McLean Stalker Reports Investigated by Police

McLean residents have been sharing information about possible stalkers around and near parks and The Langley Club. Fairfax County Police have investigated and have found no criminal activity.

Buzzing listservs have the McLean community in an uproar over an alleged stalker in and around parks and playgrounds in the town.

Emails and letters circulated among McLean parents – shared with McLean Patch Monday – allege instances where a man believed to be in his 60s with a white beard and a hair and other instances involving two older men in a small car have “stalked” areas frequented by women and children.

Fairfax County Police have investigated the allegations and have found no crimes.

The latest alleged incident on June 14 involved a woman who saw an older man in the McLean Central Park looking at her and a child; they felt uncomfortable and called the police.

Parents and a spokeswoman from the Madeira School – who also sent out a safety advisory email – refused to comment on the incidents.

“A few incidents were reported in McLean but no arrests have been made because no violations of crimes were found,” said police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

At least two instances were mentioned in the flurry of emails and lists serve posts. McLean residents alleged incident involved two girls walking near I-495 to swim practice at The Langley Club on May 28 were approached by two men in a small car who allegedly yelled something that sounded like, "Get in the car." According to the email, the men were older, with white hair, and at least one had longish white hair with a white beard. Police were immediately called, according to the email.

Police urge residents to call if they see anything strange, Caldwell said.

“Trust your instincts about a situation and call the police,” Caldwell said.

Well I'm glad the local police are taking this seriously.

The school even sent out safety memos.

So if I'm reading this correctly, and I like to think I am, an "area frequented by women and children" (PUBLIC PARK) has one or two old geezer farts with white beards sitting around it, causing the trust fund nation to get all in a tizzy. I'm guessing if they rolled up in a Lexus, we wouldn't be reading about this.

What's the crime exactly?

Really? I'm as protective as the next Mom, but an old guy looking at this woman and her kid in a public park does not constitute stalking. Get a grip, people. I'd love to have seen the look on the cop's face when that call came in.
