Woodson HS = NO discipline
Posted by: Eyes opened now ()
Date: May 23, 2013 06:41PM

I am a Woodson parent and was at the school this week between approximately 1000am and 1110am. After all the hype lately, I expected to see teachers and administrators and security personnel roaming the halls on the look out. Shockingly, what I saw instead was: large groups of kids eating lunch on benches everywhere and anywhere in the school, leaving trash around and listening to music, watching videos etc. It was a little intimidating to walk pass some of these large groups. There was trash everywhere. Don't they have to eat in the cafeteria? Many students were simply roaming the halls. Don't they have to be in class or somewhere? Where they all skipping? I saw NO ADULT supervision anywhere. Why? When I was leaving there were many students in the parking lots and some were going across the street to Fair City Mall during the school day. When I asked my child about it, they said "Almost nobody cares what we do, even if we are in class." WHAT? What am I paying my taxes for? Maybe this is what is the problem with Woodson.

That's pretty crazy. Sounds like some bad 80's movie. Haha. I went to FHS in the 90s and you definitely wouldn't be out in the hallways during class times without a hall pass or something.

It was probably one of those glorified "recess" periods they have all over the county now. They give the kids 30 min to screw around in the hope that some of them will make up tests or finish their homework. I'm sure 90% of the drug deals that happen in FCPS schools happen during this period

Isnt school almost over for the year? Good luck getting the slackers to follow any rules at this point. The teachers have probably given up.

I am surprised they are back to school so soon.

This post describes all the destruction damage that was caused by that awful twister tornado that hit Woodson HS.

there's something people do and its called eating. It is a necessity for human beings and animals to live bc that's where we get our nutrients to grow big and strong. Adults might have something called a lunch break well this is our lunch break. We refer to it as Lunch. That's what kids do in the halls. I bet ur kids don't clean up half the time at home, well half the times people don't clean up at schools. There's also another thing called Academy. Academy is where students go to different schools for a period to learn a subject not taught at Woodson. Those students drive and one of the waves comes in during lunch so a group is coming and leaving then.Yes i'm sure some kids go to fair city, but a majority of them have permission to be leaving school grounds. Now u just sound like a little girl You pay taxes because your a us citizen, and its your civic responsibility.

Well they can eat lunch where they want as long as they don't abuse the right. If you had a student going there they could tell you that. The OP is so out of touch!

I'm pleased that the school sounds like it is preparing students for a more college-like setting. The OP evidently didn't observe rowdy or inappropriate behavior, and to me that proves that the students entrusted with some freedom of movement during their lunch period are not abusing the privilege.

I'm conflicted about what the OP's post reveals. On one hand, it makes me admire the school leader(s); on the other, it makes me pity them and dread that my children may some day go to school with at least one peer whose parent is a parochial, passive-aggressive busybody who would rather smear his or her child's educators on a public message board than simply share concerns one-on-one with them.

I am so glad I don't work in a school in this era of anonymous online critics! My employer and other business and nonprofit organizations face similar social media challenges with an occasional disgruntled customer or stakeholder, but at least typical complaints aren't petty and might be addressed through follow-up. As a taxpayer, I don't ever want to see schools feel pressured to hire a bunch of pr staff to respond to online complainers. Let's let educators focus on education; if we as parents have concerns, how about we use the courteous and more effective strategy of just talking to people directly?

Come on, those kids are just bursting with school spirit. They can't wait for those upwardly mobile careers at Cutco, Vector Marketing, and, of course, Primerica.

Future Woodson parent...
If your child hangs out with the right crowd he or she will be fine. Party some but be smart about ur actions and he/she will be fine and successful in life both at Woodson and after. Although woodson has some bad teachers (Lance Becker, Gargulo,Bianchi-dumb ass lifting teacher/football coach,Card(for AP's) and others) ... most are pretty good esp the history teachers.D.I.F.L and Huddie.
-Watch out it seems like our school has something for seniors hooking up with freshmen.. make sure she packs appropriately hahahaha jk. don't worry your kid will be fine.

In all seriousness: Do your work, Have fun, Remember school isn't everything so have fun and relieve that stress/depressing thoughts, study hard and hang out with the right crowd and if u do this you and your child will be happy with the result of their education and experiences Woodson gave them..

I was just scaring u a little.. It will be a good experience

You Millennials make me laugh with your easy confidence. (Oddly, my sense of humor disappears though when I imagine any kid trying to "hook up" with one of my daughters before they graduate from college.)

What you predict to be true about the importance of balance (e.g., between hard work and recreation/reflection/rest) to a fulfilling life I've actually experienced for a few more decades. As someone with advanced degrees from two prestigious US universities and a rewarding career in which I feel self-actualized and am relatively well-remunerated, I can advise you to maintain your optimism and your work ethic--and try to resist the temptations of a hypersexualized, consumeristic, and no-nothing pop culture. Be true to your most cerebral and altruistic self, and you will come to appreciate truth and beauty and sow justice and peace.

I hope this lady changes her tampon. As you well know we are taking SOL This week and so after Sol is chill day. We don't need to worry about other staff. Don't worry about what we are doing. its good to know that your son was not doing anything bad. And just remember we have a good test scores so we do learn in our classes. Just to let you know I got a 500 in World History 1 Sol. and 430 on Biology

What you saw is nothing unusual, you could pop in most any afternoon and see that or worse at most any high school. The relaxed atmosphere currently in many Fx Co high schools is the norm. The only thing that surprises me is you didn't hear a constant barrage of profanity and groups of male students looking at porn on their smart phones.

Your parents sure raised a real winner. Clean up after yourself you filthy lazy animal. Oh and thanks for telling us adults about adulthood..something you clearly know nothing about.
