That is correct: a B.S. is not necessarily a degree in science,
and Bill Nye studied Engineering (which is not "science").
Sarah Palin also holds a Bachelor Of Science degree, by the way.
Some things that are NOT science: Electrical Engineering,
Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Nye), Communications Palin),
and even Mathematics is not Science. Also not generally anything which
includes the word "Science" in the name, such as "Computer Science",
"Political Science", etc.
Also of course, a B.S. is not much of a qualification, and generally
does not involve research and publication. It's more of a ticket that
indicates you have an interest in learning about something.
A "real scientist" normally has a PhD (the granting of which requires
the publishing of a unique contribution to their field, called a "thesis".)
Normally one would have a PhD, along with maybe a dozen peer-reviewed papers.
Bill Nye's primary qualification is that he is a Steve Martin impersonator.
He doesn't understand the things that he talks about, beyond the level
of a ninth grader. Of course, that works well for him, since his job is
to communicate what he understands about science to people who have the
comprehension and knowledge of about a sixth grader.
If you were to ask him to explain pretty much any pro-AGW science paper,
at the level of detail of the author, and critique it ---- or even ask
him basic science questions about the mathematics and methodologies they
used -- or even basic questions about experiments and statistics that any
first year graduate student knows .... I am sure he would be entirely unable
to answer. He would have heard some of the words, but would not be able
to explain them, let along communicate them to you.
Because he doesn't know shit.

Umm, you're the one who doesn't even know what basic college degrees are.
Don't feel too bad: most people are ignorant about that.
It's sad, and frightening, though.
