Then start your own thread.
But, make sure you call it Alexandria County.
And Falls Church (originally part of Fairfax) was here first.

Yes, there was one in the Tyson's Station Shopping Center. To the left of where the Trader Joe's is now, and across from Whole Foods.

Unfortunately everyone I work with that lives in Arlington/Rosslyn/Suckington/Crystal Shitty is a recent transplant and could not care less about the history of NOVA. They all live in high rise apartments or condos that did not exist long ago. Fuck them.

In Arlington, everything is too old and too small. By the time you get out to Ashburn, everything is too new and too big. There's a Goldilocks zone in between though.

In the 50's, we were not allowed to wear "dungarees" to school. Many parents wouldn't buy them by any name anyway because they didn't want others to think that they were a "working class" family. The man of the house wore a jacket and tie to go to the hardware store. Wanting to be proper herself, the lady of the house had her dress hats, nylons, and white gloves for appearing in public. God, how awful.

Then and now.
This is a picture of the old Falls Church Bank. It was on the South West corner of Broad St. (Rt. 7) where it intersected with Washington St. (Rt. 29). It's directly across the street from Brown's Hardware, which has been there for over 100 years. (They're my go-to hardware store.)
The first picture was taken about 1910, the second one in February 1949, and obviously the Googlemobile's picture of the former location, taken last summer.

Easter has nothing to do with rabbits, or bunnies, or anything like that.
Don't any of you know what really happened on that day?
The price that was paid for all of us.
A price that we could never pay for ourselves.
A gift that so many just throw away.

That may be a plantation, but the tractor didn't exist in antebellum times. Looks like something from the 1950s, not the 1850s.

I know pictures of the Freeman Store in Vienna have been posted, but, I don't think this one has.
It's from the Shorpy.com website, and I had to shrink it down from the full size so it wasn't 36 terabytes, (give or take a few kilobytes).

Have good memories of the car wash on Annandale Rd. When I was a kid my mom took our Pontiac Ventura there. The car came off the track and hit the wall. Owner said the damage was small potatoes. Think it wound up costing him more than he thought. Place was next store to BK Root Beer which is now a kabob house

At the time this photo was taken, the DMV didn't issue titles to carriages, so the year it was built wasn't recorded.

I had a 1976 Audi Fox in 1978 and a 1977 Audi Fox in 1979. The four cylinder 1.6L was good for mileage. I once logged 400 miles on about 12.5 gallons of gas.

Photo of Tysons Galleria (Tysons II). I'm not sure when this photo was taken, but it looks like it was taken between the late 1980s and the early 1990s. I'm pretty sure there was a Burger King on that old food court on the Third Floor.

Remember Transpo 72?

From wiki,
"U.S. International Transportation Exposition, better known as Transpo '72, was a trade show held on 300 acres (1.2 km2) of land at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. for nine days from May 27 to June 4, 1972. The $10 million event, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation"

It's interesting to note that just as in the growth of tree branches, some new ideas wither and die while others remain healthy and move forward.

^posting that picture with no VWs proves nothing. I’m pretty sure it’s just parked out of view. Anyway, there’s got to be one out there somewhere... somewhere...

Don Dotson is the owner of these pictures, Thanks Don!
My older sister bought her first brand new car here, a 1973 Gold Duster with a slant 6.

Help me understand the vantage point of this pic, and what's "70S"?

Not sure about the vantage point, but I think 70S was the I-70 "Spur" now known as I-270.

"Help me understand the vantage point of this pic, and what's "70S"?"

My guess is that the pic was taken on route 95 northbound at the capitol beltway, a early version of the Springfield mixing bowl. I think 70s was a earlier version of what we now know as I-270. I don't know for sure though.

I-70S was to join I-95 D.C. but there was a decision made not to extend the interstates into the District. The connection would have prevented much of the traffic gridlock we experience today in Tyson's Corner / Montgomery County areas.

The picture was taken in in the Springfield Mixing Bowl back in the spring of 1972

Nice trash can with the vintage "Pitch In!" logo featured in that Transpo '72 picture.

Anyone remember the blue ones that used to be in DC in the '70s and '80s that used the same logo but said "Can It!"

Thanks for the Annandale pictures, does anyone have any older ones of the Annandale Methodist Chapel at Columbia Pike where Gallows Road begins?

The original building was burnt during the war, and as I understand it, one of the Union soldiers who did it felt bad about it. He came back and helped rebuild it after the war and became the preacher.
