Its almost that time again. Nothing against the pros but I would rather watch a college game.
Who do you root for?
I am a Michigan fan. Its going to be an interesting yr in the big 10.
Meeper,
Penn St, Wisconsin, Illinois, all looking good this yr. Rebuilding yr for Mich. I will be happy with 7 wins. Next yr Rich R will take this team to a BSC game.

I root for USC and Navy and against Notre Dame (actually, against that fraud Charlie Weis). With any luck, fat-ass will completely implode this year and be ridden out of South Bend on a rail.
Yeah, I kinda think Penn State will be duking it out with Wisconsin for the title. It's a road game against the Badgers this year, that makes it tougher, but at least Illinois has to play in Happy Valley. It sucks that they close the season against Michigan State, that's a tough way to end the season and the pressure will be on. Should be an interesting year. I'm always just satisfied with winning a bowl game.
Only a few short weeks and the Nittany Lions will be facing the vaunted Coastal Carolina football juggernaut, LOL....
(I also share WashingTone's hatred of Notre Dame!)

Weis can only win when his QB is named Brady.
Actually, notice how New England imploded after they lost Weis's offensive genius? Oh yeah...THEY DIDN'T!
Not to be a contrarian or anything but Ive always rooted for Notre Dame. But yeah I love me some college foosball man. Love it when an appalachian state can hose a Michigan or a USC juggernaught can lose a bowl game to uh those guys that I cant remember right now. Anyway I just watch a game thats interesting pick a team in a totally arbitrary way and enjoy!

Mason is actually bigger in undergrad and total enrollment than UVA. Actually, JMU, VCU and especially VT are larger in undergraduate enrollment. That being siad, I wouldn't be surprised to see them build a program the way Georgetown did a few years back.
Speaking of college football, has there been anymore word on the Congressional Bowl? I heard it would be a service academy (Navy or Army) versus an ACC team and would be at Natonal's Park or RFK. The only problem is both teams would need to be bowl eligible. Given the number of bowls these days, not sure you can guarantee there would be two teams from the service academies and ACC that could participate.
The proposed Congressional Bowl took a major step toward becoming a reality on Monday when it signed an agreement with the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Sean Metcalf, co-founder of the District of Columbia Bowl Commission, confirmed today that he has nailed down a deal to have the ACC fill a slot for the annual bowl. Plans call for a service academy to fill the other slot with the Naval Academy having already signed a contract to appear in the inaugural Congressional Bowl in 2008. Metcalf is close to signing an agreement with Army and also would like to get Air Force involved.
“I am extremely pleased the ACC has agreed to become involved with the Congressional Bowl. It was really the last piece of the puzzle,” Metcalf said.
News of the ACC’s commitment enabled ESPN to sign an agreement to televise the fledgling bowl, which is slated to be held on Dec. 20 at either RFK Stadium or the new Nationals Park. Metcalf said the D.C. Bowl Commission can now move forward with filing an application with the NCAA for certification as a postseason contest.
The NCAA requires prospective bowls to have guaranteed opponents, a TV contract, venue and a letter of credit. Metcalf said all those elements are in place, including documents proving the proposed Congressional Bowl can meet its mandate of paying $1 million to each participating school.
Now, that being said, the bowl eligible component is tough.

There's a reason you can't remember,
Since 02 the only bowl USC has lost was to Texas in the championship 2005.
2007 Rose Southern California 49, Illinois 17
2006 Rose Southern California 32, Michigan 18
2005 Rose Texas 41, Southern California 38
2004 Orange Southern California 55, Oklahoma 19
2003 Rose Southern California 28, Michigan 14
2002 Orange Southern California 38, Iowa 17
The last bowl game Notre Dame won was in 94.
Congrats on having THE highest paid coach in college football and your worst season in school history.
I like Ohio State. One of the head football coaches there was my high school social studies teacher. His name was Earle Bruce. he wasn't the one who hit a kid though. That was Woody Hayes.
Muck Fichigan!

First the "Bowl Game" that USC lost was the national Championship Game. And it will go down in history as one of the greatest College Bowl games ever.

