It was pretty ironic. The "Best of" yesterday was from the first couple of weeks of the new show. He was talking about the overwhelmingly positive response he had received. He also had Beth Ann on for most of the show and he was bragging about the podcast being 10th in the nation. Too bad podcasts don't pay the sales department's salaries.

Don Geronimo is getting married. They are on "Best Of" because Mike is attending and the wedding is out of state.

On Monday, Mike said that they would be in on Wednesday to talk about St. Patricks day. I think if he was going to a wedding he wouldn't have said he was going to be in on Wednesday. Mike is just being a Golden Boy and looking for ways out of work.

Normally when a wedding is on a weekend, people travel on a Friday...even for weddings that are "out of state."

If you listened on Tuesday, they said they would be in on Wednesday to talk about the party at Finnegans. Then later in the show they said they wouldn't be in if they got "too drunk".

Since today's show was going to be abbreviated/canceled due to the Maryland NCAA game, MOM figured he could get super-duper fucked up on Tuesday, and blow off Wednesday, get Thursday off and call in sick of Friday. No wonder that cluster-fuck of a show is at the bottom of the PPMs!

That's typical of Hughes/WJFK: Don't announce a program schedule, leave the ever-decreasing audience in the dark to realize you are running repeats and drive them to your competiton! Fuckin' brilliant!

Sounds about right. Though in Mike's defense (never thought I would write that), if he knows he is getting shit-canned anyway, I wouldn't blame him for blowing off the show.

Yeah, it really doesn't seem as if there's a sense of urgency there. I can see taking Thursday and Friday off for the wedding, but Wednesday as well? At least they'd have something to talk about, re: the grand party @ Finnegan's. It would be nice to get a report of what went down that evening!

If a format flip is pending, the only happy people at WJFK will be the sales staff.

They'll have something new to sell, instead of the dried up radio turds they've been saddled with this past year!

For a group of people who despise the show so much, every one of you seems to know much of what goes on during the show. Don't even start with the "but I just tuned in for 5 minutes" bullshit..

If you hate the show so much, why do you care what O'Meara does anyway? If you truly hated the show, you wouldn't be listening and whatever they are doing would be the last thing on your mind as you go about your day.

Why don't you idiots just worry about yourselves and stop worrying about other people? If the show does get canceled, what will some of you obsess over?

Is that you Rob(b)? Look shithead, you don't need to listen to the MOM every minute to figure out what's going on - not much happens.

Because we can spend our time doing whatever the fuck we want, that includes hating on MOM if that's the case. You seem to have more of a problem with that than we do.

I can't speak for the others, but the only time I have made it a point to tune in to MOM in the past couple of months has been when Patton was on and St.Patricks day and I did listen to the entire shows even though they sucked. Go listen to the last half of the Patton show where a drunk, out of control Mike plays Buddy Rich the entire last segment. What a professional! I would have listened to the entire Wednesday show, but Mike wimped out. I really thought the St.Patricks day MOM was going to be good at some point, but I was wrong. It is time for Mike to be fired.

Well, if we do listen, apparently we are the only ones. Without us, Mike would be in 24th place instead of 22nd.

No. If we were indifferent we would tune out. Because we hate it, we are obsessed with it and its demise. Mike O'Meara is like our big fat drunken Irish Moby Dick.

Consider the possibility that some posting here may have had dealings with MOM and his merry band, either personally or professionally.

That's why I post. I won't be satisfied until I pull up to a stop light in Centreville and see a hulking bum approaching my car with a sign that says "Drunk DJ, Alcoholic, Homeless, Pleeze Help" and it's MOM.

I think most of us listen to the show: 1. Because there is nothing else on in that time slot & 2. The show sucks so bad that it's actually somewhat entertaining and 3. It gives us fodder to write about at this site, which is entertainment in itself.

Im a little scared what we'll all do when the MOM show is ditched. If the Junkies are still around, we'll probably shift more of our focus towards them. Maybe start over again with Peter Rosenberg.....

