I do hope centreville wins. But to say they are the best team ever to come out of this region is insane. Just ask for support and move on. Dont make up more lies on this site. Its already 90% bs anyway. Win a title for our area make this area proud.

No offense, I'm as happy as anyone at the success of the Centreville Wildcats, but this team isn't the "best team the Northern Region has ever had."

I think the first Westfield team that were state champs is the best team I've ever seen and a few other Westfield teams were better. The late '90's and early 2000's Robinson teams were better and I could argue that Centreville's state champs team was better.

After reading all of these comments about our school. The team works hard with the pressure maintaining a high academic average and the high expectation that the school has on them since (let's be honest) the rarity that they have made it this far. Our band and hype squad cheer them onto victory every game and I'll be more than proud to say this game was well worth attending.
First half
Our offense pulled off a double lateral play that confused hanovers defense and gave a huge gain which led to another touchdown. Say what you want about us being in division 5. I can clearly state this, No one cares. We can't control our student body numbers with our constant redistributing between hayfield and west Springfield. Nor do we ever care.

Though Centreville does have a solid squad this year...its not going to come near the top of best football teams in the area ever.

Centreville's 2000 squat shut out 8 teams....8, thats got to be close to a state record.

They buzzed through the region with very little problem, now they will play for the state title next week.

The region hasnt had a state title in a few years, so next week everyone should come to Charlottesville to cheer them on. How nice will that be to raise the championship trophy as a salute to the northern region

I'm just going to point out that this year's Cville team would have probably shut out 7 teams this season if their coaching didn't put in their third and second stringers by halftime.

I agree with WildcatMom this is the best team to ever come out of the Northern region. Look for multiple NFL players off this team in a few years.

They also have one of the finest coaching staffs in the state, they put this team together and it runs like a well oiled machine.

I hope everyone in the Northern region comes to UVa. to watch as Centreville brings the Championship home.

Centreville has had a great year no doubt but there have been a lot of outstanding Northern region teams - just within the Concorde District, 5 of the 6 teams have been to the Div. 6 Finals since 2000. Centreville (2000), Robinson (2001, 2004), Oakton (2002, 2005), Westfield (2003, 2007) and Chantilly (2006), with Centreville (2000), Robinson (2001), Oakton (2005) and Westfield (2003, 2007) winning the state championship.

Westfield was undefeated in 14-0 in 2003 and 15-0 in 2007 so I would think Centreville this year would have to rank beneath those 2 seasons.

> They buzzed through the region with very little

That's one way to look at it but they have narrowly squeaked by LB by 3, Westfield by 3, and now Hermitage by 1. The dominant teams of the past 10 years have had much more impressive playoff runs. The best Northern region team since 2000 - Westfield 2003 - had an average PLAYOFF Margin of Victory of 21.5 points. The Westfield 2007 state championship team had an average PLAYOFF Margin of Victory of 23.2 points. Centreville this year by comparison has an average PLAYOFF Margin of Victory of 7.5 points.

There's a site that has team RPIs since 1999.
http://www.vhsl-reference.com/

Here's their top 100 season rankings -
http://www.vhsl-reference.com/ratingsmainpage_team100.cfm

Westfield's '03 and '07 teams are 2nd and 4th overall.

This year's Centreville team is currently 28th, this year's Westfield team is 29th.

Centreville's 2000 defense hput their second and third string in games often in the middle of the 3rd quarter wen they were killing teams....and shut out 8 teams.

Centreville's 2011 squad has had a GREAT defense this year, but no shut outs...and little depth.

Saying this is the best team to come out of the Northern Region is a bold statement. Talent is different each year...and no doubt Centreville has the best talent this year...but them having multiple players going on to play in the NFL is a little premature...

# 4 Ken Ekanem is the only player I know of that has a D-1 scholarship this year.

Centreville's 2000 squad...

QB Nick Smith, Wake Forest
RB Kenneth Tynes, Virginia
CB Marcus Hamilton, Virginia
S Blake Warren, Virginia Tech
P Chris Hall, Florida State

DL Will Montgomery earned a scholarship as a walk on a Virginia Tech after moving to OL. He went on to the NFL, along with Hamilton.

However I do believe Ekanem has the talent to be the most recognized player to make the NFL from Centreville.

Take note NR coaches players should be selected based on what "They" did, not who they played or didnt play for.

GamedayMagazine.com will have the games live online. It's $15 for the VHSL Championship pass ... which I don't see as that expensive if you have a vested interest in one or more of the teams/games.

westfield gave centerville the district championship game. 3 interceptions + 1 lateral pass fumble + 1 roughing the kicker penalty + 1 blocked field goal = 6 major malfunctions and westfield still had an opportunity to win the game. centreville should simplay hope to win and realize they played a good season and they had major luck on their side as well against westfield. to say this team is the best ever from this region is absurd - something one would say who has no knowledge of football. objective facts folks, not pure emotion.

