I think Church Street Pizza in downtown Vienna is the best in FFX. In Arlington, it's The Italian Store.

This topic comes up *ALL* the time, run a search for it and you'll find more suggestions.

If you had mentioned Arlington County, I would recommend The Italian Store at Lee Hwy. and Spout Run.

What area?

I don't think we make pizzas from chains anywhere around here. The most popular way to make pizza around here is from flattened dough.

NY PIZZA IS HIT OR MISS.

MANY PIZZA PLACES HARDLY PUT CHEESE OR SAUCE ON PIZZA. PTHERS USE A SALTY MOZZARELLA BLEND.

THE NYer's are so full of shit.

Great City. But their pizza is not end all be all.

CHicago actually kicks their ass.

There are only 2 really great pizza places, Bon Appetito next to the KMart in chantilly, and NY Pizza off St Germain Drive...they are the best! Closest to NY pizza I have ever gotten outside of the city.

Unos invented Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. I went to the original Unos in Chicago one time and ordered a Numero Uno. It tasted like a burnt pile of shit. Pizza in the 1940s must have really tasted like crap for Unos to have succeeded.

I have to agree with Church Street. The crust is great and the pizza tastes like pizza, not cardboard with canned tomato crap on it.

I wasn't sure at first if that place was going to make it, but it seems to be doing rather well now that it has made it past one year.

I'm sort of a pizza nut so I have been going to every pizza place I can find in FFX County.

This is the best in my opinion - Emilio's Brick oven in Sterling -http://www.shopsterling.com/business/emilios/ (They close week nights at 8pm... yeah I know WTF?)

Runners ups-

Church's pizza Vienna: B+
is good but I didn't care for the crust. A little soggy from me, but the place is always packed and people rave about it.

Tony's Pizza in Fair Oaks: B+
I really liked this place better than Church's. Get rid of those scrolling plasma screen menus. One minute I'm reading the selections and the next minute the menu vanishes!

Mediterranean Cafe in Herndon - The old Sylvano's -
Great pizza, great sauce, a little spicy but loaded with toppings!

If you are ever in Chicago go to Gino's East! It is the best pizza I have every had. I walked 20 blocks one night to get some.

I've been tempted to call in a takeout order FedEx - Gino's will send it - http://featuredfoods.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/a-store/c-GinoAns_East.shtml?E+scstore+ginos

Tony's NY is the closest thing I have had around here to something you would get on the Jersey Shore. Good stuff.

Interesting how the chain has been successful. The family that owns it looks pissed off all of the time. Even the people they hire to run the other restaurants have the same pissed-off attitude. Anyway, good pizza and it is very affordable.

That is the perfect signature. Every pizzeria near Philly or Jersey is the same way. Great pizza, lotsa attitude.

There's no such thing as getting good pizza from a smiley customer-oriented person.

I'd also like to add American Flatbread in Ashburn (technically not Fairfax, but we will annex it eventually anyway). Different, but very good.

Am I the only one that really doesn't like Tony's NY Pizza? Based on a previous thread in this forum, I tried it a few months ago. I have absolutely no desire to go back.

As far as know you are the only one in Fairfax County. So yes.

I guess it depends on your expectations. If you like a decent NY-style pizza, it is great. I think for the most part that means getting the cheese or pepperoni. If you order it with everything thinking you are getting Pizza Hut, you will be disappointed.

I don't think you have to actually eat burnt shit to guess at how it might taste. Not only did the pizza taste like shit, it took forever to get it. Keep in mind, this wasn't a busy evening. They just didn't give a fuck. I guess when you are Unos in Chicago you don't have to give a fuck. In this case, however, the food didn't live up to the reputation.

Yeah, Bugsy's is good, but far from being the best, IMO.

My fave is Faccia Luna on Wilson Boulevard in Clarendon. Yeah it's not in Fairfax.

Coming form NY, I can honestly say the pizza here is fraudulent and it sucks. You either get a pie with no sauce and all cheese or shit that simply isn't cooked right. I don't know what the problem is around here and why it takes all day to find a fuckn' decent slice.

That said, Italian Store is about as close as you're going to get. Another 'decent' place I can deal with is the Athens ( a greek place ) in Falls Church by Skyline Towers.

I guess because I didn't grow up in Jersey or Philly, a bad attitude is not nostalgic or charming. It's just annoying. Oh well. I just wanted pizza anyway.

Yep, and Bugsy's and Italian Store aren't in the county either. LOL

Fairfax is generally a wasteland when it comes to great pizza.
