Local Darwin Awards
Posted by: Charles D. ()
Date: June 23, 2013 12:07PM

2013 Nominees (So Far):

John Malvar - Arlington authorities say on June 4, 18-year-old Malvar was riding his skateboard while hanging on the driver's side window of a vehicle being driven by the 17-year-old. Officials say Malvar fell, hit his head on the road and died hours later at a Washington hospital.

Bennett Rill - a 14-year-old, was electrocuted and three others were injured after they climbed onto a Herndon elementary school roof Tuesday, Fairfax police say.

Jane Wicker - An air show in southwestern Ohio reopened with a moment of silence Sunday, a day after a pilot and wing walker died in a horrifying, fiery crash in front of thousands of spectators.

=====

All avoidable.

FTR, my heart goes out to the family of Jane Wicker. That one was truly a tragedy. The boys listed above proved that they were absolutely too stupid to live. These two cases are simply God's way of thinning the herd.

More nominees?

I would rather have lived and died like those individuals listed then have spent a single minute living as you Charles D. Id call you trash but trash is something that was once useful - you are just a sad waste of space...

condolences to the families...

Stupidity culls the gene pool.

I look to read about sadperson joining the list any day.

Ten million young teens that day didn't climb up on a school roof where they had no business being. When it was wet/raining. Nor did they jump and grab a wire. zzzzzzzttt crispy critter

Go stick your nose in an electric socket, sad.

I knew both Jane Wicker and Charlie Schwenker. Charlie was local as well. They were professionals and great people. It is a risky line of work but they were neither stupid nor foolhardy.

By the way it shouldn't be called Darwinism if the human species is better off having them in the gene pool than removed from it.

Didn't Bennett Rill die trying to help another kid?

The news is too ambiguous and wrong to know (nee - the original story says they were climbing onto a temporary roof however the shed and fence also mentioned are next to the main school roof, not a temp - more recent articles say they were climbing onto the main roof) - we've been told that one kid fell and the deceased was doing SOMETHING w.r.t. him, probably just climbing DOWN real fast toward him. Is that "trying to help another kid"? Sounds pretty heroic but may not reflect reality much.

Just another unfortunate death of a kid doing things kids do that sometimes go wrong badly.

As stated in my OP, this is the one which really is
a tragedy. My deepest sympathies to both families on
their loss. I don't believe they were stupid by any
measure, but I would characterize them as foolhardy.
Flying an airplane in such a manner is not safe.
Hanging onto one while it is being flown like this is
not a safe activity either. I'm sure both knew the
risks involved, but this time they lost. But we can
console ourselves saying they died what they enjoyed
doing, as risky as it was.

I have ZERO sympathy for the other candidates, and
probably won't have any for upcoming candidates - the
year is only half over...

I knew little people in high school.

They would sit and observe, and make smug little man comment on others who did risky stuff...crazy stuff, wild stuff, played sports, etc.

They wre jealous little f'ers just waiting to pounce when something went wrong, which, of course, sometimes it did.

Those little people went on to do nothing with their lives.

The risk takers for the most part became the big achievers.

That's the way it works.

Always has, always will.

That happened in 2003, and you can pull it up in less than a minute?

It is that burned into your memory?

Did I know you in high school?

Ok, but when one of the vaunted risk takers offs himself in a particularly stupendous way, why are you criticizing when some of us respond in ways ranging from a shake of the head all the way up to a hearty chuckle?

Because I know plenty of people that did "crazy" stuff on skateboards, and did "crazy" things like climbed on school roofs when they were growing up who went on to be very productive citizens.

It's just about being a kid.

And I remember plenty of dorks who were afraid to do things, however, the thrill they got was to stand in the corner waiting for people to f'up so they could "shake their head or laugh a hearty chuckle".

Those were the losers, who married the ugly women, (if they did marry), and had loser children.

That is true Darwinism in action.

There's a fine line between being daring and being stupid. Stupid usually overcomes the daring at some point.

And now those "geeks" are successful, marry good looking
women who want a good lifestyle, and send their children
to private schools. The jocks are working for them (if
they're working at all or are hoping for an extension to
unemployment), married to now-fat women, and their kids are
electrocuting themselves on trailers at the local public
schools.

You're right... Darwin at work!

Unfortunately Stupidity is winning the battle against Darwin. Basically it is a less dramatic version of Idiocracy. Look at the most overcrowded backwards fucked up retard nations. They spew babies out at an unprecedented level. Fortunately there is only so much food to go around.

More candidates:

Drug Dealer Habeeb Raza

Jihadist Loser Hazmat Raza

And this unnamed contestant (How did I know there was a trailer in this story somewhere):

The victim of an explosion in Dinwiddie County had been making fireworks, said deputy county fire marshal Nick Sheffield.

The man was making fireworks Sunday morning in a trailer when the explosion occurred, Sheffield said. He was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he died later that day.

The victim's name hasn't been released. No other injuries were reported.

Dinwiddie County Fire and EMS chief Dennis Hale said there was a large quantity of fireworks-making material in the trailer.

It's illegal in Dinwiddie County to manufacture, possess or sell fireworks.
