Why are so many Arabic, Indians and to a lesser degree, Asians buying up all the new homes in some of the most exclusive locations in Fairfax County? Where do they get all this $$ from? Driving around, I don't see too many cars in the driveways, etc so these are not your "multi family" deals..

They work OT and have second and third jobs.

They will tough it out and rent rooms or share housing temporarily to cut costs.

They will drive older POS cars instead of financing a new car.

It's not just "exclusive" locations. I was an original buyer in my area in Chantilly. At LEAST a solid third of the homes are bought by Indians and Asians.

I personally don't have a problem with it.

They save and pool their money (their families are usually larger) and work hard. They don't spend money on that Mercedes they gotta have or all the other "junk" we buy. Buying a home is a priority and that's where they spend.

Don't buy a new car every five years or a new iphone everytime it comes out and all the other things we think is necessary and you too can have money to buy big ticket items. It's just simple budgeting.

As a son of Indian immigrants I would say that most of the comments are true. But its generational - the 2nd and 3rd generations are just as casual with their spending as any other group.
For many Asian cultures a new home is a status symbol.
I on the other hand live in a 45 year old split level home and drive a 10 year POS Honda Accord

I live in a van down by the river!!!

Because they live like this in their homeland. They compensate by buying the biggest new house they can.

Well...the rugged independance of the more traditional American pushes kids out of the home and into jobs or rent or mortgages at a young age.That used to be to grow your own family and start your own farm, build a house etc...now a days most Americans just fall for the commercialism and buy and sell culture we are sold from day 1. New Car , new huge tv..new nice phone...new botox..

Also, I know some of these families who buy a big house then crowd up the whole street with cars because they rent out the entire place to their extended family. Forget a guest room, every single room probably has a set of double beds in it..no privacy and they never use their AC. Talk about cheap...oh and stop putting gawdy gold lions, falcoms and assorted weird statues on your lawn and on your roof etc its very un American of you.

I think the original poster indicated the people are not combining families and associated incomes to purchase the biggest home on the block. The homes looks nice, well landscaped, with not too many cars...

My beef is when they buy a home in a neighborhood of 1,800 sq ft split levels. They then tear the home down and put up a three level McMansion with 5,000 sq ft and no grass or trees left. Freaking eyesore. That is when I am glad I live in a HOA that wont allow this crap.

I don't know where you work buddy but, I don't get this feeling at all. Are there more non-whites here now than their were 30 years ago? Yes. Are we whites all working FOR them? No. Are they "running things"? No. Do they work jobs that whites don't want? Yes.

I work at one of the GSEs. At my firm, at the current team, we have 12
people, 10 are Indian and 8 are h1b, hired in last 4 years. What are the
odds of having 12 IT team members with 10 Indian?? No African Americans,
no Hispanics, No Europeans. These are good jobs too. That is my current
personal experience, and within our IT group of 180 people, approximately
120 are Indian. Not sure H1B status but large percentage. Any reporter
could get listing of the IT employees. Take a look at the names, while it
is a generalization Indian names are very different than US names.

And now the Indians in the GSEs are hiring more Indians, that is not a
generalization, our company recently hired a diversity vp, who of course was
Indian, Subha Barry holds a B.A. in Accounting, Mathematics & Economics
from Bombay University. No surprise there.

We have openings, mostly contractor, but some full time, and all the
resumes we get are h1b's. We have limits on salaries/rates so we are only
looking at bottom of the bucket. Of course we have been firing the us
citizens over the past 4 years and replacing them with cheaper workers.
The developers from India are flooding the market, and the rates are half
that of local developers, 50,000 to 60,000 for java developers with 6 to
10 years experience. Same developers on government contracts in area make
80,000 to 110,000. The rates for h1b's have requirement to pay prevailing
wages, which is just not enforced. These developers are willing to have
their kids back in India with their parents, while they work in US, and
they will do this for 6 years, desperate to keep their job, just so they
have the opportunity to stay in US and get out of India.

And to make it worse, this is being supported by YOUR TAX DOLLARS people.
The GSE's have been bailed out and continue to be supported by the federal
government while the companies send your tax dollars back to India. It
makes no sense to hire workers from India to come to US to work on US
mortgage industry software, paid for by US taxpayer money. While H1B's
are cheaper, the time to build is longer, and the software is worse. For
GSE's, that doesn't matter since the companies are supported by US tax
dollars and there is no price competition, so the cycle continues.

The current state of manufacturing in the US is the future of IT unless we
start taking care of our own US citizens first. And be careful about what
you read form the Bill Gate's about H1B visas, H1B visas are good for
capital/owners, damn good, but they are not good for labor. And there are
many more workers in the US than Bill Gates.

I'm over $1,000,000 in debt, but have over $4,000,000 in assets. Depending on your situation buying with cash is not always the best way to go. That goes for primary homes or investment properties. Why buy 1 house with cash when I could buy 3 and finance them with the low interest rates we have today? Add to that the tax deductions you get and the real interest rate is even less.

If you're not a property investor you can do a lot of other things instead of having all your money tied up in your primary home.
