Two-thirds fewer people have been killed in drunk-driving accidents in Fairfax County this year, while arrests for impaired driving have increased 25 percent, county police said.
Four people have died in alcohol-related crashes so far this year, compared with 13 for the same period last year, county police said.
As of Aug. 20, officers had arrested 1,975 people for driving while intoxicated (DWI). Police arrested 1,578 people on those charges during the same period in 2007, authorities said.