South County had a great year, but the best D5 football in this state is still played in the 757. Down there, you play tough teams and that gets u ready for whoever comes out of Northern VA. South County was almost all seniors. If South County can do well next year, and I hope they do, then the school will be on its way to building a program. I think South County was surprised in the first quarter to see that Phoebus had quite a defense of its own, but give South County credit for adjusting and having that awesome TD drive in the 2nd half. Phoebus gets credit for causing some of the turnovers and for getting big pass plays when needed. This South County team pushed them to the brink.

Yep, today both NR teams had trouble ajusting to the speed and intensity of the play that the ER teams brought to UVA today. However, the NR has brought some good teams in the past, including Robinson, Oakton, Westfield and Centreville in D6 and Stone Bridge in D5.

Centreville and South County deserve congrats for winning their region but it's starting to seem like the ER is the SEC and the NR is the ACC.

Don't you think it's a bit premature to make a statement like that? Eastern Region didn't even put a team in the Div. 6 State Finals the last 2 seasons (2009 & 2010). This is only the 3rd state title for the ER since 2000. NR has 6.

I hope the Northern region takes note of this.

You need to be able to throw the ball with consistency to compete with Eastern region teams, if not and you get behind you are toast.
As you could clearly see, Centreville's QB could not. He was athletic and very much a system QB and not a very good one. He had 22, 23 open but couldnt throw the ball.

In that conservative offense Centreville runs, as well as others in the Northern region, it doesnt require the QB to do much more then manage the game. Handing the ball off to a good running back is easy. That is all Centreville really had to do most of the year. When they got behind and the run wasnt working, the QB couldnt do anything. He threw 3 picks all year and 3 picks in this game alone.
Prepare your QB, that is a coaching mistake and not coaching them up.

I think Oscar Smith was very good, and would have beat anyone today.
However, the Northern region was exposed today, stop the run and most teams in that region cant throw.

Not a very good showing for the Northern region. Centreville sucks! South County is average.Neither would have done well in the Eastern region.

I dont see how anyone can say the Concord district in the Northern region is the best in the state.

The Beach, Eastern, Penninsula, Southeastern district are much more athletic and has better teams. Centreville would have never got out of the district in any of those.

Whats up with the Centreville superstar defensive player, a bruised knee and he sat out the rest of the game.

Let the eastern region talk shit, the fact of the matter is the D6 state championship has come from Northern Virginia (Northern or Northwest Region) in 2000 Centreville, 2001 Robinson, 2003 Westfield, 2005 Oakton, 2006 Osbourn, 2007 Westfield, 2010 Battlefield.

That's 7 state championships in 11 years, most of them in blow out games. Further more a Northern Region team has appeared in 10 of the last 11 state championships, can you say that about the eastern region? Finals appearences included Oakton '02, Robinson '04, Chantilly '06, Lake Braddock '09 and Centreville '11.

To say that Northern Virginia cannot compete with the undisciplined football down south and to the east is simply ignorant. Sure there are great teams from year to year, but the conversation shouldn't be about Northern Virginia holding its own, as you can see Northern Virginia football has been the dominant football in the state of Virginia.

You can talk D6 all you want. The schools in the Eastern region are smaller in enrollement, and the better schools are D5. Thats not to say we dont have good D6 schools, but the better teams are D5.The northern Va schools are huge. Westfield Centreville Lake Braddock Chantilly Robinson Oakton, all have about 2500 plus stdents.

If you are going to talk championships, we have dominated 1990s-2011.
With the exception of maybe the Westfield 2003 team, any of the D5 schools would have beat the D6 schools in the Northern region in any of those years.
Phoebus and Hampton dominate every year, if you take your best D6 team, they wouldnt beat the best of those 2 teams in almost any year.

I am not bad mouthing the Northern region, they have very good programs, but the 757 is the truth.

newgatedenizen:

my prior em notes the good NR teams from other years, e.g., Robinson, Oakton, W'field, C'ville and Stone Bridge.

before coming back to NVA, i spent time in mil. in ER, saw many games and was struck by how deep each the competition was within each conference from top to bottom. that was why the ER seemed more like the SEC. One exception in NR is Concorde; they clearly are among the best in VA from year to year.

if we're counting titles, we probably should look at D5, too, and other measures like recruiting. ER has won maybe 11 of 12 D5s. With Phoebus wining 5 of 6, it's hard for people in NVA to see ER's other good teams. I was there for part of the streak, saw good teams from Hampton and Newport News and saw Phoebus do ok vs. D6 teams. As for recruiting, NR has many good athletes, but area code 757 has been the state's hotbed for years. that was one reason why UVA hired Coach London.

NR constantly fields a tough champion in D6 and D6. Next year, as usual, I will try to get to as many Concorde games as possible. South County was tough this year in D5, but you could see they were rattled in the first quarter and are losing close to 20 starters.