This guy makes a good point. However, I know Mike O'Meara and know what an asshole he is. It has been enjoyable reading all the posts on this website and reading all the criticisms for everything he does. My schedule doesn't allow me to listen to the show so coming to this site is the only way I can keep up with his demise.

My favorite posters are: dapjdj and WashingtoneLocian. I hope the website stays up after the show gets canned and it would be funny to see Mike holding up a Homeless sign at the corner of Constitution and 23rd NW.

What is great is that this website is documenting what kind of bullshit Mike O'Meara pulls and when you google Mike O'Meara or Mike O'Meara show, this website comes up within the top 5 listings.

This isn't like the old days when you were judge by your demo tape and a few reference letters, now your history is online for everyone to see the truth.

Mike can leave WJFK, but his crappy performance is documented on the web for all future employees to see.

People bitched about Don, too, but nothing like this. There were times when Don went on his rants about Freda and management where it got a little old. And he did have his "punt" segments like "Celebrity Jeopardy" and "Open Phone Lines." But for the most part, Don tried. He really tried to put on a good show. He actually cared for the most part, and it showed.

This guy is all wrong - I believe that most people are big Don and Mike fans who are frustrated by what's happened to the show since he left.

I enjoy reading this site everyday because I liked Don but never liked Mike. Also, I get a big kick out of the Carla put-downs.

I'm all wrong, because I like the show. And apparently so do MANT others judging by how hard it is to get through on the phone lines.
AND

I don't know where you are all getting the show is getting the axe info from, but if it does get the axe, it's not because of Low ratings or because it's a bad show.
Radio is changing and my morning show just got ganked off the air . Adam Corolla was getting huge ratings with a huge following, and they got ganked for top 40. it could happen to MOM, but his show is still great.
I'm listening to podcast of best of right now.

I go to DCRTV.com when I feel the urge to hate on D&M, or to point out what real limp-dicked Jack Diamond wannabe MOM turned into.

Again, I'm only perplexed by the fact that so many people will devote so much time to ripping a radio program. I'm guessing that these folks aren't doing a lot of dating. The show will either survive or it won't. In any case, it won't have anything to do with what a bunch of bridge trolls post on the internet. I guess I'll have to slink away from this board, too ashamed to return.

First, she appears to have nice calves and nice abs. Second, there is something dirty about a half naked girl on the john with a cigarette and rum. Third, the gal appears to be a little bit wall-eyed. There may be an altruistic urge to try to straighten them out Vis-à-vis a thorough pounding.

Oh, if only this turns out to be true.

Mike's a big guy, but he was probably drinking at work on Tuesday. Then he probably downed a few drinks before he hit "Finnegan's" and pounded down beer and whiskey 'til 10 to 11.

Then he hit a bar on the way home to the loverly Carlita.

After a few more drinks, knocking him out probably wouldn't have taken too much effort.

But, if the KO did occur, all props to the bartender!!

Knowing MOM, I doubt he'd post here personally. You see, that would require some effort. "Effort" on any level is way out of the MOM comfort zone.

My feeling is that he dispatched his butt-boy Rob(b) to do the dirty work in concert with butt-girl Beth Ann and a couple of interns.

That explains why the "attack" was so half-assed, half-hearted and lacking in any irony, humor, invention or stamina.

Damn!! I just described the Mike O'Meara Show!!

You can be assured it wasnt just a rumor. He was at City Tavern in Manassas after Finnigans and tried to be flashy to the bartender with his Rolex and credit cards and John (the bartender) jumped over the bar and hit him. He didnt hit the ground only because some high top tables caught his fall.

That's a pretty small bar in a pretty small town. Surprised there isn't more on the blogosphere about it. If the bartender bitch-slapped him, everyone in the bar would know it.

Needless to say Mike scared off everybody around him and was pretty much sitting be himself.

