Lake Braddock Secondary School is pleased to introduce Mike Dougherty as the new Lake Braddock Secondary School Head Varsity Football Coach. Coach Dougherty has been teaching Health and Physical Education since 1995. He has taught in Louisa County, Prince Edward County, Loudoun, Prince William, and most recently Fairfax County.
Coach Dougherty brings a high degree of knowledge and experience to the Varsity Head Football coaching position, one that he has held at various schools since 2000. Coach Dougherty has consistently and creatively challenged student athletes to be successful in all aspects of their lives. He is dedicated and committed not only to the game of football, but also student achievement and teamwork.
Lake Braddock Director of Student Activities Karl Kerns said, “We are excited to start a new era of Bruins Football with Coach Dougherty. His passion for the game and working with young people is what impressed me the most. He supports our philosophy of multi-sport athletes and the vision of Lake Braddock Secondary School.”
Principal Dave Thomas said, “I’m looking forward to starting a new era of Bruin Football with Coach Dougherty. We are thrilled about his emphasis not only on our winning tradition, but also his focus on building leaders and citizens in our school community.”
Coach Dougherty comes to Lake Braddock from WT Woodson High School in Fairfax, where he led the Cavaliers to two 6A Region playoff berths in 2015 & 2016. Prior to that he was the head coach at Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, where the team earned Cedar Run District Champions in 2012, and in 2013 Conference 8 Champions. Stonewall Jackson also qualified as a state quarterfinalist under his direction. In addition to football, Coach Dougherty has coached baseball and softball.
Coach Dougherty resides in Fairfax County with his wife, Jennifer, who is an FCPS teacher, and their children, daughter Logan and son Drew. Both are students at WT Woodson, where Logan is a junior and Drew is a freshman.
