What was all the fuss about? 15 minutes of moderate rain? And the feds got a work-from-home day out of it? Jesus Christ! My DirecTV didn't even go out!

Here in Burke, it got a little windy for a few minutes, then rained. No biggie. The government folks I know all had to work today, business as usual.

It's true........."The federal government told workers in the Washington area that they could work from home or take the day off Thursday to avoid potentially powerful thunderstorms that were predicted to arrive in the morning and the late afternoon"

Shock weather! In a few hours the news will move onto something else real quick. Last year half these fuckers never knew what a derecho storm was now they are using the term to get ratings. They just reported a whopping gust of 20mph. Get in the shelter.

The government is not closed but people did have the option to use a vacation day or telework.

If you think telework is a scam, and it is for some people, contact your elected official because they're the one who are forcing it on the departments.

The fed government isn't closed nitwits.

In the fed, you can't always just up & take leave for the hell of it. You are supposed to schedule your leave, just like you have scheduled days for telework.

The announcement today just said people were able to take unscheduled leave or do unscheduled telework today if needed.

If the fed gov closes, you have the day off and you aren't charged leave. However, with this announcement the gov is not closed and you would be charged leave if you take the day off.

Its a formality to say "you can take leave today if you need too and your manager can't DENY it".

I do NOT think telework is a scam. Well maybe it is for some but not all. My wife does it for the company she works for. She ends up spending more time working while home then she would if she went to the office. I think its a scam for the company because they buy her a laptop and pay for her internet. She works more hours at home then she would at the office. The company does not have to pay for office space for her or other expenses.

You people aren't thinking. If the government workers leave early today, that means less commuters out when the rest of us go home. And the storm's supposed to hit right around evening rush hour, so you know it's going to be a fucking nightmare getting home. I say the less people on the road, the better.

The BS part is the determination of "need" vs. "want"

There's no "need" to be home today but the non-existent
storm will sure as hell generate a lot of "want".

My wife telecommutes also a few days a week also and puts in
more hours at home than she does when in the office. She's
a contractor though, so there's not the job-for-life-you-
cant-fire-me mentality of govvies.

Me? I'm on a vacation day watching our daughter until
summer camp starts on Monday.

One part of the weather system swirled through, more of the same system to come:

http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/?lat=38.85105896&lon=-77.46225739&zoom=8&pin=Centreville%2c%20VA&rad=1&wxsn=0&svr=0&cams=0&sat=0&riv=0&mm=0&hur=0

Looks like multiple "storms" associated with what's heading our way.

"What was all the fuss about? 15 minutes of moderate rain?"

Yeah, pretty much. Weather "forecasting" has become more & more of a song & dance routine, with "meteorological" degrees handed out to doofuses (doofi?) who never took a serious science class (look up the course catalogs for some of the WaPo "weather blog experts" - some numbnuts couldn't calculate their way out of a wet sack).

"heading our way" has to cross West Virginia. It'll break up with the coal dust & cig smoke...

Well, that would be almost every day of the summer between now and October!

Round two should be here in another hour to two.

Doesn't look too bad on radar now but once it clears the mountains and as the afternoon warms up all of that starts to change.

Lol!

I've been sitting outside the last hour watching the weather and feeding the chipmunk, waiting for the "next round". It came in, darkening everything, nothing to write home about, then WHAM!, massive rain, minor wind, gone.

Came back inside and find that, during my sit outside, a Tornado Warning had come and gone...

Based on current radar, we may get one more quilie before beeyooteeful weather slips in.
