DC Metro Area- What is considered a Suburb vs a Ex-urb

At what point do you get out of the DC metro area? People seem to be moving further out in some sense expanding the metro area.

Traditionally outside the beltway use to be considered far from dc.

For those of you who are more than 20 miles for work is their a specific reason you live where you do?

I think the DC Metro Area border is established by counties containing park and rides.

Interesting according to the Wikipedia map Fairfax County is part of the core while closer in Arlington and Alexandria are considered suburbs.
