Went to the Gun Store Today. It Was Like Black Friday.
Posted by: Constitutionalist ()
Date: December 21, 2012 08:01PM

Just after lunch at the gun store. The walls normally covered with AR-type weapons is picked clean. I was discussing with an employee what I was in the market for when another comes from the back with three AR weapons. I asked to see one, said "I'll take it and that one too". Within 60 seconds the third was claimed. It ran me just under $3K. Best lunch break I've taken in awhile.

I have seven in the safe at home. These two I'll be selling at the gun show next week after adding a laser to each. Look for the guy with the note in his hat advertising an AR for sale. It should turn an easy profit.

Who knows what's going to happen with Smilin' Joe and his crew going to work next month, plus No'bama likely to bypass the Constitution and the law by passing some crazy-ass EO to get his way and satisfy the left wing nuts.

And if you're wondering, yes, my eyes did well up listening to the story of what happened last week. But this over-reaction is a knee jerk drummed up by the liberal media. It's a people problem, not a gun problem. If misspelled words were rampant, would we ban pencils?

If not enough laws are the problem, how about we just make murder illegal? I'm sure that would fix it!

I thought the constitution said we have the right to bear arms. I was going to catch me a black bear and cut his arms off and keep 'em.

How much would that gun that you bought for 3K usually have run? Just trying to figure out their markup...

There is no over-reaction "drummed up by the liberal media". How would any media, liberal, conservative, or otherwise, "drum up" an over-reaction to some twenty-six 10 year olds getting their lives shot away?

BTW, I am not "liberal".

"If misspelled words were rampant, would we ban pencils?"

Those cute little bumper sticker type sayings are usually the tools of f-knob liberals.

Don't be f'in stupid.

Obviously, there is no comparison between the use of a pencil (generally not deadly in any circumstance) and the use of a gun (generally meant to be deadly in most every circumstance).

How f'in stupid.

You liberals missed the part where under the old assault weapons ban this still would have happened. The guns were legally obtained. During that so called ban I could still buy the AR knockoffs. But go ahead and panic and write a few hundred more laws to add to the thousand already on the books if that makes you feel safer.

His mother had the obvious choice if she was having issues with this kid. Like no guns in the house and certainly do not take this defect target shooting.

I think he bought two for a total of 3k. But before the mass hysteria I believe you could have picked up a Colt for $1,400 but I would safely say at the gun show next week dealers will ask for and get over $2,000 easy. Ammo will not even make it into the building before it is sold.

No over reation? No media cries about gun control? As a father of a young child, I mourn the loss of those children every bit as much as you might, if not more. But this is not a gun issue. It's a mental illness issue. Enacting more gun laws when the ones we have are not enforced is not going to solve anything except to disarm those who use guns in a responsible way and take away from law abiding citizens the ability to protect themselves.

BTW, get your story straight. It was 20 children and the rest were adults.

Yea its so stupid that both do exactly what the user wants them to do. Dam cars making people drive drunk.

If only killing people was illegal

The pencil argument, that brilliant piece of logic, and your idea that guns and cars are similar (I guess what you're saying is that cars, like guns, don't kill people, people kill people) both miss the crucial point.

Pencils and cars provide great utility to the public.

The argument is, of course, that guns have limited utility to the public.

You might notice that I haven't taken a side here, I just want you fellas to sharpen up your arguments.

But no, guns don't compare to pencils and cars, in this context.

"Must blame the object" comes close to a bumper sticker that I would expect to see on some rainbow-laden Prius.

C'mon, fellas.

"Bookish and overweight, a 16 year old kills his mother with a butcher knife, puts on a trench coat, hides his .30-30 rifle under it and drives to school. Upon arriving in the parking lot he opens fire killing two and injuring others.

He would have continued his killing spree, killing countless others, until hero assistant Principal Joel Myrick heard the shots and ran to his truck. He unlocked the door, removed his gun from its case, removed a round of bullets from another case, loaded the gun and went looking for the killer. “I’ve always kept a gun in the truck just in case something like this ever happened,” said Myrick.

The shooter, surprised that anyone would be armed and that his life might actually be in danger, tries to talk to Myrick but eventually drops to the ground and is subdued until police arrive.

