Meade's songs consist of doggerel lyrics set to banal melodies. Overall, they are completely forgettable. He has better luck with his 'novelty songs' but once the novelty wears off, they become as useless as the others.
Early on, there was enough there that he might have grown into a decent songwriter, I suppose, but that never really did materialize. No doubt due to Meade's lack of fortitude.
Here is the chorus of "Sweet Tea".
It isn't using 'sweet tea' as an allegory for "love". It is a song about loving Sweet Tea. And Meade wonders why people don't relate to it.
Will Meade be singing it after he comes down with adult-onset Type 2 diabetes?
"Sweet Tea, darlin' you and me.
Sip it slow and the world it stays
so sweet. Let's have some sweet tea.
Under the magnolia tree, I'm ready
for some sweet tea, sugar down on me."
I suppose there could be a debate that someone who has never been in love could not possibly write a relatable love song...
