Our Tax dollars at work FCPD

Fairfax County police officers are saying farewell to their old cruisers as the department purchases 127 Ford Police Interceptor sedans and sport utility vehicles in FY2013.

Retired Lieutenant Chalrie Bond — who is now the director of the logistics and property division for the department — said FCPD has 1,500 vehicles — 762 which are assigned to eight stations.

The current cruisers are large four-door vehicles with a V8 engine and upgraded brakes and alternators. Initially, the current modeled used by the department had fuel tanks susceptible to rear impact and fire. However, Ford corrected that error.

Before deciding to go with the 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Sedans and Utility models, the vehicles went through the FCPD cruiser evaluation, Bond said. The Dodge Chargers and Chevy Capris were also being considered. However, the Ford models scored very high in evaluations. Some of the criteria for the FCPD cruiser evaluation include safety, mileage per gallon and cost.

Safety features on the new cruiser include:

75 mph rear crash tested
structural integrity
personal safety system
level III ballistic door panels
safety canopy system
side airbags
The new cruisers also went through the Ford courses evaluations and a defensive driving course. The vehicles were voted the best overall in handling and braking and driving in inclement weather, Bond said at a citizen meeting last week.

According to information provided by Bond during his presentation, the total costs for the new vehicles are:

2013 Ford Police Interceptors Sedans (marked) - $40,148.21
2013 Ford Police Interceptors Sedans (unmarked) - $37,321.64
2013 Ford Police Interceptors Utilities (marked) - $43,020.06
2013 Ford Police Interceptors Utilities (unmarked) - $40,867.06
The department has ordered 119 sedans and eight utilities. Each of the stations will get one 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicle. Bond said hopefully all FCPD vehicles will be replaced by 2015 as the department swaps them out one by one as needed. The old cruisers will be auctioned off when replaced.

WHY? Where can we vote NO?????????????????????????????????????

How would you propose the cops get around the county other than in a car? Want them in Smart Cars?

The same one they are using right now. I have a 2000 cavalier and I am happy with it.

I wouldnt have been happy with a 2000 Cavalier in the year 2000!

Cops cars wear out bro. And much faster than your family car. They average about 40-50k miles a year.

You're an idiot. These cars get A LOT of wear and tear. There comes a point where the maintenance costs are astronomical and it makes more fiscal sense to replace out the vehicle.

These cars are driven 24 hours a day, the same car is typically shared between 2-3 officers on various shifts.

I suggest you do a ride-a-long with the county to see how much abuse these cars get on a daily basis. You'd be surprised at how many gravel roads, dirt roads, driving up on curbs, abrupt you turns, sudden stops, hard acceleration, etc. these things get on a regular basis. I'm personally amazed they last as long as they do now.

And they put Amanda Perry into a paid administrative job while they investigated how her reckless driving resulted in the result of a teacher.

The only reason Perry left FCPD is because they caught her falsifying her timesheets on the administrative job.

Now that's a waste of money. Just like how they kept the former Taliban spy on payroll while they investigated him.

Is Japan broke?

Didn't think so. Another publicity stunt from Sharon Bulova and friends.

What did Japan do when we had the derecho storm. Nothing!

Well, at least FCPS doesn't waste money on new vehicles. They keep school buses until they are 18 years old. Much cheaper to keep patching them up with duct tape and baling wire. The best contract in Fairfax County is bus towing.

A few weeks ago, I was on 66 and saw bus on fire with the kids standing on the shoulder of the road! On fucking I-66! They should not be allowed to drive those clunkers on Interstate highways or other high spead roads!

The new cop cars are uni-bodies. Not built on frames like the old crown vic. The crown vics were repairable in most crash situations but the interceptor will be junked after a crash more often than not.
Even if a crown vic had a frame that needed to be straightened we could get it done and the car could be painted and put into some other county use such as building inspection or whatever. The interceptors will be going to the salvage yard after a crash and our boys crash them a lot!
Sadly Ford stopped making the vic even though like 70% of the cop cars and taxi's in this country were crown vics or the mercury clone of it.

Maybe we could take the old police cars and give them to those on welfare. They probably spent as much time in the police cars, backseat and cuffed, than the cops.

This guy was on paid leave while they investigated him:

One such individual was Sgt. Weiss Rasool, Fairfax County Police Department, Va. Rasool was an officer who routinely drove his police car to CAIR National and had meetings with CAIR leaders. Rasool would also bring Islamic leaders from Dar Al Hijrah (Falls Church/home of several 9/11 terrorists), the ADAMS Center, and others to visit the Police Academies and arranged meetings with senior law enforcement officials to promote the Islamic ideology. Rasool was also providing suspects and Islamic leaders who were being investigated by law enforcement, detailed information on their cases. He was subsequently prosecuted and his law enforcement credentials were removed.

You have absolutely no clue about cars and the wear and tear these cruisers endure. Do you drive your car ALL OVER THE COUNTY EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR? No. At most you drive a horrendous commute to and from work and most of the rest of the day and night your car sits in a parking space. How long do you think a car that is driven around 50K a year is going to last? How economically feasible do you think it is to pour thousands of dollars into a vehicle with 200-400K miles on it?

Hate to burst your little bubble, but the cops need vehicles and they need to be replaced regularly. This is a huge police force, and it needs a lot of cars.

If you really want to bitch, try looking into why FCPS has so many vehicles. There's a place that looks like it could use some cut backs, but since I personally haven't looked into it, it's just a guess based on the number of school vehicles I see wandering around the county or sitting parked at shopping centers all day.

Just ask former FCPD Amanda Perry about police cars. She is/was an absolute expert.

She'll have to wash the blood off her hands first. They should have offered her a bit part on Game of Thrones, you know, that whole method acting thing.

We at least we are getting something for out tax dollars...I guess the money would be better spent on having the people in jail do garbage clean up....now I wish the cops would line up at the Maryland and DC line and stop all the crickets that have destroyed the county!!!

Exactly what he said...Ford discontinued the Crown Vic. Not even that recently, it was back in 2011. The new cars are Taurus based...

The FCPD cars need heavy duty suspension for jumping curbs to park on the sidewalk in front of restaurants.
