A $5.75 Train Ride: Will You Pay to Ride Silver Line?
Is the price too steep, or will you pay to ride?
http://mclean.patch.com/groups/editors-picks/p/a-575-train-ride-will-you-pay-to-ride-silver-line_bb0682ce

When the Silver Line opens in late 2013 or early 2014, it will provide hundreds of thousands of Virginia residents an easier way to get to and from Washington, DC.

But will people pay the fare to ride it?

Estimates revealed this week show a one-way trip from Tysons Corner station to Metro Center in downtown Washington during peak hours would cost $4.50. The 20-mile ride from the Wiehle Avenue in Reston, roughly 40 minutes, would cost $5.75, the system’s highest fare.

Metro’s costliest trip increased 75 cents in 2012 from $5. And the system, which adjusts fares every other year, could increase rates even more in next year's budget cycle.

While it's sticker shock for some, it's not all that much more than some riders are paying now.

A rider who times his commute after "peak hours" — around 10 a.m. — would pay $2.70 for a one-way trip to Metro Center.

But a trip from Metro Center to Vienna at 5:30 p.m. on a Friday, during the peak hour, costs $5.30, according to WMATA.

If the estimated rates stick, that would mean a cheaper peak ride for Tysons residents currently taking trains from Vienna.

Consider the fee a tax to support the country's laziest, most inept and overpaid mass-transit staff. Metro is riddled with incompetent do-nothings who have never worked a day in their lives. On top of that, their racist anti-white hiring policies ensure nothing will change.

I will reserve my opinion until I hear what Tysons Engineer has to say. He is usually spot on when it comes to these matters.

If I had to go out there yes I'd probably just pay it given how bad traffic is and all the overcompensating losers in their ugly gas guzzlers who can't drive.

But, seriously there are some lazy metro workers. Today there was a metro worker sitting in the outside seat with nobody in the inside seat on the train. An elderly woman boards the train. Everybody assumes well at least he'll move over. People including myself start staring him down. No nothing, lazy won't even move to the other seat so she can sit down.

Apparently you have never driven on 66. It is nothing but hybrids.

Fuck Metro. Adjust your schedule so you go into work early and get out early. Less traffic, less commuting cost (especially if you have free parking) and the comfort of your own car with snacks, music, and a comfy seat instead of being crammed into the NMT - Negro Mobility Trasporter.

Yes. It sucks. But I know when I'll get there, I don't have to use gas, and I can read or work on the way in.

$5.75 is about double my gas cost to get to DC, but I imagine in some cases it would save me more in parking fees in DC.

Are there parking fees at the metro station, and if so, how much are they?

It will probably be $10.00 to go from Ashburn.

I don't think he has posted since his outing. It's too bad, he was annoying but made some good points.

As more companies (including Government) continue to expand work from home policies, this will become a moot point.

New line...... same smelly, worn out, barely operational train cars filled with niggers, spics, and towel heads. And the same lazy, surly, arrogant employees.

I'll drive thank you.
