Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
The FBI and the U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man Friday after a lengthy investigation into an alleged plot to carry out a suicide attack on the Capitol. He was arrested near the Capitol, carrying with him a vest that he believed was packed with explosives, but the material had been rendered inoperable by law enforcement, officials said.
The FBI was searching his home this afternoon in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Channel 7 is saying that he had addresses in Alexandra and Arlngton. There was just live footage on CNN of FBI searching a residence (not sure if townhouse/apartment/house) in Arlington.

They were setting him up for over a year. His landlord reported him to the FBI for suspicious views. They could've just deported them as he had overstayed his visa. The risk is that they lose track and he does something like shoot up a government office.

In a test run under FBI supervision, he blew up a bomb vest in a WVa quarry. They later caught him walking to the Capitol with the fake bomb and a gun (not known whether it had real bullets). 50 yrs to life.
Arresting them when they merely take posession of the bomb vest is not as dramatic as when they go to their target, pull the trigger, and then stand in confusion as nothing happens and a SWAT team descends and arrests them.
Furthermore, they should capture the latter on video and post it on YouTube.

I'm sure Gerry will think of a reason to import more just like
him. You just can't have enough suicide bombers. That's diversity.
I'm not too woried about "terrorists" who get their bomb-making advice and materials from the FBI. The ones that worry me are the ones shopping on the world market where many types of HE is commonly available.Publicity stunts like this one catch disorganized losers -frequently mentally ill who can be manipulated into criminal acts by either crackpot clerics or self -aggrandizing law enforcement. Hopefully there are less public squads working against rational,
organized and truly dangerous threats to my children and yours.

This^^
Whoever this person was almost certainly had no operational links to any transnational jihadi organization, no training in explosives and therefor very little capacity to actually execute an attack. He seems to have just been rope a doped along by law enforcement agents, who, quite possibly caught on to him because his internet searches tripped up some security protocols.
This guy seems similar to that idiot that was busted in NY earlier this year who was posting about his pending attacks online. Truly stupid stuff here.

None of them have had real connections to terrorist organizations. They've let Islamic fanatics into the country for years with hopes of finding a mastermind or a sleeper cell. Hence the FBI/CIA/DHS has been touting lone wolf sting operations for the last three years.
They just screwed up someone's life so they can pad their resumes and their terrorism statistics. They could've just deported him and put him on the no-fly watch list.

Also similar to the "underwear bomber" , but it has never been explained why that guy ,whose father reported him to the U S embassy in Lagos Nigeria as preparing an attack was not thoroughly searched or denied boarding. More disturbing still are independent reports that a "middle aged gentleman in a suit" overrode concerns about this individual voiced by airline boarding gate personnel. Clearly ,in a case such as this something is up. That the most likely explanation is gross incompetence is not reassuring. That something more sinister may be afoot is concerning. Meanwhile , 1 oz shampoo bottle and nail file rules are strictly enforced . Is there something wrong with this scenario?
