Five Guys scaling back

The Five Guys at the Fox Mill Shopping Center in Reston/Herndon is closing June 16th. I was picking up dinner and noticed the permanent closing sign.

Just sees the writing on the wall--economic circumstances can't support alot of luxury purchases. Get ready for the collapse, since our entire economy is built now on luxury (ie. on credit) purchases.

Whoa! Didn't O'bummer tell us the recession was over back in 2009 and we're already in recovery? I thought that"s why all the fucktard libs voted for him again, not because they're mindless drones.

Wendy's really isn't much cheaper at all. Maybe two bucks. I'm also not sure why you consider cheeseburgers luxury items

Lack of a drive-thru window has to hurt their business unless they concentrate on high-density developments.

Their burgers are good, but their fries are always soggy from so much grease, at least at the one by me.

Shitty location. Only people that really know about that shopping center and use it are the soccer moms that live around it in the mini-McMansions. No significant workplaces, condos, apartment bldgs or townhouses nearby. The 5 Guys in Hybla Valley does fine and that's no boom economy there.

that location used to be a McD's...its not about the economy

they are upgrading the facade in that shopping center my bet is they are raising the rental rates and which changes the profit point

there are five guys everywhere and expanding nationwide...you see them in airports and other cities now.

So I was in Burlington, Vermont about a year ago (yeah, I know, just kill me now) and while catching a bit of local news there was great fanfare about a Five Guys opening up there.

People were just giddy about it, EXCEPT...the usual fucktard liberals who didn't want another chain and preferred their restaurants serving overpriced, organic, fair trade, free range, cruelty-free, gluten-free food that's locally sourced from farming cooperatives using environmentally just practices and paying their employees, from the Global South, a living wage.

There was one on Rt 1 in Hoodbridge that's gone now. I think they were only selling to the illegals that hung out at the 7-11 across the street. Everyone else was afraid to get out of their car at that location.

Five Guys is horribly overrated: it's just greasy as fuck cheeseburgers with greasy as fuck fries. Nothing special or anything that a fast food joint hasn't already done.

Yeah, that location used to be a McDonald's so it has absolutely nothing to do with the economy. But does anyone know what is going to replace it? Also, does anyone else think the renovations they made on the shopping center make it look really cheap?

I always found 5guys way too greasy. Greasy undercooked fries and the burgers were disgusting. Buns were good though.

I stopped going, because I have to listen to white people bitch about how bad their lives are. That's the point of a drive-thru so I don't have to interact with you crackers.

PS: I am not racist, I love the white female crackers. Lolz

Five Guys is good...blah blah about the grease and shyt, its a damn burger. Multiple reasons it's scaling back, people don't want to eat that much grease all the time, takes too long to cook, other comparable burger joints opening up, counter burger, fosters to name 2. BRB in RTC sucks. I don't eat burgers very often might be once a month thing at best for me. Main reason is people are going healthy and flocking to typical chipotle and Potbelly.

Someone MUST bring back Burger Chef!

For that matter, someone MUST bring back the original McDonalds fries. McD's fries and Burger Chef hamburgers - heaven!

Wendys beats 5 guy for burger quality but 5 guy wins in the topping department.

Wendys advertised burger vs. Wendys reality burger.

Nope, Wendy's burgers taste like liver and dirty dotheads have touched everything before you get it. It's never hot enough to kill enough of the bugs. At least 5 Guys is decently cooked and still hot when you get the order despite what works there. I ask for jalapenos every time to be safe--but I'd prefer hotter. Can't get that at Wendy's.

yea no doubt .. there were two of them in Herndon.. now 0? makes no sense to me.. seemed pretty busy the two times I happened to be stop by in the last 4-5 years. a guy in woodbridge at five guys told me they were trying to basically unsaturate the market.. seems like a fail to me

Before they closed I asked on of the guys why they were closing and he said that the landlord was raising rent due to the renovation of Fox Mill Shopping Center.

Incidentally, I ate at the Five Guys in Reston at Plaza America on Sunday afternoon and it was the worst burger I've had from them. They've always been my favorite. First they messed up my order and had to make me another burger. The tomatoes were hard and cold, and the grilled onions weren't cooked very much. My guess is that they had been busier than usual due to the Fox Mill closure resulting in worse than usual quality.

Five Guys used to be my favorite but now I feel they are so drippy and greasy and the bag of fries is so greasy that its not really very tasty. I think I like Elevation Burger better.

The burgers are okay, but the fries have always sucked: so greasy and limp. Such a shame, too, because they take pride in saying they make their own. Maybe they should just buy them from McDonalds and be done with it. I don't care what people say about McD's (not a big fan myself) their fries are consistently hot, not greasy, and taste good, IMO.

I actually like their fries except they are too greasy. You can get the same fries but better at Hard Times Cafe. I think leading the skins on and using fresh potatoes makes all the difference.

So a franchise company makes poor business decisions and over expands and it's the government's fault because... why? Capitalism isn't for pussies. I recommend that the Obama-blamers stay in the basement where it's safe.
