This just in, who's got the scoop?

A message from ROBINSON SEC

Dear Parents & Guardians,

I wanted to alert you to an incident that occurred today at Robinson. School administrators confiscated a gun inside a student’s locker. Fairfax Police were notified immediately and criminal and administrative investigations are underway. The students involved have been identified and questioned. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in response to this very serious event. We recognize the danger associated with any weapon in the school. While we regard this as an isolated incident, please know that any violations that jeopardize the safety of students at Robinson will result in severe consequences as outlined in the Student Rights & Responsibilities document. I encourage you to engage your children in discussions about how to deal with similar situations in the future. The adults responsible for keeping students safe can do their jobs more effectively, if students are willing to report problems. We will continue to monitor this situation to ensure the safety of students.

We are very appreciative of the quick response to this incident by our students, staff and School Resource Officers. We take pride in providing a very safe environment at Robinson and we will vigilantly do all in our power to take care of every one of our students and staff members. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call the school office.

Must not have been that big of a deal since my kid at Robinson didn't even know about it until I asked.

Seems like most students did not know about the incident until the e-mail was sent. The e-mail says "students" so not sure what that is about.

Not official, but what has been mentioned on Twitter and via conversation with Robinson staff....Freshman female student brought gun to school in order to give it to another female to have after school. Likely use in an altercation following school with people not attending Robinson.

Reality - we will never know because the FCPS publicity machine will gloss over it all.

That is soooo true about the publicity hush machine about any incidents of this nature in our Fairfax County schools... Just saw a lead-off piece on it on the 10:00 Fox News though so a broader audience is now aware !! I remember when my daughter went there and she would tell me about the gang fights that the neighborhood never knew about... as a taxpayerI never would have heard about it until David Marsden was runnoing for a local office and started talking about it in his publicity mailings... had it not been from the 'insider' reports from my daughter !!

This is very upsetting. I assume the student has been expelled permanently. The parents of this student should also be held responsible. They need to explain to the Robinson community why they allowed a child access to a loaded gun.

The penalty is at least one year expulsion.

Plus, it's a felony to have an unauthorized gun at school:

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-308.1

> ...The parents of this student should also be held responsible...

There's a law about "unsecured firearm" but it's conditional on the kid being less than 14; that is unlikely in this case.

Since the rumor is that the kid "conspired" with another kid about this (she purportedly was going to give the gun to another kid to use somewhere), the State could probably nail them with all sorts of other laws, most of them felonies.

Jumping to a LOT of conclusions aren't we?
We don't know if it was a real gun.
We certainly don't know if it was loaded.
We definitely don't know for what purpose the gun was to be used.
We don't know if the student knew there was a gun in his/her backpack.

Get back to work people!

Well don't I feel sheepish? I am cowed by the overwhelming evidence you have provided. These facts are clearly no long in dispute.

Still not necessarily a real gun.
Still unknown if any ammo was around.
Still no real information, just rumors.
Still no one hurt or even threatened.

Think about it. Do you really expect the definitive undisputed facts to be released by a trusted named source in a case like this? Maybe the same ones who claim there are no violent gangs at Robinson.

Fact is, someone felt they needed that gun. She will not be at school today. But someone will text her (not while driving of course) and the story will come out.

if all students carried guns there would be nobody alive after a while because kids are paranoid and insecure and will shoot before being shot.

I totally am against gun control but that doesn't make be agree with asinine blanket statements about underdeveloped teenagers.

So the Burke Patch story turns up exactly zero concrete information.
The item could be a BB gun.
The item could be a rifle used by the Robinson Rifle team.

People blew this story WAY out of proportion, which is pretty typical.

Student brought in a real gun that was loaded and the result is officially a 10 day suspension.

Congratulations FCPS, you have officially let our kids run wild instead of putting them in their place like they deserve.

A girl at the school had complained to friends that she had troubles in her neighborhood, Dee Haas, president of the Robinson PTSA, said in an interview, and a second girl brought a handgun from home to give to her friend.

“She thought she was doing a favor,” said Haas, who added that she was on campus when the incident occurred.

So, what neighborhood? Clifton or Fairfax Station?

No such thing as expulsion permanenlty. Expulsion if only for a year in Virginia.

Isn't it a felony to bring a gun intoma school? Why aren't cops ever called for illegal happenings at schools, including assaults. Arrest the lawbreakers. FCPS employees should be responsible for calling the authorities when crimes happen on campus rather than coring them up in-house.

This includes elementary school too. If a child is beat up/assaulted, the cops should be called. God forbid my child is physically bullied. I will contact the authorities. Let there be an end to bullying and fcps coverups.

Cops don't have to be called. What do you think a "School Resource Officer" is? They are the cops stationed at every high school.

The student most likely will be charged. From the very first entry in this thread:

"School administrators confiscated a gun inside a student’s locker. Fairfax Police were notified immediately and criminal and administrative investigations are underway"

The hand gun was a .357 mag the clip was laying beside the gun in the locler but there was one round in the chamber. So insert the clip and the gun was ready to go. The story about one girl giving the freshmen the gun is correct.

I graduated LBSS in 1979 and brought a gun to school many days because I was in the gun club. I am guessing they do not have gun club nowadays? Too bad because it was fun. I also carried a buck knife in a leather pouch on my belt every single day and nobody said shit about it. My eighth grade shop teacher taught me how to sharpen knives to a razor edge with a stone and a little gun oil. I guess all that fun stuff is gone now. Remember the smoking lounge?

I went to Robinson and remember a guy who had a shotgun in his locker most of the school year. Nobody was ever shot. I know of at least one other person who kept a handgun in his. Why? Because he had stolen it and didn't want his parents to know. Nobody was ever killed.

Robinson had a smoking lounge too and it was always full during breaks, of both students and teachers.

So why is it that there are no more details about this incident. All the gossip says that the student was expelled. Only one? Which student? What about the fact that the purported gun bring rode my kids bus to school with said gun. I want to make sure that these students and the parents who didn't secure their gun are charged.

At the time this happened an 8th grader tried to bring a gun to school. The rumors my class talked about were either a) she was getting bullied and tried to defend herself b) her friend gave it to her because she was getting bullied c) she was having an argument with the civics teacher or d) she was really mad at some of the students and planned on using it e) it was her dads and she somehow had it because either he gave it to her or she took it. She was expelled from the school, but one of the rumors was she was trying to escape the state. No one really has talked about it for a while. And yesterday there was another incident. I will let you find out about that one on you own.

How ironic that this gets swept under the rug so quickly. One of the prized schools in the FCPS collection has a student bring a gun to school and it's hushed. Nothing was said about the fire that was started last week in one of the bathrooms by a student either.

Let's just imagine if that happened at one of the FCPS schools on the "other" side of the county. There'd be talk of how ghetto and 'hood it is....
