I agree, way to overpriced, especially as its a MACHINE that is serving you. 4 bucks for 1 oz of wine is way to much. go to any restaurant and you can try any wine for free.

I would only go there again to drink a bottle that was good value.

Tuesday night is a great night to go, 50% off wine. The service is quick and the people are friendly. Nice place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.

Perhaps it's not the venue that stinks, but your attitude.

The owner is an asshole...that much is for sure.
And, he's a Cubs fan.
Would you want to go in business with someone who went 102 years without winning?

Church Street Cellars no longer has half-price Tuesdays, and now the place is empty. Their prices are absurd, and the employees that were there at the time knew virtually nothing about the wines they sold... I didn't have a ghastly experience, but nothing compells me to come back.

I went once last year - the atmosphere and food were fine, but I agree on the overpricing. $8 for a half-glass of wine and $4 for a sample is a little crazy, IMO. I think it was like $15-20 for a full glass.

Wine Street Cellars is a bit of a let down. I have been 3 or 4 times. I have yet to find a wine I like. Their selectios are quite narrow. And the prices are outrageous. I think they have to charge high prices to pay for the silly automated serving machine (a cute waitress would be much better and cost less) and I imagine the rent is out of this world. Still, I suspect they will be around for a while. There are a lot of pretentious snobs in Fairfax who will pay the price.

Agree with the overall feeling of this thread. I live in Vienna, and Church Street Cellars looked like a cool place to hang for a glass of wine. But one visit was enough. The prices were high, which I could understand on some level, it's a business and the rent is probably very high. The automated pouring machines are momentarily interesting if you have never seen a system like that in action before. Our food was inedible, and probably the worst food I have been served by an establishment in a decade, just awful. The owner seemed pretentious and rude. It wasn't a welcoming place at all, and it seemed like an imposition just to get an employee to explain the system to us,and then it was done in a begrudging manner. The food, the service, and the self-important attitude of some, not all, of the employees/owner, was enough for me and my wife to agree, we would never spend a dime in that place again. And if anyone asks I freely recount my one miserable experience CSC, where the other patrons were more helpful than the people who worked there. Usually,I would give an establishment a second chance, but there was so much wrong during our only visit... you can't buy that kind of bad advertising.

I think it's closed! Surprised it took so long.