Well, they do talk about somebody getting hit. There's also mention of "O'Hara's". Point is, the discussion is so vague and inside it's hard to figure out what event is being discussed.

I for one hope to see some more details.

It's late on St. Patrick's Day. A well-known local DJ is in a small bar in Manassas...in a part of the city with only four or five bars and with cops all around. The well-known local DJ gets popped in the face by the bartender and....no coverage whatsoever.

Not on RadioGodsForum

Not on DCRTV

Not in Reliable Source

Not in any of the blogs out of Manassas

Nothing.

Latest from DCRTV - I thought it deserved it's own thread

MO'M Punched In Bar? - 3/20 - We're told that Mike O'Meara was punched at a Manassas bar on St. Paddy's Day evening by a bartender. Could that be why his WJFK afternoon show was in rerun mode the following day? Stay tuned.....

This is pretty close. Ouch!

MO'M Vows That JFK Show Will Continue, Wishes Don Well On Wedding - 3/20 - On today's WJFK show, Mike O'Meara (right) sent his "best wishes" to his old radio partner, Don Geronimo, on the eve of latter's wedding, up in NYC this weekend. After Geronimo retired from the show last April, "He went his way, I went my way," O'Meara confessed on today's show. "Don wasn't the only one unhappy during those last years. It was not a happy time... It was OK that he was moving on." O'Meara added that, since the split, he's had "a good time" doing the show with the old crew. And O'Meara assured his listeners that his show will remain on WJFK despite many rumors of a format flip at the CBS station. "Are we going away on April 1st, as has been rumored? Of course not." By the way, Geronimo has said that he's sitting out his current CBS Radio contract, and may get back into the radio biz next year.....

"Of course not," my ass.

MOM's blather really begs all sensibility.

Ummm, let's see: CBS Radio is in the midst of a financial crisis and a severe revenue crunch nationwide.

In response to that challenge, CBS will continue to forge ahead with no changes to a major market station two spots from the bottom of the PPM ratings.

Oh well, you've got Michael Hughes and boy wonder CK at the helm, those idiots probably think the **higher** your ratings number the better you are doing.
#1=bad, #22=really good!

That is a pretty tacky thing to do Mike, I thought you were a bigger person than that. You could have at least waited until after the wedding. Interesting. The clip was replaced for a while with the intro music. I just listened back to it, and it seems like the part where Mike is saying the show is going to go on is no longer there. Am I just imagining that that portion is no longer there?

Haven't you all figured out who this site works yet? To those of you out there defending the show, or rightfully questioning why there are so many haters and they are so quick to throw a bunch of crap out there...

There's about 10-15 retards who hate the show. So they talk about how terrible it is, talk about how untalented everyone is on the show, trumpet a bunch of fake dates and garbage website rumors about when the show is going off the air and when the station is flipping formats...and then those dates come and go and the show stays on the air and there are still 50 million times different callers then there are different posters on here...and this is the point where the 10-15 angry haters will assume I am Mike or Rob or one of the Junkies and try and discredit my point.

I live in Philly, I listen on the podcast. I love the show. It's fuckin terrific. Far better then anything else on the air, on satellite, anywhere. The 10-15 people that blather on here seem to know every detail. Cuz they listen. Every day.

There was no fight. There is no station flip. Putting it in caps doesnt make you right - you weren't there. Cuz you are a lying pigfucker.

Get used to it, fuckers, the show isn't going anywhere. Good thing for you, because you would be back stuck wishing you had a tenth of the money, talent, job security or women that the Mike O'Meara show cast has. It's entertaining reading the stupid hate...and on April 1st and April 2nd and every day thereafter when the show is still on and still quality the losers on here will have 8 million other excuses to convince themselves of while their sad little pathetic lives have meaning.

Still listening, still enjoying, and still loving the fact that just like every other time, the losers on here are oh so wrong. All 10 of them.

The opening segment of Friday's show was, yes, pathetic. Buzz, MOM and Rob(b) agreeing they've done a great show, everyone loves them, and they are all comfy and cool with Donnie G.