I just hope the stress doesn't cause Weis to let himself go.
Notre Dame has the most consensus national championships and has produced more All-Americans than any other Football Bowl Subdivision school. Additionally, seven Fighting Irish football players have won the Heisman Trophy.
USC 7 national titles
ND 11 National Titles
ND All-time record 824–278–42 (.739)
USC All-time record 753–302–54 (.721)
The first USC football squad (1888). Before they were nicknamed the "Trojans", they were known as the USC Methodists.
I can Google stats too and make my team seem better as well. Oh and wich one of those girls is tricki? HAWT!

USC also has seven Heisman winners (tied for most w/ ND and Ohio State).
Sorry your team hasn't been "better" than much since Holtz left.
You lost to Navy last year for the first time since '63. You had your worst season in history 3-9 (yes the 1888 team was better).
USC shut you out 38-0 at home last year.
You haven't had a bowl win in 14 years.

Would you rather have a mascot that is a leprechaun or a piece of rubber that catches Jizz and gets thrown away? tough choice.
OH yeah and Matt Lienert opted out of the NFL draft, Millions of dollars and ultimitly getting his girlfriend pregnant so he could take one more year, a LOSS in a bowl game and One last class wich was BALL ROOM DANCING.

Ah getting down the mascot now. Very nice.
Re Leinart. Well he won the Heisman and the BCS NC against Oklahoma the year before, and lost the second BCS NC he was in in literally the last minute. The year before that he won a rose bowl and got the AP NC.
Opting out of the NFL for millions of dollars? He was a first round draft pick and got a six-year, $51 million contract.
And how much did Brady Quinn get?
"Quinn signed a five-year deal with the Browns worth a reported $20.2 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed. He could make up to $30 million with incentives." =21 million less than Leinart.
So let's review,
Leinart = 3 BCS bowl appearances, 2 BCS wins, $21 million more than Quinn in the NFL and a Heisman Trophy. 1 BCS title, 1 AP title.
Quinn = 1 BCS bowl appearance where he lost.
You're starting to grasp at straws here...

You seem like one of those people who root for a team cuz they win win win all the time and have no other affiliation with said team. LIke a Yankees fan from deepest nebraska. Lighten up mojo

You forgot the part where, during the NFL Draft, Roger Goodell had Brady Quinn come to his suite as team-after-team passed him over in the draft.

Ah now the my feelings are hurt/bandwagon argument.
Sorry I have a lot of affiliation with said team and was born/lived in LA for 24 years. I have photos of me in USC garb before I could speak. I went to a lot of games during the Larry Smith/John Robinson/Hackett era where we did not win win win.
I think you should lighten up, nothing more that some spirited pre-season smack talk going on.

ok then fine. You give me no choice but to show that ND is number 2 ALL TIME winning. Thats right Notre Dame's all time record stands at 824 wins, 279 losses, and 41 ties. Its 824 wins are second only to Michigan and its 279 losses are the lowest of any college programs that have been playing football for 100 years or more. SO everyone. Lets hear it
>

I guess I don't follow ND enough to make that connection. All I know is a fat white guy has a worse record than their former black guy and they keep the fat white guy around.

In all fairness, national champions are determined by polls, not by playoffs. The whole process is susceptible to flaws like when President Richard Nixon influenced the polls back in '69 to give the tie-breaker to Texas instead of PSU.
It's a big beauty contest, there's no objective determination. You can't really say who is the greatest, because it's always been based on opinion. And Paterno has always advocated a true playoff system to help sort this shit out.
Penn State might not be the greatest of all time- but thou shalt not blaspheme JoePa!!! :)))
05 was a great year with Robinson, Hunt, Poz, Connor, etc but the past two years have been pretty lame (considering everyone considers the guy God's gift to football).
The recruiting has dropped off too. He lost both #1 overall recruit T. Pryor and #1 LB recruit Dorien Bell to Ohio State.
PSU will always be great, but it should be. Its a huge school with a large recruiting base. I just think Joe should fine his replacement soon to provide some direction for his program and future recruites.