This just strengthens my argument that mass shooters, by and large, are cowards and that is why they go to gun free zones. They do not need to fear an unarmed population. But the minute someone steps up to confront them with a firearm (be they police or a lawful citizen) they cower and either give up, flee, or kill themselves.

Chances are you never heard of Joel Myrick. Most periodicals that ran the story at the time, just wrote as little as they could about him. It is as if the press only grudgingly acknowledged his role. An armed principal stopping a school shooting? Nonsense, according to gun control zealots and their media accomplices that just never happens.

I am sure there are dozens of people who are alive today thanks to the heroism of Joel Myrick. The shooter, upon his arrest admitted that after he was done shooting up the high school he was going to make his way to the Junior high and continue his rampage. That was before an armed principal stopped the carnage in its tracks."

Personally, the time someone tried to carjack me and yanked open the drivers' door to find a 9mm staring back at him. It changed the situation real fast. I've seen plenty of stories about people protecting themselves by using guns without ever firing a shot. The mere presence and willingness to use one is often all that's needed.

All of the misspellings in your post show the need for erasers. And for dealing with the problem, in your case, of some directed remedial education.

You have a child and continue buying guns?
For three thousand dollars? You are very immature.
Are you buying up the guns so others can't? Is this your way of protecting children? You must be some kind of rich or did you use your gun to rob someone?
Wow, we are impressed. Saving the children by grabbing all the guns.
You are a hero and deserve a medal.
I hope your child never gets their hands on one of your guns.

For the person who protects his own life or the life of a loved one, the utility in the gun he uses is immeasurable.

Good for you. That's one.

Any idea how many people have "protected themsleves" vs. how many people have been killed by f-knobs spraying bullets around?

No doubt. Again, though, that logic misses a crucial point.

Which is, how many people have been gunned down by some f-knob spraying bullets around a schoolyard, or any other public place, vs. how many people have been saved by some gun toting hero in a similar situation?

Yes, I have a child. And yes, I buy guns. There's no correlation between those two facts.

Why does the amount of discretionary income I have make me immature? Successful, perhaps, but immature? And you don't know whether that $3K was my 'walking around money' or maybe I maxed out my credit cards. (It was the former.)

No, I bought them as a quick turnaround investment. Straight cash deal at both ends. No medal needed, the profit will be enough for me.

My child only recently learned that we have guns in the house. She's asked when I'm going to teach her how to shoot. (FWIW, everything in the house is secured in a safe save for the one I keep handy for things that go bump in the night. And that is kept inaccessible to her.)

I have been target shooting since I was around 10 with a .22 and later other assorted firearms. I do not carry one in public but I do have one for home defense. Unless you break into my home you have nothing to fear from me or my gun.

$3,000 "walking around money?"

You're "sucessful," and you walk around with $3K. And you feel the need to point that fact out to people here?

Why is that disturbing to you? Tough times working behind the Slurpee machine?

So I'll turn that $3K into $4K or better within a few days.

Its you who misses the point. A gun is only as dangerous as the person that holds it.

So do guns. They provide food for many families and homeless shelter, they provide protection, they prevent the government from becoming a totalitarian regieme, and last I checked cars and pencils werent protected in the bill of rights.

There hasnt been a legitimate argument made against guns on here. Not once has the question been answered what law would have prevented the shooting that brought all this up.

Why should we blame an object when it was a person who committed that horrible act. Stop making excuses for the person and place the blame where it should be, on him.

Dude, no one is going to give you $3k for a regular le6920. I have a nib limited edition Colt Socom II with Daniel Defense I would sell in an instant for $3k. I have two piston LMTs I would sell for that price in an instant too. You are being a douche because of your delusional pricing. Those are not HKs you got, just regular colts.

Constitutionalist was definitely the attention seeker last night. Boasting about the many guns he owns, having throw around money to purchase AR-15s during lunch and then going home to his family and posting about his accomplishments on Friday night. The wife must be very proud to have such an outstanding man who carries a pistol with 17 rounds ready to protect his car in a moments notice.
I enjoyed the post about a vet who voiced his opinion about AK-47s and the Constitutionalist pounced on him like a true American. Fuck his freedom of speech. You the man, Constitutionalist! You Navy Seals are one tough bunch.
What's up for today. Gonna take the wife and kid to the firing range to try out the 15's, then to lunch and a Xmas party.

