Fairfax County Crime, up so far this year!

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Fairfax County crime went up 12 percent in the first six months of 2008, fueled mostly by an increase in burglaries and larcenies, police said Tuesday.

Two-thirds fewer people have been killed in drunk-driving accidents in Fairfax County this year, while arrests for impaired driving have increased 25 percent, county police said.

Four people have died in alcohol-related crashes so far this year, compared with 13 for the same period last year, county police said.

As of Aug. 20, officers had arrested 1,975 people for driving while intoxicated (DWI). Police arrested 1,578 people on those charges during the same period in 2007, authorities said.
