Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
My car overheated, i know there is a leak, poured water and coolant and now wont start. The car literally just stop and wouldn't accelerate and just shut off. Any suggestions as to what the problem is. Im hoping its just the hose and not something more serious.
Blown gasket? Water from cooling channels into combustion/oil channels.
Blown water pump? No coolant circulation, severe overheat, seize.
Blown oil pump - no oil? Severe overheat, seize.
=========
My ancient (13+years, 150,000+ miles) car overheated - pretty sure it was the water pump. I parked it at Lowes, Route 50 (steaming), called up "Give Us Your Car" charity (don't remember the name), they came out, towed it away, gave me a receipt a week or three later for $800-ish (the price it got sold at auction). I'm sure the buyer just fixed it up (or parted it out) since it was otherwise in okay shape.
I wouldn't hesitate to do the same thing again - no worries at all about getting an expensive fix right waiting for the NEXT thing to fail.
It's possible your coolant temperature sensor is bad. (This can also happen if your car severely overheats.)
I vaguely remember this being the problem with my ex-girlfriend's car. The sensor went bad after it overheated and no matter what the thing would not start.
The coolant temperature sensor is also called the "master sensor", because it controls so many functions of a modern engine.
I'd suggest having someone with a diagnostic computer check your car. I'm sure someone can recommend a good mechanic to you.
hopefully you didn't burn poston rings or blow a headgasket like i did :(
Temporary fix/worth a shot- add some barrs stop leak, add antifreeze, then try again. If it still won't start or stay not leaking then i'm guessing your headgasket is shot. Do you have tons of white smoke?
and "got no clue"- I will remember that tip the next time my hoopty breaks down and I know it will be a $500+ repair- at least I can get a tax credit for it instead of paying a tow bill for a car i have no intentions of fixing/keeping :)
96 mazda protege, 155K miles on it. My gas was nearing E and Im assuming the last oil change was last year. The car probably did 1000 miles in one year. I rarely use it.

LOL, you should still change the oil every six months even if you do very little driving. A car that is only driven very short distances is very hard on the engine.

find a girlfriend and quit being so gay.
naw, this is what you do...
look under the car for indications of any leaks. if you sea a pool of liquid, stick your finger in it and smell it to identify what it is. while doing this inspect the radiator and the hoses connecting to the radiator. if no visible damage is seen, then its probably something else. check all the other fluids in the car to make sure they are filled to the correct level (including the DISTILLED water in the battery). it may be something fuel related because of the lack of being able to accelerate. a simple check would be to check the spark plugs, see if they are dirty or even firing. right now im watching CMT and there is something about pigs on. i am currently drinking jack and coke out of a burger king cup. what i might suggest is that you take the car to a auto mechanic. they should know a little more than us folks here on teh interwebs. love ya, sorry you read this.

It means that it is obvious how much you post and troll anonymously. You are too stupid and absent minded to know that your inane posts stick out like a sore thunb.

This is common knowledge to anyone that has taken good care of their car. I hate to think how neglected your Chrysler Crossfire is.
