Hi I have an unusual question and hope you can help me. Do public pay phone still exist in fairfax co and where are they? I read an article about them in NY city few days ago. It seems there is a renew interest and resurgence for this old service. Have a great spring and love life.

the front area of most of the Giants will have one - usually near where they have the rug cleaner.

original Tysons has them in their vestibules. Also I think Fair Oaks and Tysons II has them near the bathrooms. Target stores seem to have one around customer service but I may be wrong about that.

Burger King in Reston has one outside the entrance. Many 7-11s still have one. Also, they're still in Metro stations by the fare machines as well.

The one at the gas station down the street from my house gets a workout.
The difficulty for a business to maintain a pay phone is that they have
to pay for the line, equipment, and maintenance. The rate of vandalism
is high. Another downside is the types of crowds they attract, depending
on the location. Unless they're a real moneymaker, most businesses these
days look at them as a pain in the ass.

They will be around hundreds of years. Have you not seen The Matrix movies? They survived the holocaust by the machines.

I used to have one at my business and the phone company paid for the line, equipment, and maintenance. I sold the business a few years ago, but I think the phone is still there.

Try the 7-11 near the Manassas Raceway. You may have you fight Javier, Armando and Jose for it, but it's there.

Who needs a payphone anymore?

Any legitimate/legal use could easily be handled by borrowing a landline or somebody's mobile phone.

The days of paying for long distance are gone. The per-minute cost for business lines or mobile calls is amazingly low.

Try making a local ten-minute call from a pay phone and see how much it costs. In these days of practically free long distance, imagine how much a call to the other side of DC would cost.

This is yet another reason why it is so expensive to be poor.

what would all the aspiring drug dealers do if pay phones weren't available? all phones are traceable now, so what's better than a payphone?

Code of Virginia regulates where pay phones can be located.

Advanced GIS systems with direct links to local state and federal drug crime statistics help the FBI to place phones in the proper area.

If you see a pay phone it is a good indication that drugs are nearby.

This is a community service provided by the government to help poorer, mostly illegal immigrant dealers provide services that richer lazy fucks are unwilling to.

Sneakers tied together thrown over the overhead wires is an even lower cost alternative that does not require government assistance.

The more you know...

Odd as hell but Claremont Elementary in Arlington has one in their gym. It actually works too. I don’t think even airports have them anymore...

Gerry can pretend COX VERIZON HOLLYWOOD NEW YORK didn't agree to free TV for the poor and free phones due to removing all pay phones.

BUT they did agree, and they agreed to get at certain funding and rules they otherwise wouldn't have gotten.

however - they know that when the public forgets, they can get away with skirting the agreements

what did they get?

* ability to lock out competitors

* ability to jam compatitors with filters and security. WHO: email providers that don't do junk mail. websites (they charge $110/mo to enable what is naturally enabled: it's a scam).

* ability to lie to people about there being no commercials - then putting in EVEN MORE COMMERCIALS

* use of federal money and colleges to develop set top boxes (instead of their own)

* use of federal loans to lay down fiber

* re-negging on the RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE PREVIOUS CONTRACTS WITH THE GOVERMENT - broadcast radio and tv (considered necessity for wartime information, and paid for as such). ie payphones removed, TV no longer broadcasted

* use of federal agencies (dnc democrat) to fund ads where commercial ads are supposed to be played

* operating without any guidance from FCC (ie, sex inuendo that would be illegal)

* much more, ie guaranteed jobs and ability to hire their kids into it

They got allot out of the deals of being oligopolies.
