Fatal Accident on I-66
Posted by: Fairfax22032 ()

Does anyone have details beyond what is in the paper regarding the fatal accident early yesterday (Monday) morning on I-66? The story mentions that the driver was 17 years old and my daughter, a senior at Robinson, heard that it was someone that she knows from Chantilly and they were coming home from the Redskins game. Word is that the driver and passenger were both drinking which might explain why they were going the wrong way on I-66.

Yeah he does go to Chantilly, in fact he is (or was) in my economics class. I don't know his last name, but his first name is Kyle. Ironically my econ teacher warns us every Friday not to do stupid **** over the weekend, but apparently Kyle didn't take this advice to heart when he decided to drink and drive.

I'm still stuck on "traveling the wrong way on 66"... even a tanked-drunk person would seemingly have to make a series of improbable moves to wind up in that position.

I've seen that happen more than once in broad daylight at West Falls Church station. That long, curved exit ramp that leads you out of the lot and onto 7 West near the high school. Somehow, some way, people have gotten onto that FROM 7, and driven into the lot. Crazy dangerous, especially because it's a narrow blind curve for about 100 yards.

Dumb drivers know no bounds.

I live a stone's throw from there...that's insane. You would have to do a complete 180 on the *right* side (completely irrational) of 7 and then sharply curve up that ramp. And it's one lane for 500-700 yards, so you are almost guaranteed of running into a car going the other (proper) way with no means of escape besides driving in reverse all the way back. Idiots.

Well, there's a wide sidewalk between the overpass and 7, so maybe you could jump the curb? Still...

doing a u turn and ending up driving on the wrong side of the road, means you were driving on the wrong side of the road to begin with.

By George Mason HS, if you are driving West on 7 in the right lane, you could make a U-turn (180 degrees right, instead of left) onto the entrance ramp from the WFC parking area. It would be stupid and you would have to know that it was illegal, but you could do it.

It's really the craziest thing I've ever seen on FFX roads. I drive that ramp every day and still anxiously shudder when I go up around that jersey-walled blind curve.

I have no idea how they get onto there. One thing I thought was maybe they drove over the curb from that high school parking lot and turned right instead of left.

Anyway, after seeing this happen, I can totally believe someone going on 66 in the wrong direction.

Yeah those two kids are stupid. They were coming back from a Redskins game, drunk, and went on the wrong side of 66. Hit a car, the two women on their way to work, died. And the two drunk kids walk away, one with a broken rib, and the drive is in critical condition. If he lives, he has to go to jail for manslaughter.

Small article in Washington Post today about this accident. The driver, 17, is being charged two counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated DWI manslaughter. Proscecutors want him tried as an adult.

I hope this kid gets the max!! I hope they don't let him get away with killing someone, like they did the Westfield girl who got drunk and killed someone.

no a fender-bender is an accident. Hitting someone in a lane change because you were talking on the fukkin cell phone is a forgivable fuckup. Getting hammered to the point where you don't even know the correct side of the highway to drive on and you kill people is very condemnable.

hey i know the passenger of the car that went the wrong way... they were drunk and comin back from the redskins game and he told me that their GPS said to go on the wrong way on 66 and they were drunk so they followed it but the passenger had a broken collar bone and the driver had a ruptured spleen and liver, collapsed lung and one of his ribs punctured his heart. i also know that the driver tends to drink and drive a lot and that it was gonna happen to him sooner or later

driving drunk is no worse than like driving while asian two days after entering the country.
"i found the mercedes dealership and the DMV now i just need to find costo!!"

you've heard of MADD (mother's against drunk drivers)
i'm starting AAADWNDLTJCTA (American's Against Asian Drivers With New Drivers Licenses That Just Came To America.)

solution: drive with an asian friend for a while. get used to the area.

yeah i knew the driver to, and who ever posted his name on here is a douche, yeah he fucked up but screw you whoever had economics with him how is he supposed to see into his future. i guess u didnt know he actually was even more fucked up last year and was actually back on the right path til this tragedy. so u dont know shit about him. now i agree he made a mistake and if it comes to it he has to pay for it whether it be a short jail sentence or life, whatever he does deserve it cause he made a mistake that killed ppl and though he is truly sorry he has to pay the price. now those who condemn a KID over making this mistake, hell anyone in fact can go screw themselves ppl make mistakes so now someone who was drunk and didnt know what they were doing has to die and go to hell, which mind u he almost did, and for anyone to wish death upon another person just because another person died just wants blood and it shows the savage side of u fags, we dont go on hammurabi code and this eye for an eye bullshit, the kids life is pretty much gonna be prison for the rest of his life now, why dont you faggots go out and use this time to find jobs and do something with your life instead of sitting in your mother's basement ridiculing a kid over his mistakes....not his fault his mom cant drive him everywhere like your's does.

