Where is Dominion Power?

Just want to start the thread now as part of my preperation for the next multi-day outage courtesy of Dominion Power.

Any guesses On the reasons behind their incompetence this time?

What is wrong with people today? Do they not realize that when power poles and lines are knocked down that it takes TIME and man power to restore them. New lines have to be run, new poles put in the ground. It must be that "it's all about them" attitude. Idiots!

You've gotta be a complete freakin retard to vote for that rich douche Romney. I can't even begin to comprehend why anyone making less than a half a million dollars a year or a net worth of 2 million dollars would vote for Romney. Speakin of hurricane, your repukes have a great track record.

All,

Due to worker conditions and labor relations, Dominion has ceased all power restoration efforts until cooler weather prevails (est. High no higher than 75-80F per Collective Barging Agreement). If you do not have power, please patient as your power should be restored in a approximately 6-8 weeks.

Dominion has done very well despite what some claim.

For those who are not aware, all power providers must restore critical structure places such as hospitals, fire departments and police. This includes 9-11 centers.

If you are fortunuate enough to live in a section that also serves the above, you too will get power back faster. For those off the critical blocks, it is a structural rebuild. Downed wires from trees have to have trees cut away first.

There is a method to how they rebuild and restore.

Currently Dominion is staged for response. They have reached out to southern states ahead of this storm, for even if it is not overall severe enough to drop whole homes, it will knock out power.

So, to the ignorant who will whine, go ahead and complain to the commonwealth.

I love DOM. Not only does their stock pay great dividends, they rarely leave me without power for more than an hour. The last time I lost power for an extended period of time was 2004-ish, when we were out of power for about a day. During the derecho in June, lights flickered, went out for about 10 minutes and were back up and running for the duration. I have complete faith in them.

If you had mentioned Pepco, on the other hand, I would be in total agreement.

(Sidebar: Why do the nigrahs say, "Cut the lights on"? If you were to cut a line or a wire, electricity would not flow and the lights would go out. If some black savage called me at Dominion and said, "Yo...when you muddahfuckers gone cut the lights on?" I'd answer, "I'm sorry, sir...we're not able to cut power on...we can only cut power off. We CAN however TURN the muddahfuckin' power on..."

Consider yourself fortunate that you dont live somewhere like Cuba, wheee people lost their homes and lives. They do not have the security that you enjoy, a well built, safe home where your biggest concern is whether or not you may lose power, while knowing well that it eventually will be restored.

Drove past the Dominion Power office and work yard in Fairfax City on Route 50 around 5 p.m. Sunday. The place was pretty much a ghost town with a couple vehicles parked in the front and no visible activity in the work yard. With the impending doom heading this way didn't seem like an all hands on deck in prep for the storm.

Nothing shows how stupid our society has become more than their tepid response to officials telling them, ahead of time, that there WILL BE massive, long power outages. Most people not only expect this monumental incompetence, they seem to love making excuses for it.

I've lived in Fairfax County for over 50 years. Until the mid-1990s or so, the response on the part of every utility company to thunderstorms, snow storms and other extreme weather was much, much better. Until that time, no residence I ever lived in every lost power for more than a few hours, no matter what kind of dire weather there was. Snow storms, in particular, never caused power outages at all. The only time our power ever went off was during heavy thunderstorms, and it was always quickly restored.

Any of you who have lived here that long, and dispute this, are either lying or you are so brainwashed that you have lost the capacity to think. During the glorified thunderstorm we experienced earlier this year, I was not alone in citing the indisputable fact that no Dominion power trucks appeared to be out anywbhere, working on anything, no matter where I drove. One guy who lived near their headquarters reported seeing a bunch of trucks parked in back of their building. This was during a time when much of the county was still without power. If that doesn't translate into a situation where EVERY truck, and EVERY able- bodied worker should be pushing things around the clock, what does?

Well, they're telling you right now to expect that same pathetic level of "service" this time, and fron now on. Not a peep out of any official, at any level, was uttered over the last fiasco. The media, as always, just fawns over the power companies, and repeats their worthless press releases, word for word. They will never utter a word of criticism about the "performance" of the power companies, or the similarly deficient snow removal process.

I know, the regurgiated response from people to my rant will be, "there are so many more people now, more houses," etc. Sure there are. But there should also be more trucks, more workers, and greater technology. Not to mention the fact Dominion and other companies should learn from each utter failure to have a much faster response time. But since they appear to think they're doing a great job, and many citizens are deluded into thinking this as well, they have no incentive to improve. Instead, we have warnings ahead of time to expect more of the same "great service."

Keep on voting those Republicrats in. Keep on watching that television. We have become a Third World country, and that's probably what we deserve.

Part of the blame for the fall of the Roman Empire was the lead they used in their indoor plumbing. Over generations it made them dumber and more complacent.

I wonder if the birthers and other conspiracists may be onto something with all their fears of Fluoride. It does tend to calcify the pituatary gland.

Not saying it does, but I have noticed that people have become more docile and willing to buy into whatever bullshit their preferred political party or agenda-based faith is feeding them.

I don't recall ever losing power for more than a day, until 2003.

Makes you wonder. Maybe the birther conspiracy theorists are right about Fluoride. Or something else is causing widespread mental deficiencies.

Perhaps this is just another example of how the people who control our governments and corporations have completely written off this country now that they can achieve their profits elsewhere. Why bother repairing, updating and upgrading our infrastructure when there are new emerging markets that can be tapped for much less capital outlay? Fixing our broken bridges and crumbling roads, and burying our power lines and all that stuff costs more than building all new infrastructure in places like India, Brazil, Bangladesh, or where ever there's an emerging middle class. Especially when the tax money to pay for those things is already claimed by incumbent industries, the military industrial complex and retirees. They've already divied up the tax dollars here, no room to spread it any thinner. If you aren't getting a share now, tough luck, they've got their's.

It will happen no matter who you vote for. Although the Republican party seems to be better organized in this effort. They certainly aren't shy about their plans to "shrink government" and we all know who donates the largest amounts to their candidates, and it certainly goes the same for Democrats as far as industrialists and bankers making donations.

We haven't BECOME a third world country. We ALWAYS have been. Living in this area or any metropolitan area can give you a rosier picture of this country. Honey Boo Boo is a snapshot of the more common side of this country, where people live in houses that would be condemned in this area, and have the education and knowledge of the world of an old-school hillbilly. Just listen to some of the racial and socioeconomic hate being spewed on this forum, which is coming from people that should be a few notches above the Honey Boo Boos of this country. It gets worse once you drive a few hours away from a city.

We're doomed. The mobs will drag us down. Whether its the MSNBC mobs or the Fox News mobs, mobs have an inverse correlation between size and intelligence.

There is hope that a great racial conflict will at least get rid of illegal aliens.
Then comes the elimination of indigenous ferals. The sooner the better.
A magnificent economic revival would ensue.
