Many cops are pricks. They didn't necessarily start that way. The shit they have to deal with - people at their worst. Go fight a ticket in court (or just plead no contest) and watch the human garbage that is part of their daily job. I don't envy them.
My plan is to avoid them at all costs. There is no good situation that involves the cops - you're either a suspect or a victim.

Best actual advice: When they ask you 'Do you know how fast you were going?', you answer 'Yes - the speed limit'.
They're trying to get you to incriminate yourself, say something like 'uh, no officer, I had no idea'. That way, if you go to court and say you weren't speeding, the cop can say "I asked and he said he didn't know, and now he's saying he did know?"
I speak from experience. Admit nothing. Oh and signing the ticket concedes nothing, only says you agree to appear.

Just be glad you aren't in Prince William County or Prince Georges County. There they shoot you.
The Fairfax County PD is pretty damn good.
However, if you are being followed by an unmarked police car with flashing lights- day or particularly night, you should call 911 before pulling over - or go to a well lighted area.
You want to make sure it isn't one of the rapist impostors from Maryland.

That's correct. If you fail to sign, you will be arrested and taken before the magistrate. Signing the summons is not an admission of guilt, its a promise to appear. If you won't agree to appearing in court, you are arrested on the spot.

Say: "What - you don't know?" Or just keep saying 'I was going the. speed. limit. If he persists, politely decline to answer. You don't actually have to answer the police, so do not incriminate yourself.

Actually my best luck has been when I was completely honest about speeding. I've been pulled over a lot, as I'll be the first to admit, having a lead foot. Its up to the officers discretion, but one officer admitted to me my honesty, had him change my speeding ticket from 27 over to 19 over.
