TONY's PIZZA FAIRLAKES - DO THE TIPS IN THE TIP JAR GO TO TONY?

I go to Tony's in Fair Lakes once in awhile. Its average but better than delivery. I recently paid with credit card and left a tip. The cashier immediately put the slip in the drawer without removing the tip. I told the cashier that I left a tip so she would not forget. She said, "The tips go in the register at the end of the night"
When I inquired further, it was also corroborated by others behind the counter including the cooking staff. There are high schoolers and college kids working the counter.
To place tip jars on your counter and giving the public the impression that those responsible to get your order out fast do so in an expedient manner is just plain wrong. (TIP= TO INSURE PROMPTNESS).
Sorry Tony, if what they say is true (and the fact that they placed the credit card receipt with a tip right into the till suggests it is) then you are misleading your customers. It this is incorrect, then please write it on the jars that the employees are getting it. Please give the tips to your staff as is intended.

The salads at Tony's are pretty good. Everything else is kinda mediocre, but certainly not bad. Better than any chain pizza place. That said, I have no idea how the tips work there. I wish that tip = promptness, but sadly that seems not to be the case in this day any age.

? I've never seen any restaurant remove a tip on a credit card receipt...WTF are you expecting? Them pull it out and hand it to someone? I've always thought tips are for appreciation for a good job. If you want a slap on the ass for giving a tip, you won't get it. Just shut up and don't smear a restaurant just because you left $1.50 and didnt see it pulled out of the register. I am not associated with the restaurant, nor have I been there, but think its pretty obnoxious what you are doing or implying.

As a former restaurant bookkeeper (Not Tony's)
May not be anything harmful intended here. It's easy to split cash tips but not charged tips. Hugh difference in accounting. That one little transaction involves someone accounting for the original sale, profit on the item, sales tax on the item, separating the tip out, etc.... Not to mention that the credit card company charges Tony's a per cent on your credit card purchase. If all the tips are charged and not accounted for, that's a tax for profits on money Tony never had because it was tips and given to others. That being said, I'll bet the money does end up with the staff.

Clarifaction of my earlier post. Tips charged probably filter down at the end of the week once all the accounting is done. Unbelievable, I know you had good intentions but tips in "tip jars" are much eaiser if done with cash. I'm guessing you may have worked in a restaurant and that is why you felt the need to tip. Either way, rest assured, it will go to the staff.

The initial post specifically indicates that the staff was asked.
The staff said they do not get the tip.
99.99% of people never think to question where tips go.
Obviously she wanted the tip to go to staff. Her credit card tip did not go to staff which intiated the conversation which led to the staff saying they dont get it and it goes into register at nights end directly to the owner.
Does the public have the right to know where their tips wind up?

Yes, in answer to your question. All that was corrobated was that they go in the register, not if or when they are disbursed. I'd be surprised to find out that the tips ended up with management. Guess will have to wait to see if someone asks the staff the "right" questions.

No, but McDonald's would probably be a good gig. Don't think any of those owner are suffering, do you? Got a problem with small business? In answer to your question, actually I work for H&R block.

If your satisfied with the discussion, it's easy. Don't go back.

At the Vienna Inn, when I leave a tip on my credit card, they do pull cash out of the register, and put it in the tip jar (metal can). I guess the proprietor is willing to absorb the 3% credit card fee for the tip amount so that his staff gets what is properly theirs. If a dive like the Vienna Inn is able and willing to do that, I do not see why other establishments are not willing or able to do so as well. So, yes, I am expecting them to pull the tip money out of the register. Why is that an unreasonable expectation?

Always heard everyone at Starucks was offered health insurance. Is that true?

I am a fan of Tony's and their family is very nice. They hire high school students and other people who are there to make a good buck. Always crowded. Come to Tony's and try something new. I do not work there but I would like to keep prices low and more people the less things cost. You should also check out that swimsuit picture near the carryout register though. Seems a little creaper to have kids posing in their bathsuits. Other than that, everything is good. Onion rings are good too. Call ahead for takeout and you will get out of there fast and if it is too much food they can help you carry to car if you need help. That is service.

You are so right. I didnt know that. That a tip on credit card gets a percentage goes to the credit card company. That is wrong because they do not service me the credit card company.

I waited tables in college and the restaurant owner pulled cash out BUT calculated after-card-fees before handing it over. I always thought that was an asshole move but now that I am older I see how it makes sense. At the time I did have customers ask if tip should go on the bill or cash on the table and I always told them cash on the table because of that.

That's BS. Credit card fees are a cost of doing business. Restaurants should pay their wait staff the gross amount.

Because there is no "Tony". Just proves that all of you know so much about someones business. People love that place. You dont, I am sure they are not to worry, they'll do just fine. And their employees all see very happy and smile when we go in there. Sick and tired of workers complaining. Look at all the laid up people.

I know for a fact that Tony's does not split the tips with the staff. I know becuase my son worked there and NEVER received a tip nor did any of his friends who were working there also. I have encouraged anyone that I could NOT to put a tip in the jar because the kids that work there never get it...the owner does.

This post just reminds me of a restaurant in Springfield Mall, the guy who work there who I assume did most of the work started talking to me and my friend. He seems to be friendly after talking probably for a minute or so he asked us if we were going to leave a tip? Then he proceeded to tell us to please leave the tip hidden because most of the times the owner would take the tip. So I do think that there are some restaurant owners out there that don’t really care about their employees and what belongs to them and what not. Therefore I don’t go back to places like that.