I think he said he had two guns he bought for 3k total. Averaging $1,500 a piece and selling them next weekend I am confident he will make $500 on each one probably alot more. You have to recognize the anti gun drones caused the panic and when there is panic there is demand.

This is NoVa and people around here have more money than they know what to do with. Dont blame him because people panic and pay more than they should.

I never jumped on anyone about AK-47s. You might want to look again.

My 9mm, which I keep handy in the truck/car along with my CCP, has a 17 rd mag. So? Would I be a better man with 3 rounds? How about 6? What's the magic number that makes it acceptable?

"...protect his car at a moments notice"
Actually I was protecting my life when someone yanked at my door while screaming "Get the fuck out of the... Oh shit!"
Cars can be replaced.

Again, how does having discretionary spending money, and not a really large amount that I mentioned, make me wrong? Just because Slurpee-boy who was responding to my post doesn't?

I'm not a SEAL. Never claimed to be.

This is true.

If you've walked into a gun store in the last week, you know that there is a full on run.

stores with 40-50 rifles on the wall a week ago have nothing left--including handguns and magazines.

If you think a few stupid crackers can account for this you are out of your mind.

The rest of you sheeple can take care of yourselves when only the authorities and criminals have weapons and all you have is... knives maybe?

How long before those are restricted as well?

Headlines: Assaults and Murders with knives at all time high! Fifth person this month robbed at gunpoint at your local neighborhood. Citizens cry out against crimes! Citizens take: "Why aren't crimes made illegal?"

This constitutionalist buys guns to resale? To whom? Buying to sell guns requires a license. And he just stated on this forum his intentions so should the ATF be contacted. Or perhaps the Washington Post is already reading this thread.

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this on mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must mas as I must master my life. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me must shoot him before he shoots me. I will... My rifle and myself know that what counts in thi is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, o smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that We will hit... My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessorie sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean an ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will bec part of each other. We will... Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myse the defenders of my country. We are the masters our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!

The reason gun sales are surging is because of the Obama/media
war on the 2nd Amendment/Constitution. Thats the only reason and
you're full of shit.

You think it was the mass shooting that caused the run?

It was all the fucking liberals coming on TV and saying they didn't feel "safe" and demanding more gun control. . . .

Here's the real question--why didn't your man Obama start pushing on the gun control in the first term instead of letting our Idiot VP run around claiming he had no designs on his "Beretta" (btw, isn't that a 15 round magazine)?

Hmm? maybe he was hoping for some tragedy so, to quote his chief of staff, they would have a crisis to "not let go to waste"?

Guns then end up in wrong hands then gun nuts scream we need more guns to control violence. Pretty smart but someone just sold out their country.
Cool. I always thought gun nuts were secretly trying to sell the country out.
Great game plan but it took a dork to figure the conspiracy.

probably everyone who checked this thread went out and tried to buy a gun. and when they saw the comments they probably tried to buy more. So the posters who checked in to register their disapproval caused more gun sales. But maybe this is their objective. To induce even more unstable people to buy guns to cause a greater tragedy.

Very intelligent response for a pro gun advocate.
To whom will he sell the weapons?
To another frustrated male who would like to make his statement to society?
Or maybe a terrorist? Cash in while innocent people loose their lives?
Appears the constitutionalist wants to play Russian roulette with his child. A former poster may be right about people buying guns since the lastest massacre.
Traitors. Who would buy guns for resale to unknowns without a background check?
If a crime is committed with those guns, then the oringinal party should be held accountable.

Once the schools are armed, then we have to arm the train stations, theaters, fast food places and anywhere more than 3 people gather. More guns makes no sense, We have to find another way.

gun control is not the answer. all these mass killers have one thing in common, they all have serious mental problems. you want to end mass killings, reopen all mental institutions so there is a place to put these nuts who will never function in society like normal people do. you cant prevent every shooting like this, but if we deal with the mental people, it would prevent most of these shootings. gun control will never solve the problem, even if every gun was banned. there will always be illegal guns on the streets. the only thing that would be accomplished is takng all guns from law abiding citizens who use them responsibly. gun control isnt the problem, its the wacko nut jobs that gained access to them. thats the real problem.

