This young man has been trouble since he was in my child's 6th grade class. While plenty of teens do dumb stuff -- especially where alcohol is involved -- most are still good kids at heart. I haven't heard the same about this individual. The comments made through the years are more about meanness and downright bad character than issues with substances. Unfortunately, at LBSS star athletes are protected to the extreme especially when their daddies have influence (to the tune of a $200k contribution to the turf field). Unfortunately, coddling a troubled young man and helping him avoid consequences and counseling only served to put off his day of reckoning. Unfortunately for him, now he's of legal age and facing much more serious penalties than he would have as a juvenile.
If you believe that at some level all kids want to be good, but some just require more adult oversight and hands on care to be that way, I feel sorry for him. And for parents out there whose kids struggle because they are not academically gifted or one of the star athletes, here's proof that character counts in real life.
