Spacebar in Falls Church

Pretty good place -- 24 taps of REALLY good beer. The menu is limited to a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, but it was a great grilled cheese. We went early, so there were some grey heads in there enjoying the beer; I'm sure it gets younger later. Hot red-headed girl behind the bar. Worth checking out.

It's cool, but cramped. It's the sister of Galaxy Hut in Arlington, which is also cramped.

Went there once and had bad service. Owner was hanging out in the little kitchen area behind the bar, eating a sandwich and playing with his phone instead of serving us.

Service sucks. They seemed too busy with each other to bother with us customers. We wont be back.

Someone has a personal bone to pick with the owner.

It's a laid back and low key place like Lost Dog and the Beach Shack. Take your "kiss my ass" customer service attitude and uptight ass to one of the chain restaurants. There is no pleasing someone like you, who obviously hates their current life situation and takes it out on young servers working for your petty tips, then trashes independent restauranteurs online.

Last time I checked, an owner isn't a server. As long as his server is providing you with adequate service, then he is free to play with his phone and do as he pleases, since he is the owner after all.

They serve grilled cheese sandwiches there and these guys are acting like they are at the Palm!

F that. I haven't been there. I might try it, though, just to see for myself.

But if a place has bad service, I generally don't go there again. After all, if they can't figure out how to serve people right, what else can't they figure out?

If you can tolerate bad service, what else do you tolerate about a place? Bad food?

If you tolerate bad service, why do you go there? Just to be part of the "scene"? A bunch of "cool hipsters" hanging out eating bad food and complaining about the government?

C'mon, man!! Have some respect for yourself, you low-expectation having fool.

Sorry, I'm not a "hipster," but when I desire high expectations for service, I go to the Palm, not a hipster dive that serves grill cheese sandwiches (would you expect the same of fast food restaurants?). It's obvious you are the OP and have an axe to grind with the owner over something trivial, since you made a point to state that you have never been there.

You just like to bitch about shit, because you can.

If I get bad service at a fast food restuarant, I consider not going there again, as well.

So, I don't need to spend a lot of $$$ to expect good service, or decent food, for that matter.

Sorry, I guess I just have higher, albeit reasonable, expectations than some.

And no, I've never been to the grilled cheese place (or whatever it is) in Falls Church.

They're trying to use iPads and iPhones to replace the normal order taking system but while really hip, it's not efficient. Beer with a huge mark up along with grilled cheese at a huge mark up, they keep the riff raff out with high prices, so you're sure to be surrounded by fellow posers. Be sure to tip ~100% on drinks if you expect to be spotted by a bartender when it gets crowded.

Like Mad Fox, they're going for the trendy urban beer crowd, but forgetting that out in the suburbs you need to server food and allow the moms and dads to bring their kids along. Why go to either of these places when Dogfishhead has better beer, service, food, and atmosphere right up the street?

I only tip a 100% if I don't have a tab.

the REALLY sad part of that....................is that I never said "urban"

Kids are not even allowed inside Spacebar so moot point.

It's a very laid back atmosphere where the focus is on the quality and variety of microbrews they bring in. If that's not your thing then don't go..

This.

I'm sure if I showed up here late, there would be more young people, which I'm not. But I'm a beerhead, and they've got GREAT beer, and my sandwich was good. I'll be back.

How do you know for a fact that they were employees? What did the owner of this establishment do to you that you are now judging the integrity of his supposed employees like some sort of moral compass? lol

I go out a lot, been to a lot of bars and such.

I'd give spacebar a 5/10, the service does suck. And no, I don't expect five star service at a place like that.... but what's the point in having 24 beers on tap if the customer cant even get one every so often???

I've been twice and had no issues with the service. The server was friendly, the beer was served promptly, and the food didn't take too long.

Also, they have tater tots...