Not all firearms that the US government uses is allowed in the hands of private citizens. That's gun control. You don't see anyone using .50 cal machine guns to commit crimes or go hunting or target practicing, or accidentally shooting their children at nearly the rate of other types of firearms. Gun control works, but not yet well enough.

Gun control simply needs to be expanded to ban the use of all machine guns and semi-automatics by private citizens, too, with no exceptions. It will work. Already is working, albeit incompletely, for the machine gun.

Expand gun control.

That would be stupid and irresponsible.
I'm neither.
They're secure in the gun safe with locks
in place, just as with my other guns.

Any buyers have to produce valid govt-issued
IDs and a passport to buy from me. I make photocopies
and take a photo of them with the gun with face
clearly visible. Bill of sale is notarized.
That's the terms to buy from me. Oh, and straight
cash.

Private gun sales are perfectly legal. I'm simply
selling private property to an interested party.
I don't sell my personal posessions very often,
but when I do these are the terms. If someone balks,
then move on as I've other interested parties.

And my girl is well aware of gun safety - don't touch,
don't play, and call an adult if you see one. She
knows she'll be taught to shoot when she's old enough.

"and a passport"? Fuck that.

Notarized? Did not know that there were notaries at the gun show. You can't legally notarize it yourself as you are a party to the sale.

And you bring a photocopier with you or one is provided by the venue?

It's starting to sound like you're making stuff up.

Sub humans like Pelosi and Feinstein are sure to take your firearms away. I'm planning on purchasing a few new ones, before the liberals try to take everything. That is their agenda, they might say " a few" but really mean many.

The show is just to find a buyer. The sale is completed
at my house. And I know I can't notarize my own BoS, but
there are other notaries nearby.

I've never had problems doing business.

Say what? For allowing people the means by which to engage
in a hobby plus the added benefit of protecting themselves

Sounds like gun resellers trying to frontrun any restrictions. They know there'll be another rush to buy if and when new laws are enacted.

Protect yourself in a house with a rifle?
You've been watching to many movies.
Do the world a favor and destroy the weapons, pay off your credit cards and hope your child never has to suffer for your shady business practices.
Make a positive contribution to society instead of capitalizing on ignorant
fears. Don't sell America short and add tools for violence.

The strict definition of an "assault rifle" is selective fire, full automatic or three-round burst.

The phrase "assault weapon" was coined by the totalitarians to fit their agenda. It has no meaning apart from what suits their agenda. To their mind, stock, magazine, forend etc make it a military weapon. Wrong. It's the auto firing mechanism. But they neither knew nor cared. And that's part of the problem.

A semi-auto rifle (one bullet fired per trigger squeeze) is NOT a military weapon no matter how badly its appearance frightens the quiche eaters.

A .223 Bushmaster is a "powerful" weapon only compared to a BB gun. It is based on the M16, whose cartridge is designed to wound rather than to kill so that opposing troops would be taken out of the fight to care for the wounded.

If you want a "powerful" rifle google the .338. Or for that matter any of the hunting cartridges designed to kill elephants, cape buffalo, polar bears etc.
Again, the gun grabbers twist the language to suit their totalitarian agenda.

Magazine size is irrelevant. A rifleman who practices can change any size magazine in seconds.

Someone who may have no skill whatsoever is not a rifleman simply because he shoots one.

Mental illnesses in all forms are not invisible, except to "those so blind that they would not see." The characteristic seeds of mental and emotional imbalance are there to be seen in anyone long before they grow to manifest in a tragic explosion which sets off yet another cosmic shock to the "not MY child!!!" attitude of many comprising the parent segment of humanity. Nowadays, however, such behavior has come to be accepted as the norm, so much so that hardly anyone raises an eyebrow while so many act like mindless gangsters at younger and younger ages--(after all, the video games would not do all the massacring if it were not now the norm, would they)?

Why is it that so much money and time is spent on sports and so little is spent in the psychological testing of kids nowadays in the schools, where mental health issues could be discovered early enough to be able to provide intervention?

Often parents are clueless as to the causal part they themselves play in exacerbating the tendency toward emotional unbalances in their kids. What comes to mind is when the parent wants to live his personal failed dreams out through the kids, forcing the kid into... (you fill it in here: football...basketball...hunting...becoming an astronaut..you name it..when the kid might only want to learn about history..or art..or music...or even snakes (?) and could not care one little bit for mommy and daddy's pet futures all laid out and then force-fed into him/her!

