RESTON, VA — Reston Town Center bike shop The Bike Lane said in a recent post on Facebook that they would be looking for a different location in Reston after RTC manager Boston Properties introduced paid parking beginning Jan. 3.
In the meantime, the shop will offer in-store credits and gift cards to compensate customers who have to eat a $2 per hour fee, and they are reminding them that parking is free on weekends and holidays -- and always free when you take your bike.
"We believe in providing our customers with an amazing shopping experience and we do not agree with charging for parking," the shop said in a Jan. 4 Facebook post. "We are actively looking to relocate The Bike Lane in or around Reston and we will keep you updated about our future plans as they progress."

Self-righteous bitches. It's a BIKE SHOP! Paid parking should PROMOTE bicycle useage as an alternative means of getting around. Fairfax County-ist assholery.

Bike shops in Reston have very clique type customers. Especially in Reston which is a biking community. They can spot a ripoff of Reston values a mile away.

Reston is a "biking" community? Reston is a "planned" community? Restonites have "values"? Seriously, I don't know what the fuck you are talking about or where to start.
Reston is biking community owing to the fact that if you are willing to bike for two hours you can get to either Arlington or Leesburg. As far as Reston being a "planned" community, any and all connecting roads are as haphazard and slapdash as any other community in Western Fairfax.
I have never in my life seen a "biking community" with more parking garages than Reston. Looks like all the bikers take their cars to work to me . . . but I must be mistaken since this is a "biking" community".
What do Reston's residents really value? I suppose they want to live in an "urban" environment but can't afford to live in Southeast DC . . . Why the fuck would a sentiant human adult walk more than 20 feet to a stupid chain store?
I just don't see any redeeming quality whatsoever in Reston.
> I just don't see any redeeming quality whatsoever

Indeed. Though all the parking garages may be because lots of people who don't live in Reston THINK it's a nice place.
My experience, which exemplifies quintessential Reston to me:
Many years ago, I was walking out of a fast-food establishment in Reston. I had a baby carrier in one hand, a bag of food and a drink in my other hand, and a diaper bag over the other shoulder.
I used my hip to open the door, turned to wedge the baby carrier through the opening--and some dipshit Restonian hipster said "Thanks" and walked through the door. He was empty-handed, of course.
I still wish I'd accidentally slipped and dumped the drink on him.

I still don't understand why she's complaining. She was holding the door open and a man walked through. He even thanked her as he did, which is more than polite enough.

No, she has a point. You two who responded are damaged. In many places, it would be inherently understood that you can delay yourself for a moment to allow this young mother to pass the door.
This is a small but significant example of how crazed people can become - how insular, from job stress, driving stress, or whatever.
And, Reston sucks. I lived (rented a room, not owned) in a very nice little community of the snobbiest, most scared, alienating people imaginable. And one was affiliated with pro soccer, and thought he was the shit in his SUV.
There ARE urban communities in the Eastern United States where people can and DO use bicycles as an alternate means of commuting. Of course it depends on the weather, but at least the option is there. So this devotion to bikes here is a lot of fluff. For casual riding, who can't do maintenance at home. They probably pay through the nose for the basics.

Yo, dipshit -- when someone is struggling to get through a door with hands full, including a baby, only a flaming asshole would walk through instead of acting like a human being and taking the goddamned door and holding it.

The other day I towed a BMW out of Reston town center and it had the bumble bee suction cup on the windshield that the RTC employees had put there.
The douche car owner shows up and pays the 170 bucks to get his car and we give it to him with the bee thing still stuck on the windshield. He wants us to remove it so I tell him he has to get RTC employees to remove it. The douche guy is getting all frustrated so I tell him to get his car off my impound lot or start paying for storage. I offer to tow his car back to RTC for another 125 bucks which is a discounted rate. He gets all pissed off, it was really funny. He had one of my competitors come and tow it away LOL!

Its, reasonable bruh to be outraged you moron. Go out there and go to a bar or restaurant and tack on 6 or 8 dollars every time....no thanks its RTC feels a bit soulless anyway with the carpet baggers and 30 something tech chumps.

Frankly, besides the theater, most of RTC sucks dick. This was before I knew about the charge of parking, which kind of makes sense since it is close to the silver-line. Still, I rarely went to the theater over there since there are better theaters in Herndon. Hell, the regal out in Sterling is better.

Two bucks an hour is nothing to the sorts people who make RTC go. Especially when so many get-out-of-jail-free cards are available simply by buying something. This concept seems to elude the types that Boston Properties is trying to get rid of.

Went to a customer event at National Harbor last night (Saturday Night). Was only there for a few hours and had to pay $12 for parking (WTF!?). RTC charging a few bucks to keep commuters out during the week suddenly does not seem all that outrageous.
Just went to RTC for the last time, other than Sat/Sun. I don't necessarily mind paying to park, though the transparent falsehoods about the reasoning are irritating.
Given an unwillingness to install the app, I was prepared to pay at a machine. But the machine requires you to set up a "login". Um, no. I have enough logins without adding another one.
But hey, I was picking up food at a restaurant that validates, so no problem, right?
Keep the pain going, folks. Teach RTC a lesson they will not forget.

"Stores and restaurants said paid parking is hurting their business. Some offer to subsidize parking for visitors.
“The traffic has been way down,” said Aaron Mervis, a partner with Big Bowl restaurant. “People are upset, and they are boycotting the center as a whole.”
