Many surrounding counties schools are either closed or open late. Not on time. Check the Wash. Post.

I don't know, but I'd bet he makes well into the six figures.
People may think he just looks out the window at snow...but he is Asst Superintendant for Facilities and Transportation. That's a big job.
I don't know how many buildings make up FCPS...but there are over 200 elementary schools alone, and 25 high schools. Tistadt is in charge of the operation and upkeep of all of them.
Plus, there are almost 1600 school buses and 1200 drivers under his command.
He'll probably retire in the foreseeable future...if it's so cushy, you should apply for the job.
I am sure he has plenty of relatives, I mean assistants, on the payroll so he doesnt really break a sweat. You make it sound like the dude personally fixes every broken water fountain in the schools and changes tires all day on buses.
Stop being a suck up.
I am sure he is looking forward to retirement so he can spend more free time with his lovely wife.
You know, I have read most of Duh's posts about the school system and he is always correct. He is in the trenches, so to speak and he is only informing you guys of accurate info. If that's being a suck up, well so be it.
If you think Tistadt only looks out his window and watches the weather, you are way off base. His job is overseeing the buildings, grounds etc. He deserves the salary he earns.
How do you know he is "always" correct? I have friends that are teachers in the county and they all have the same complaint. Too many admin friends and relatives taking up the bulk of the school system budget.
If he cannot handle the pressure of his job he should leave, it is that simple. All he has to do is stand by his decisions. If the weather forecast is for ice and snow then close the schools. He can document his decision based on the last available forecast. Stop making excuses as to if he is right or wrong. Yes it is a big county and the weather can change from area to area.
Please do not give me the old tired "If I was in the private sector I could be making a lot more money". Fairfax employees have used that so many times it is getting quite old. If you were in the private sector you would also be held accountable for your actions and subject to being laid off at any time. That is the risk of private sector and higher pay is the reward. Besides when you count in retirement and benefits the public sector is on a par with private which sometimes has no retirement and very few benefits.
