First, all QBs are "system guys." Look at Favre in NY versus Favre in Minnesota. And what do you think Tom Brady would look like in Jacksonville instead of Foxboro? He'd play like David Gerard.
Second, McNabb was a veteran QB with certain strengths and weaknesses. The idea that you would pay top dollar to a guy and then try to change the way he plays the position is ludicrous. Look at Favre and his "dancing feet." That's terrible QB technique, but only an idiot coach would try to change that in an established veteran player.
As for Beck, how does it improve his confidence when you tell the press "it's his job to lose," and then he supposedly loses it? It's the ultimate fuck up, isn't it? I mean, isn't it better to say, "We like what we've seen from Beck and think he could start, but we really want to go through the preseason to see which QB will work best going into the season."
But that's not what they told key reporters at ESPN and SI. What they told them was, "Beck has the job, unless he fucks up."
If psychology is at work it, Shanny is a terrible psychologist.
