Part of the blame for the fall of the Roman Empire was the lead they used in their indoor plumbing. Over generations it made them dumber and more complacent.
I wonder if the birthers and other conspiracists may be onto something with all their fears of Fluoride. It does tend to calcify the pituatary gland.
Not saying it does, but I have noticed that people have become more docile and willing to buy into whatever bullshit their preferred political party or agenda-based faith is feeding them.

I don't recall ever losing power for more than a day, until 2003.

Makes you wonder. Maybe the birther conspiracy theorists are right about Fluoride. Or something else is causing widespread mental deficiencies.

Pepco hired a guy from WTOP to be their spokesman. Kinda funny.

Perhaps this is just another example of how the people who control our governments and corporations have completely written off this country now that they can achieve their profits elsewhere. Why bother repairing, updating and upgrading our infrastructure when there are new emerging markets that can be tapped for much less capital outlay? Fixing our broken bridges and crumbling roads, and burying our power lines and all that stuff costs more than building all new infrastructure in places like India, Brazil, Bangladesh, or where ever there's an emerging middle class. Especially when the tax money to pay for those things is already claimed by incumbent industries, the military industrial complex and retirees. They've already divied up the tax dollars here, no room to spread it any thinner. If you aren't getting a share now, tough luck, they've got their's.

It will happen no matter who you vote for. Although the Republican party seems to be better organized in this effort. They certainly aren't shy about their plans to "shrink government" and we all know who donates the largest amounts to their candidates, and it certainly goes the same for Democrats as far as industrialists and bankers making donations.
We haven't BECOME a third world country. We ALWAYS have been. Living in this area or any metropolitan area can give you a rosier picture of this country. Honey Boo Boo is a snapshot of the more common side of this country, where people live in houses that would be condemned in this area, and have the education and knowledge of the world of an old-school hillbilly. Just listen to some of the racial and socioeconomic hate being spewed on this forum, which is coming from people that should be a few notches above the Honey Boo Boos of this country. It gets worse once you drive a few hours away from a city.
We're doomed. The mobs will drag us down. Whether its the MSNBC mobs or the Fox News mobs, mobs have an inverse correlation between size and intelligence.