This is a good argument for why the driving age needs to be raised to 18, or at least have temp work and school-only restricted licenses for those under 18.

Sorry dumbass, if he is on the road he has to follow the rules that all the grownups do. And whenever there's a blatant reckless act that kills people you fall back on the "oh he was a kid" bullshit. Fine, I say we should have restricted licenses so the "kids" can't be on the road at night unless they are coming from a job instead of drunk from a party.

The real pussies are those sitting at home on their computers who are too afraid to actually reveal their true identities, yet and still can talk shit about a person they dont even know. he made a mistake and he will pay for it the rest of his life probably through jail time which is what is supposed to happen, yeah i feel sorry for those who died, but also for the driver who made an error, but now he has to pay and while i have sympathy for both sides, i do believe the driver's punishment is necessary. and come on he didnt purposely go out to kill 2 women so stop this bullshit on how u think he should be shot or killed in a more horrific way than the 2 girls were. ppl make mistakes, i'm sure half of u on here a the result of some of those mistakes, but to sit here and portray a kid as if he was a head hunter looking for some helpless ppl to kill, pretty much like a serial killer, is fucking ridiculous, he made a mistake he is getting what he deserves, he didnt purposely try to kill them so no he doesnt deserve to die, but if he gets life that will be acceptable so why dont you ppl stfu.

"He made a mistake" is little penance for the family of the dead. I'm sure you "feeling sorry" for them is going to provide just compensation for their loss however. How trite.
He is a murderer, as is anyone who gets behind the wheel, drunk, and kills someone else as a result of their gross negligence. You are another one of the major pussies on this earth, who can't handle the concept of responsibility.

If you're going to bitch about "true identities," then you shouldn't have any problem providing your name, address, and phone number.

When you drink and decide to get behind the wheel of the car, you are accepting the fact that you are put other innocent lives at danger. Involuntary manslaughter was the charges, which I agree with - not murder.

Let me guess - you're between 16-21 years old yourself?

He DOES deserve to be put down like an "aggressive breed dog," you fucking nancy. He's a menace to society and obviously a lethal threat to the lives of innocent people. He should be executed.

Going the wrong way on a highway ramp might as well be a killing rampage. There is no difference in the regard of human life.

hmmm seeing how i actually agree with him going to jail i dont see your point in getting all riled up, all i said is another person doesnt deserve to die, i mean consecutive life sentences in an adult facility while only being 17 is pretty much the end of your life, and that is exactly what he deserves cause like i keep saying though i think it was a mistake he does deserve to pay...just not in death again yes ppl get drunk and drive and they know before hand what the consequences are but i am sure if a person is drunk enough the last thing on their mind is what could happen if they get in their car, which is sadly why we have accidents like this now i guess killing all the ppl who do this would solve the answers but then again who knows how many pp lget drunk and drive, you would technically only be going after the ones who got in a crash and were caught...doesnt really seem like much of a deterent to those who do it and dont get into accidents or get caught. think before you speak the family who lost their daughters deserves any payment or jail time the kid has to give to them, but killing a person over this is just a bit ridiculous.

They need to be eliminate from society because they have proven themself as a life-threatening hazard to the rest of us by their gross negligence. His living the rest of his life in a TAX-PAYER supported cell, with food and heating every day, This money could be spent elsewhere.
Death would be a very efficient deterrent to drunk driving. Look at other countries, and you'll see this as fact.

And lastly,
Drunk driving is NOT an accident.

This is not going to happen because he is being tried in "Juvenile Court". So he'll probably have to stay for a couple of months until he turns 18 and then they will expunge his record and no one will ever know and he can go on with his life.