Well, I call "bullshit" on that 10 minutes of self-serving radio. (But I give props to JFK for posting it on the 'net for posterity.)

I ain't buying it MOM.

MOM, you really come off as the most self serving, indulgent, agenda-driven prick on local radio.

The guy is obviously pissed. "Robb tells me a small group is going to the wedding" and "Don decided it was best not to associate with us and we decided it was best not to associate with him."

You know what happened? Mike learned from DCRTV that Donnie is getting married and he BLEW A FUCKING GASKET! That is why he wasn't on the radio Wednesday. He was pissed, and so were the other guys, that THEY weren't invited to the wedding.

Now, granted, I think it is kind of shitty of Don not to invite these guys that he had worked with for so long, regardless of how things we toward the end. But Mike going on and bashing Don and acting like not being invited to the wedding was somehow Mike's idea is just absolute BULLSHIT!

Well Mike is about to lose one long time fan going back to the WAVA days. I really think it is B.S. for Mike to be pulling a stunt like this 24 hours before Don getting married. Mike shows his true colors and in a typical Golden Boy moment tells us that yes, Don lost Frieda – but Mike, Robb, and Buzz were unhappy and more upset at that time and were the bigger victims. Then, as if to try and prove his point, he does a typical D.J. tease and tells how Robb has his own tragedy that happened just 7 days after Frieda’s death and that the listener will hear all about it after they get back from their April vacation- so Stay Tuned!
Mike, you need to listen to someone who has listened to you since the WAVA days. You need to man up and apologize to Don on Monday. People asking you if you are going to Don’s wedding doesn’t give you the right to get on the radio the day before and do a B.S. attack on his character. You should have taken the higher road and either ignored it, or better yet you could have just said that Don wanted to have a small wedding with a few close friends and you weren’t invited but you wish him the best of luck.

I warn you now Mike, if you go down this road of trying to play the bigger victim (ala Golden Boy) and try and make Don the jerk, you will lose that battle and you will lose the few remaining listeners you have.

Robb, you trying to compare taking care of a sick elderly relative to Don losing Frieda is going to make you an asshole in a lot of people’s minds. Don’t let Mike use your personal tragedy for a post vacation D.J. tease.

Till now, I thought that Mike, Robb, and Buzz have handled the Don situation with a level of maturity and respect. You blew that on Fridays show. You need to apologize to Don on Monday and then you need to get back to doing your show.

absolutely. Mike kept saying that he understood Don's decision, but he never said what I wanted him to say...ie, "He is MY FRIEND, and he needs to celebrate this special time with his family. I don't think that it's my place to be there at this point, but I look forward to celebrating with them later."

that's all he should have said. period.

The truth is that if the roles were reversed Don would have made DJ gold out of it and bitched a blue streak! I would have loved that. MOM is not that brave or honest. Hell Don would have called to find out why he was not invited - he would have been an open and honest prick about it - great radio. Instead they all semi-complained and sniveled - not good radio. Rob sucks so hard I cant stand it anymore. I dont feel sorry for that fat fuck because he had some family friend get sick or die or whatever. Fuck him. Concerning this whole tension issue... I do think deteriorating working conditions and personality clashes were well in place just before Donny G split. If you listened to Don's swan song, remember how he spent a few minutes with each cast member on air and gave each a break down? His last on air words to Mike were effectively (paraphrased from memory):

Buzz, you're harmless. I gave you your big break. keep on truckin'.

(Here begins the divide and conquer)
Rob(b), Best friend. Pal. Buddy. BFF. Best friend. You have the best children ever. I am proud to be godfather to your babies. Best friend. Made me laugh when I was bleeding. Best friend. Pal 'o' mine. Buddy. Pal. Good Guy. Short of lover. Pal. Adonis. You are there for me in a way Mike could never imagine or could be. Pal. Best friend. Thank you. I love you. Son, brother, soul mate. Pal. PAL. I love you.
{Rob(b)'s shaky, week kneed, trembling, refrains of I love you toos.}

Mike I was worried about you, but more case in point your daughters because I think you are a shitty dad, and your girls are getting fragged every time you detonate... but I think you might be OK. Good luck to you, see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya, bicycle!