It has to do with the guidance and the giving of enough personal space for the kids to be allowed to grow in positive directions that they have the innate abilities and desires to pursue, and when they are not given such guidance and love and direction, things can quickly add up to the creation of the social disasters we are seeing today. Today, media has replaced imagination in the individuals addicted to it. Without imagination, all that is left is a mind controlled robot, accepting blindly and acting out fantasies programmed in by some other mind's negative creations, that someone getting paid handsomely for his efforts to create more addicts.

The mother maybe did not recognize the difference between normal and bizarre or antisocial unbalanced behavior early enough to have gotten the necessary mental health intervention (for the whole family in this case because she herself could not even see that there might be problems with her own behavior--the fact that the parents are divorced could have precipitated some sort of mental problem when the issues way back when between them started their path toward the divorce. Perhaps they had no idea how their family turmoil was affecting the sensitive kid, because they were so wrapped up in their own selfish issues they never thought to look at how it affected the child.

It is time to recognize that we need to be able to catch early onset mental problems in kids from the earliest years and if necessary pass laws that the kids and--if found necessary--also their parents--should be given needed treatment--whether counseling, therapy, classes in parenting and family relations, etc--whatever it takes--when they are found in need of such to raise their levels of awareness about cause and effect--physically, mentally and emotionally--and the part that plays in all levels of living of all people.

We don't know if this mother was a "survivalist nut case" or just a normal hunting enthusiast doing her thing, but all of the people I have encountered so far who are legitimate gun or hunting enthusiasts and hobbyists (meaning not "nuts and kooks" readying themselves for real or imagined future urban battles with zombies, aliens, etc.), have had the safety of their families foremost in mind with the proper safe storage and controlled access and usage of their gun and ammo treasuries. Anyone with the money to buy personal guns and ammo these days can afford the gun and ammo locking cabinets or safes to keep them in, and should have the sense also to limit access to them when kids beg to be able to learn how to "play" with them until the kid shows the maturity to deal with any kind of extreme emotional upheaval in his/her life in a mature and balanced way. Again, the parent should have the insight to judge whether their kid is emotionally balanced enough to be trusted with a firearm, IF they are actually doing their responsible duty as a mother.

Saturday nite specials. 32 or 38 throwaway revolvers.
Now they sell bushmasters and glocks
Less heroin but more meth
Northern Virginia is now the connivence store

What a bunch of horseshit. What's the need for all this hand-wringing and diagnosing--kids are messed up because they have to raise themselves now.

Why is this surprising to anyone? That when the mother leaves the home, and leaves her kid to raised by someone else or XBOX--that these kids would be messed up.

@abandoned - +1

if the mom did her FUCKING job the way she was supposed to (i.e. love her son MORE than she did those damn guns) then 20 families up there would not have their Christmas Holidat FOREVER ruined.

And when I use the word "love" in that sentence, I really mean "care enough to fucking at least TRY to make sure he never would be able to use the firearms in the house against himself or others"

not rocket science, right?

That sums it up. FFx moms are too busy seeing who drives the biggest SUV, who has the best home or whose husband has the biggest dick. The kids are left to raise themselves. I have heard more than once a mom saying I just park the kids in front of the video games so I can relax. You dont want the screaming little brats then dont have them.

So if I need a gun the best way is to pop the trunk of a car that has a NRA sticker?

Or the glove(gun)compartment
Under the seat.
Behind the child restraint chair.
At least three per car
A smorgasbord of guns in every car.

and hope the owner with the CCW permit doesnt catch you. You can count on a couple of things, he will be armed, he knows how to use it and no jury would convict.

Location for best prices? Centerville, Fairfax City, Burke, Springfield, Annandale, McLean, Tyson's, Clifton or Hybla Valley?

Nah, not mine. No sticker. No "keep honking while I reload" stickers, either.
If it's not on me (if I'm in a school, church, govt building, etc.) it's in a small vault bolted securely under the back seat with a coat covering it. Not
totally unbreakable, but it would take time and draw attention, as would the
alarm (as if anyone pays attention to those anymore!)

At work my truck is in a highly secured lot patrolled by armed guards with dogs. Please (please-please-please!) try to snatch it from there!!!
