CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Tina Fey will return to her alma mater, the University of Virginia, to kick off a speaker series highlighting the positive impact of arts on society.
The university announced Wednesday that the "30 Rock" and "Saturday Night Live" star will give the opening address on Sept. 14.
Fey studied playwriting and acting and graduated from the College of Arts & Sciences in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in drama.
U.Va. President Teresa Sullivan says Fey's visit will generate enthusiasm and momentum for the arts at the university and in the local community.

Tina Fey is the kind of alumnus who may be giving money to UVA one day (or even now). The state needs to treat her well as she may be treating them well. She is a great actress even if you don't like her politics. Everyone is allowed to their views and she sure made a great Sara Palin. They sure need some laughs at UVA.

I would wager that Tina Fey is more "middle of the road" than you think when it comes to her personal politics. She makes money doing what she does (impersonation, jokes, etc.). You have to admit that Palin was just the kind of politician that is fun to impersonate (so much material there). It's kind of hard to do Obama or Boehner and many others and have so much fun. There just isn't the material there. Palin was a character (even her family was "different") and geez, it was so much fun to have that 2008 election. Too bad 2012 was soooooo boring. Yawn.
