The Thursday Power Outage Lottery For Northern Virginia
Posted by: Power Man ()

Guess the number of power outages in Northern Virginia at midnight on Thursday.

All guesses must be posted by midnight tonight (Wednesday).

I'm going with 47,000.

We will be using this page to establish the official number of outages.

https://www.dom.com/storm-center/dominion-electric-outage-summary.jsp

There are currently 836,314 customers with power. 116 right now without power.

Quadruple it for PEPCO customers as well as the restoration time. Just another thing that sucks about Md.

Then we should also include City of Manassas and Rappahanock since the Dominion map goes to their service territory?

Every Pepco customer will loose power and then bitch about how the trees are too dense around the above ground power lines. Pepco will then suggest tree trimming to which the same customers will bitch about the tree trimming. If burying the power lines is suggested the same customers will bitch about the cost and expect someone else to pay for it.

Shock weather is at it again. I know most of you are suckers but try not to be so stupid and feed into the fear. They are just saying their is a risk factor of one happening not one is in the making.

I'm going for over 200,000 in Northern VA, Maryland, and DC combined. The kicker is it won't be restored for 2-3 weeks. That's because these companies really have put that much towards infrastructure.

It dosen't matter what type of storm hits Maryland - Montgomery County to be exact. Big expensive homes with wonderful old trees - The storm hits, and the falling limbs tear down the power lines. I have my home in Northern Virginia, and I invested in a 6K Honda generator. My power goes out and my food stay fresh, my beer stays cold, and my wife keeps her ass clean.

By now you’ve probably heard about the potential for severe weather tonight and tomorrow. While we think the odds of a derecho as severe as the one we saw a year ago are low here in the D.C. area, there is a legitimate chance that at least parts of the area will see one or more rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms roll through from west to east (or northwest to southeast) between late tonight and Thursday evening.

Radar & lightning: Latest regional radar shows movement of precipitation and lightning strikes over past two hours. Refresh page to update. Click here or on image to enlarge. Or see radar bigger on our Weather Wall.

Round 1: Storms now firing in eastern Ohio, southwest Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia (see Midwest radar) may be the beginning of stuff headed our way. The most likely timing for the first round is tonight between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., though thunderstorm timing is notoriously hard to pin down. Heavy rain and dangerous lightning are the main threat with this round, though strong winds are possible as well. But storms are not a sure bet, and they could end up isolated or scattered rather than a solid line.

Round 2: The most likely timing for the second round is between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. (but again, timing thunderstorms is very difficult). Storms are a better bet for everyone with this round, though there are no guarantees, and they could easily be severe with damaging winds in addition to flooding rain and dangerous lightning.

Since when did people start treating thunderstorms like a motherfucking Cat 7 hurricane is bearing down on them?

What next? Are you media assholes going to start naming Summer rain storms? This is getting regoddamnediculous.

"...not a sure bet"
"...no guarantees"

Not very convincing to me.

Not only have widespread power outages not occurred. Seems now we actually have more people with power than last night.

Last night at 7pm - 116 customers without power
Today at 12:45 - 38 customers without power

The storm has helped restore power, not cause outages. lol
