VA will not allow gays to get married for a long time and don't hold your breath waiting on weed or casinos. The old VA politics is always the last to come around to any of those thing.

Before this last election, I would have agreed with you. However, Virginia's transformation to a Blue state can clearly be seen in the fact that both Loudoun and Prince William counties voted for Obama, and in healthy numbers.
(Oddly enough, Henrico County went Blue as well, which must send shivers up Cantor's spine.)
Both Northern Virginia and Tidewater, the state's population centers and economic engines have become reliably Blue. The RoVA is largely irrelevant, thought I do have a soft spot for C-ville and the Peoples' Republic of Albemarle, for obvious reasons -- no, it's because that's where The University is. Now, if only Montgomery county Va. would flip back.

I think the whole marijuana legalization (no offense) should be much more palatable for VA.
I think it's a way for the Dems (if they jump on the issue) to pull support from the rest of the state.
