Did anyone else get a letter "from" Connolly yesterday about the Monument Drive left exit on 66 West? Right now, it's only open during rush hour, but according to the letter, VDOT is agreeing to keep it open during non-peak hours as well. Huzzah!

No, it is because I live here that I know the term "rush hour" (singular) is dumb. We say "morning rush" and "afternoon rush" here. "Rush hour" is only relevant to small and medium cities where it really is only about an hour of road infrastructure tie-up.
So when people say "rush hour" I just want to know what particular part of the six or so "rush hours" we have of heavy congestion he or she is referring to. Just sayin'.

Looked it up today, no such refence on Connolly' site.
There is no such thing as rush hour on I66 anymore. It is more of a rush day. No matter what hour of the day, even on weekends it is backed up. What they need to do is keep the fukin shoulder lanes open all day. What is the damn idea of keeping them shut during some hours while traffic piles up like shit. If you have a lane, use it. Makes a big difference.

In the long run that can actually make it worse. There are virtually no shoulders on I-66, and if incident response has to get through all that because of a weekend fender-bender we have even more backups because clearing incidents takes so friggin long.
