Aneesh Chopra and NSA spying. Vote onTuesday
Posted by: NoSuchAgency ()
Date: June 08, 2013 06:50AM

Virginians have a Democratic primary this Tuesday June 11. Republicans and any registered voter may vote. Running for Lt Gov are Aneesh Chopra, former White House Chief Technology Officer under President Obama, and State Senator Ralph Northam, a pediatric neurologist from the Norfolk area. All these recent revelations about the NSA spying on Americans and intercepting our phone and internata data have me wondering. How much of a role, if any, did Aneesh Chopra play in that while he was White House CTO? Why did he leave the White House? I want a real expalantion, not the old canard "I'm going to run for office in a year and half." Has he had a paying job since then? How much did he know about the spying? Chopra says he's going to use technology to improve the lot of the middle class in Virginia. Does that mean spying on us? My Democratic friends are split on the candidates but some of my Republican friends are going to cross over to vote in the Dem primary just to vote against Chopra. Do people on this forum vote? What do you think?

Wasn't his sister or cousin the chick who ran down people on the W&O trail? How can you be so drunk that you drive down a bike trail in Vienna?

Unless the VA Senate has a 20/20 split, the Lt. Gov job does nothing so it doesn't matter anyway.

Wasn't Chopra the CTO for DC before Obama hired him? And wasn't the massive billing fraud on tech contracts in DC his responsibility? And now he wants to screw over Virginia too? Fuck him!

Just to answer some of the questions here:

The Virginia Senate does have a 20-20 split. The next state senate election is in 2015. Until then, the lieutenant governor has the deciding vote on just about anything where the two parties disagree.

Chopra is a common last name, like Smith. There is no connection between the woman who ran her car onto a bike trail, whose last name is Chopra, and the Democratic primary candidate Aneesh Chopra.

Chopra was never the CTO for Washington, DC. That was someone else. Instead, Chopra was the CTO for the state of Virginia under Governor Tim Kaine and was very successful.

Chopra was also the first ever federal CTO, pioneering the position, and was very successful in that role as well. Look at any of the news stories around the time he stepped down for an assessment.

Obviously, the NSA program was a top-secret program run by the NSA at Fort Meade, not an openly recognized government efficency and modernization program run by named, public admin managers at the White House. Only someone with no knowledge of computers or government would confuse the CTO of the federal government with the classified workers at NSA working on this Prism project.

Here's a straight answer: he's a fricking Injun. They rape little girls in India all day, every day. Plus, they smell bad, eat crap for food and can't drive or manage to keep out of the way at Costco. Screw him. I'm going with the baby killer instead.

We should just elect a self-proclaimed tyrant. At least we'd know where we stood. All of this constitutional futzing around of Obama, Bulova, and the rest is just lies piled upon lies.

Both Hitler and Khrushchev made the trains run on time. Hell, nothing even works properly here.

Oh no! That's one vote for the Injun. This is Virginia dumbass. No Injun is going to win in a democrat or republican primary. Not enough of them. The baby killer's gonna win. The Injun has a funny sounding name.

Way to go from the conservative idiots on this board once again proving why we have to keep you idiots from taking power.

You accuse a candidate of being related to a drunk driver, which you could not be more wrong about.

You are racist bigots

You accuse him on spying on people

Whatever cry babies. Suck our dicks and enjoy losing every election till you get fed up and move to your conservative utopia of Pakistan, where people who are different can be lynched all you want.

I remember the same stuff being said from the libbies 4 years ago. Then McDonnell wins by 19 and Cuccinelli by 18. We'll see.

Bullshit. Only someone who doesn't know what the CTO of the government is would make an idiotic statement like yours.

Did you know that the CTO is also the Associate Director of OSTP?

Further, do you know that one of the divisions within OSTP is the National Security and International Affairs division?

http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/ostp/divisions/natsecintaff

One of the functions of tha division is: Intelligence Capabilities: Apply S&T to help address the Nation’s most pressing intelligence challenges.

Are you contending Prism would not fall under this function?

