA, 26 weeks is the MAXIMUM length of unemployment benefits"

Oddly enough, the Commonwealth seems to disagree:
"Those individuals who established a EUC Tier I claim prior to September 2, 2012 will be eligible to receive their full EUC Tier I entitlement up through December 31, 2013"
http://www.vec.virginia.gov/news/emergency-unemployment-compensation

I find it endlessly amusing that you spent 50 minutes of your day researching VA Unemployment Policies.

"With the change to EUC Tier I effective 9-2-12, this means that Virginia's UI and EUC combined entitlement will be reduced from a maximum of 46 weeks to a maximum of 40 weeks."

Hardly 99 weeks, is it, Dumbass?

"I find it endlessly amusing that you spent 50 minutes of your day researching VA Unemployment Policies"

So says the dumblef*ck who keeps digging up links and refusing to actually read them...

Why not just admit you're an idiot who can't do simple ciphering? Here's a free tip: "years" typically last 52 "weeks" or 365 "days", and the Fed programs have been added to the VA UE plans.

Keep paying those pesos, though, Amigo!

That's not what the VA government website says. If you could read your own link, all would be clear.

Instead, you remain a dumbass.

Here's your link, Dumbass. If you could read it, you'd learn that it throughly refutes your argument.

Where's this supposed link of mine?