If you think there will be some other good teams in NR D6 or D5, please let me know and I'll try to see them play next year. I just like watching the sport live ... high school or college but not so much pro.

Listen here you dumbass.
youre prolly someone who has never played this sport or good enough to play it at a competitive level. You dont understand what it takes to be great. Centreville had an off game. They beat the #1 team in the state Herm. South County lost the turnover battle. Two less turnover and they win the game hands down. Yes the eastern region teams won, maybe they deserved to win? but you wanna say they are dominant. They are the SEC? Fuck off. Your kids are prolly fat anyways. Get outta here with this eastern region shit.

I probably shouldn't waste my time with this idiot, but if the truth be told when Ekanem went down the game plan that Cville worked on all week got blown up. Not only did we lose a the most dominate player on the field, but he plays a position that no one else had practiced or could play. Without being able to get pressure on the QB and the Cville DBs manned up, Smith was able to score quickly. Playing from behind is not Cvilles strong suit. Turnovers added to the problems. Had the game gone according to plan it would have been a totally different outcome, lower scoring with a lot more ball control (running the ball for you Eastern Region guys). Remember Ekanem is also our All Region Tight End as well.

I am not saying we would have won, just saying it would have been a totally different ball game with Ekanem playing. He got hurt sacking the Smith QB!

How about this, Oscar Smith was just the better team!

I believe the score was 13-2 with Ekanem. No doubt he is a difference maker, however, OS had alot of weapons.

I liked your running game number 5 was very good.
The passing game had 22, 23 they were good, but the QB was not, he couldnt get them the ball.
He looked scared and not very athletic. He couldnt make any of the normal throws Qbs should make. That why you are not a very good come from behind team.

Congratulations on a great season!

Who cares about who has the better football teams? The eastern region kids will be landscaping the northern region kids' lawns any ways in twenty or so years. Who has the higher sat scores? Certainly not the juvies from the beach.

Hey, Nova Rep you wrote:

Nova Rep, before you call somebody a "dumb ass," learn how to spell "probably" and how to use contractions. In the meantime:

1) SoCo gave up 4 catches, 152 yards and 2 TDs to #84. This kid lit up last year's title game so he was not an unkown. Even SoCo's coach said that he was the difference. Read his quotes and accept that turnovers weren't the only issue: http://www.dailypress.com/sports/highschool/dp-spt-phoebus-state-1211-20111210,0,3005400.story.

2) Great teams respond when tested. Phoebus did when it was 10-10 (after a good TD drive by SoCo) and O. Smith did when it was 21-9. That was the difference. Great teams tend to come from great programs. You might know about the Phoebus streak, its nat'l rankings, the Hampton four peat, and that O. Smith has won 2 of the past 4 in D6. Great teams have balance. When SoCo stopped the run, Phoebus took to the air. So did O. Smith with its back not healthy. Great teams have kids who play at the next level. ER is the #1 recruiting spot. Scan the recruiting wires and read coaches' quotes.

3) Yes, C'Ville had an "off" game Sat., and I sure hope that the injured player is ok. O. Smith played better, even though its RB was not 100% and it started out with a safey.O. Smith ended up ranked #99 nationally, losing only to #34 Gilman: http://highschool.rivals.com/viewrankhs.asp?ra_key=819. Phoebus was the only other VA team to get votes. C'Ville arguably deserved some. Its last 3 wins by 7 total points showed that they were battle tested.

4) The 757 is VA's recruiting hotbed because ER conferences tend to be deeper in talent from top to bottom. For example, connection to the 757 was a factor in hiring Coach London. Aside from Concorde, few districts up here go 3 teams deep. That makes NR more like the ACC. Typically, NR fields great champs--just like the ACC. Below the top two teams, it's often a different story. I've lived in both regions and have seen both play. At the top this year, I was awed by Westfield and C'Ville and SoCo's special run.

I live in NoVa and and am happy to meet up and watch some football. We'll need to wait until after the bowl games because one of my kids you suggested is "fat" is playing WR in the SEC, just like his dad did.

Nice comment, tits mcgee..... that team was a pack of beaners, i mean wolverines, i mean spics, i mean drug dealers, i mean mcdonalds workers, i mean burrito makers, i mean fuck it they may be good next year but their quarterback sucked the right nut and the running back sucked the left with their coach sucking the middle thing. best part about it was that at least they got good hygein training with sandusky which is unusual for mexicans from wet poo.

Don't sleep on South County next year. They are under a new coach that was able to put together a state championship team after being hired in July. There is no telling what he can do after an entire off-season.

Aside from the one LB, does South County have many people returning? People were saying it was mostly all seniors this year. It amazing what that Coach did, either that or it was the switch to D5, too.

What's the deal w/the guy who got arrested for intent to distribute? If the charges stick, will he ID recipients to get a lighter sentence and could those recipients include players from local HS programs? Things have been relatively quiet since the arrest so that's why I'm asking.