You'll have to show us where it says that the CTO is the AD of the OSTP, I don't see that anywhere in the links you provided. Anyway, even if so then CTO > OSTP > NSIA > Intelligence Capabilities > Prism would be pretty far down in the chain, and it is highly unlikely that the CTO himself would carry out any direct tasks for a specific program like that. That is, even if you wear a tinfoil hat and think you're so important that the NSA is gathering intelligence on your porn browsing.

Not necessarily, particularly if you know how the NSTC is set up and how OSTP manages that function.

Perhaps not direct tasks, but it is plausible he was aware of the program and its capabilities. OSTP is a high level policy coordinator of government technology capabilities including intelligence activities.

If I did, would I post here?

It is a legitimate question. There are a few former CIA folks at OSTP.

You don't have to be an ass just because you're anonymous. Don't expect me to Google every claim you make; you have to do the footwork yourself if you want to convince.

Anyway, http://www.whitehouse.gov/cto lists the CTO but doesn't explain his position within OSTP. It doesn't say that he's the AD.

Nevertheless, all I'm registering is a so what to the notion that Aneesh Chopra may have known about an NSA operation that was warranted and briefed to Congress. All these "scandals" have done little to show anything except that the federal agencies are diligently doing the jobs we have asked them to do.

But anyway,

I never asked them to keep a record of my call logs or geolocation information. In fact, I support Sen. Ron Wyden's legislation on geolocation information.

Indian CTO/CEOs are all useless bullshitters. All talk, zero work and they all try to sell the company the first chance they get, because deep down they know they are useless and have no real skill other than bullshitting. If Indians actually knew what they were doing, India wouldn't be do fucked up. Yeah, yeah, keep blaming the Britishers asswipe. What the British left India was awesome. It's only because useless Indians suck around the British legacy.

Now that wasn't so hard, was it? So thanks for the proper link, and settled: Aneesh Chopra was Associate Director of Technology for OSTP.

I still don't understand why you think he should be faulted for doing his job. You'll have to explain yourself better next time.

It only took you two days to figure that out while the rest of the world picked up on it pretty quick.

I want a Lt. Governor that cares about privacy rights and other civil liberties. You contend that Congress was briefed. Plenty of them were not briefed as evidenced by their concern. The author of the PATRIOT Act indicated that the law was being misused.

Anyway, at least you are abandoning the losing argument that he would not have information on the program.

Obama in his radio address from April 2009:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/09/04/18/Weekly-Address-Efficiency-and-Innovation

"Aneesh and Jeffrey will work closely with our Chief Information Officer, Vivek Kundra, who is responsible for setting technology policy across the government, and using technology to improve security."

Perhaps, Chopra was "just doing his job" but as a candidate for statewide office, he should tell the voters what his role was in relation to tracking the phone calls of innocent citizens of the state and the country. For someone that was in charge of transparency, he isn't being very transparent, now is he?

Oh, I get it now. The same Aneesh Chopra that was CTO of VA at the time VA purchased SAP and wasted $43 Million. Now, I know what you are going to say, Aneesh was gone by the time SAP was implemented. As CTO, your responsibilities would include evaluating technology, establishing the roadmap for implementation and ultimately procuring SAP. Now this isn't the first a CTO has failed to understand the limitations and difficulties of implementing a product such as SAP. It appears that Aneesh was smart enough to move on before things hit the ceiling. The procurement was under his watch and therefore, the fallout is the responsibility of the person that procured said tool.

The democrats should have nominated an real Asian. There's enough of them in VA to get one elected (NoVa and Tidewater area). The Injun will have no chance if nominated. Best to pick the baby killer. A white baby killer would be a much tougher opponent for the Cooch ticket than the Injun.

This had to be a tough one for the Libtards: baby killer or visible minority. Kind of like their choice back in 08: first woman president or first black president, well, half black at least.

Terry McAuliffe got the nomination solely because of the money he brings to the race. The consultants hired by the Dems salivated over their big payday.

Chopra lost because he tried to hang on to coattails like Connolly and Moran. Outside their districts, they are widely viewed as idiots.

Chopra's mistakes in the tech world played no role in the primary. Look for him to be appointed somewhere real soon.

It's not just OUTSIDE their districts that they are viewed as idiots. Some of us in their districts already knew this to be a fact.