I wonder how much the factor of Mike deciding not to call it quits made Don feel slighted in a way. Wasn't there an excess of bad blood between Big O and Dukes, and some of the Junkies vs. Don?
Wasn't there a time where Don would have put a hit on Dukes if he could of? Did Don move the show to Rockville because he could not stand the other personalities at 10800 Main? Does anyone have this backstory?

Notice how Mike is making it appear that BO&D are effectively 'under his wing', and have his full endorsement? Mike has really developed a special affinity for Dukes. This has to have rubbed Don to some degree.

I think there were some truly uncomfortable post-Don moments. I remember the day of Mike's first show, he popped up on the Junks' show to pimp. You could almost taste the awkwardness in that room. Mike even admitting that he never envisioned the scenario of appearing on their show to promote his. The Junks' carried themselves as alpha during that scene, and I think it was not unjustified.

I would love to know some of the history we never hear.

It's funny. I remember Don and Mike talking about Brian and O'Brien when their show in Baltimore imploded. It turned out the guys hated each other for years and were even in separate studios for many of their shows. I recall Don and Mike talking about how sad that was and how they would never work together if it got to that point. They must have been lying through their teeth.

On another note,
Has anyone else noted how much Buzz has developed his on air persona on David Letterman's existence? IMO it is bordering on pathology; primary and secondary ego-diffusion. Buzz' whole affect, his phrasing, and even the cadence of his voice is some imitation of David Letterman.
It is also glaringly obvious that most of Buzz' news is ripped from Drew Curtis' Fark.com. The worst part is that it is day-old fark, which is analogous to dog-years. Buzz even uses fark meme's most notibly "You're not doing it right". What is next? Buzz' Caturday on Friday? If he is going to steal from Fark, at least steal from that day's headlines. If anyone on Mike's staff knows about that, and allows it to happen, it is just really indicative of not giving a fuck.

My take is, what made D&M a successful show is that there was an edge. It was more of an honest show. There was a chance that something interesting might happen. If there is one thing that I never really got into about D&M is when they included people from around the JFK offices on the show. Going into detail with salespeople and general office crap. To me that is what always derailed the show. What D&M had going for it is that it was truly personality driven, and subject to Don's mood. It was willing to self destruct, but in a good way. Don always took chances.

Mike's show is becoming increasingly guest driven. Isn't it a given that there will be a few guest spots every show? An author, a 2nd tier comic, or rolling out the red carpet for Patton O, and treating him with an inexplicable reverence. Instead of an active forum for the hosts, it is reactionary, based on the guests. Drinking Fridays is becoming a safe zone, as if the concept that they are getting buzzed is revolutionary radio. In that vein, Buzz is also a safe zone. Entirely predictable. Buzz has become as middle of the road as a person can be. Entirely safe. Rob(b) is channeling Ed McMahon. Guffawing at Mike's every utterance, funny or not, and dare not contradicting him. I think there have been a few shows where it could be intoned from Mike's voice or reaction to Rob(b) that Rob(b) iritates Mike to some degree.
The interactions that Mike, Rob(b) and Buzz have with each other are becoming increasingly formulaic. Mike makes statement, Rob(b) laughs, Buzz agrees. Rinse. Repeat. Mike also does not have the edge that he used to have on D&M, he is playing it safe, and dares not to offend. The contests that rely on listeners to call in are becoming predictable, and no one gets hurt. On D&M, the games there were well thought out, and made for interesting radio. I think calls are screened intensely so as not to throw Mike, and on the oft chance a listener gets through and gives an unexpected response or dissenting voice, Mike seems unnerved.
So how to sum up what is wrong wit MOMS:
-plays it safe, and safe zones
-Rob(b) and Buzz, entirely predictable
-relies heavily on guests
-Yes Man syndrome
-trying too hard to be nice
-relies on lazy formulas: "Comedian, you drive!", Drunk Friday
-a general vibe that something is missing and unsaid

That's because he is lazy. Most PR people write up the questions for interviews. Beth Ann obviously books whatever dreck walks in off the streets, so there is no effor there, either. Mike really has one of the laziest, most boring shows I have ever heard.

