You're supposed to give your real name, but Youtube takedown requests are automated, and the process will go forward even if you don't.
There is no identity verification at either the notice or the counter-notification stage.
Check out the complaints about people gaming the system because of the absence of verification procedures:

Eesh could have easily have posted the video under one youtube account, and then sent a takedown notice for that video, starting here:

LEGAL LIABILITY FOR ASSOCIATING "CAAN" WITH A REAL-LIFE PERSON?
There are several places on this thread where eesh connects the username "Caan" with the real-life Nokesville man mentioned on
the Hickerson thread.
Caan's scurrilous behavior - his repeated references to defecating on a Virginia grave, among many other things - make this connection at least arguably defamatory (as discussed
here), raising the possibility of a defamation suit against Michael Basl.
Such a claim would be similar to the one attorney Andi Geloo recently brought against FU posters
"fur" and friends.
Although Ms. Geloo had a rather weak claim, that didn't stop her from suing, and in the process punishing the anonymous posters who called her "fat Paki," etc., to the extent that they had to pony up several thousand bucks for a defense attorney.
Thus, although Ms. Geloo did not ultimately prevail in her claim, she did succeed in punishing her critics, and in a way, one suspects, that probably had a permanent effect on their behavior.
Similarly, the real-life person whom eesh associated with "Caan", and/or his family, appear to be well-positioned to punish Basl for his ill-considered antics by bringing a defamation claim.
Even our beloved administrator, Cary - Mr. FU himself - agrees with and encourages this course of action:
If anyone has been personally defamed, harassed or
libeled by any user,
I implore you to press suit
or swear out a criminal complaint.
It's a win-win situation.
The Hickersons, et al., will win, and the FU community will win.
Indeed, even eesh/Michael Basl will win. For the punishment he will receive is not only well-deserved, it will also have the effect of changing Basl's outward behavior -- of transforming him into a closer approximation of a good citizen.
Which will make the
world a better place.
In short -- what better New Year's resolution could anyone have?
Heed Cary's words, and talk to your attorney soon.
Sue Mike Basl, and make 2015 the best year ever!
