Where can I buy a good, older, truck around here?

I'm looking to sell my car and buy a truck. But I'd rather buy an older model, something '75-'95.

Good ideas?

Too old for CARMAX. Try Craigs List or some other interweb criminal operation. You buy something that old you better be ready to do a lot of walking or hitch hiking!

Not really. Assuming that you get something that's fuel injected with electronic ignition anyway. I had far fewer problems with older trucks than with the newer ones that I've had (have several at any given time for business purposes). More simple, more solidly built, don't have a lot of the complicated crap like variable cam timing, flimsy on-the-fly 4WD versus good strong manual hubs, etc., etc., that tends to go wrong.

The newer trucks do get you better power and mileage, nicer interior and gadgets, but that comes at a price in terms of complexity and lighter build.

Don't have any real great suggestions. Good older trucks that aren't beat work trucks hold their value well and go fast. Just have to come across them at the right time.

Look outside the DC area. Your typical NoVa resident really isn't the target market for older trucks because they have cash and are more likely to want those nicer interiors and gadgets.

1996 Chevy Silverado - In Ashburn. My son has had this truck for three years. It is great.New tires and a fuel pump. Also did his own brakes because he wanted to learn.

Needs something with better gas mileage as he is leaving for college soon and is going 4 hours away.

Let me know if interested.

If you are willing to take a little trip try GW enterprises down near JMU. I dont know exactly where this guy gets all his trucks but he has always got some good work trucks. If you can live with a Toyota it will outlast any American truck by far. I have purchased three used toyotas from GW.

You can find them at Chuckie Cheese, Target, any crafts store, and Home Depot.

Just look on Autotrader and be willing to go further than 100 miles from here to get it. Any decent truck should be able to drive you home from anywhere in the 48 at least. If you're that broke Greyhound is always cheap. Dont forget a trip permit from DMV its only like $10 for up to 3 days in VA, just tape it in your back window and have insurance and a valid license. Keep an extra $500 on you for any roadside repairs and dont forget AAA will get you 100 miles for free, then you pay a cheap per mile rate the rest of the way home. Godspeed.

There is a place down on 29S called Western Trucks that always has nice older trucks for sale. I believe it is south of Culpepper.

Drive down Centreville Rd. in Manassas and Manassas Park. There're used car lots owned by foreign dudes left and right.