Here are the segments:

1st Hour: Let's eat food and talk about what we are eating. Is it funny? No. But let's do it anyway.

2nd Hour: Let's do an interview with someone you either have never heard of or who you haven't heard of in 20 years (e.g. Kevin Meaney). Most radio interviews last 5 minutes. We'll stretch it out to 45 minutes.

3rd Hour: Let's play the Power of 10 (or some variation of it).

4th Hour: Let's let Buzz read what he has found on Fark.

Whenever there is a gap, you get:

Rob(b) saying, "Who are you."

Buzz making an unwitty, obvious observation, "Kevin Meaney has a name that sounds kind of like Kevin James, but isn't."

Beth Ann (thank God she isn't on anymore).

Mike says something that isn't funny in the least and Rob(b) guffaws like it is the funniest fucking thing he has ever heard.

In the spirit of WashingToneLocian's post... stereotype a day of a JFK show.
Junkies:

Segment 1:
JP does cheat sheet, top story economic crisis. The boys complain that somehow their 6 figure salaries are no enough. Bickle buys another TV. Lurch does not sleep with wife. Somehow JP is alienated from the other 3. Cakes tries to appear likeable.

Segment 2:
Lurch loves sports. They talk about the Capitals. EB buys another TV, claims brothers are funnier than white people. JP is alienated from the other 3. Cakes speaks in nothing but junk's slang. Claims his wife is money or silly.

Segment 3:
Brett comes in. They talk of his disdain for ethnic women, and his love of dipping sauce. Brett says something would be money if it happened a certain way. Cakes agrees says'"Vmoney". JP bickers with EB, feels alienated. CK spouts something, and dares them to imagine a cure for HIV. Lurch does not have sex. can't remember the last time he thought about it. They come to the consensus despite their high salaries, they are just regular guys.

Segment 4:
Calls. A black guy calls in. The 4 agree that blacks are superior to whites, and somehow they are all hurting compared to the caller. This call leads to an invention of another catch phrase "canned soup".

Segment 5:
Calls about soup. Brett has never had soup. CK happens to be eating cream of mushroom. Jp is above soup. Cakes claim to be in possession of "A money Metal soup can".

Segment 6: BDK comes in studio. They abuse him, rape him with soup can. The conversation devolves to a string of the single word "Rick". Nothing but "Rick" is said for 5 minutes. Cakes claims something is "RRRRRRickKKK". JP does not participate.

Segment 7:
Lurch leaves early. More talk about black people. Cakes says,"Awwwwww soup can! Rickkkk!". EB buys another flat-screen, cries poor. Cakes puts the the furniture in station green room on E-bay, which he calls,"Money Cakes-Bay soup can RRRick!". Justifies action by claiming that their net worth has declined in the past year.
Cakes says,"Cakes no-money cash rick souprick can ricky, metal Cakes-Bay, Rick!"
They all agree. Lurch calls from 66 east, claims traffic is,"Definately soup can".

Nice analysis of the last day (Don with Robb vs. Don with Mike)...I felt the same way listening to it.

Would love to hear this too. Judging by the way Dukes talks openly about having idolized Don and Mike growing up listening to JFK (and more recently, has talked about Don sending direct replies to a couple of Chad's Twitter messages), they have probably done whatever hatchet-burying needed to happen.

Can't tell if the "love" for Mike is genuine or not. Lately it sounds REALLY fake between the two of them.
