Paying with cash... Used to be, you could top if off, go inside, and pay what you owed. Is that still the case? I went to get gas tonight and felt like paying cash. It wasn't posted on the pump but the guy inside said to pay first or leave a deposit if I wanted to top it off. I just paid with my credit card, as usual. Are there any stations left that let you pump the gas before paying?

All of them technically do but its up to the guy in charge to decide whether to allow you to do that.

Most stations require you to pay before pumping. Makes it harder for people to leave without paying. Been this way for a long time in the Metro DC area.

i think cash prepay is fairly standard anymore. think about it -- what would you infer about a person's trustworthiness is he pays for stuff with cash?

I was at a gas station in Yellowknofe, Northwest Territories (look it up you, geographical retards) and got gas at an unmanned gas station. You either paid by credit at the pump or pumped the gas and slipped cash through a slot.

If you pumped and didn't pay, nobody would have known but then again, people in a remote Canadian community aren't assholes like they are around here. I bet that gas station owner could count on one hand how many times he didn't get paid over the course of a year.

lessee. when i worked at a gas station ...

there were a couple of no pay run offs ! just a few, not hardly on the stick i'd guess. boss was really more angry about water getting in the gas when the tanker filled up in the rain and left lid wrong.

and even employees doing check fraud went un-noticed ...

used to be at one time i had to do part or full service on every car to make sure no one got away without paying ! but that didin't last long.

If you have a loyalty card with the gas station, that gives you the option of pump-first. "Begin pumping or insert credit card".

I’ve been driving for 17 years and have always been required to pay before pumping even with cash. The one time my mother found a station that didn’t require this she went in and bought extra items after filling up her car. Totally forgot til the next day. She went in that morning and tried to pay and was accused of stealing by the cashier and the manager on duty. She just wanted to make it right. I think it happened more than we realize when gas was over $4 a gallon and that’s why prepay was put in place.

Too many negroes took advantage of a business courtesy, so now yes all stations are pay prior for this reason.

I have been driving for 50 years and I never have to pay first.
I just swipe my Sheetz/Wawa/Speedway/Shell (Giant0 loyalty card first.

I usually also swipe my credit card after that, because, Why Not?
But it gives me the option to pump first and pay in case inside after if I want.

Since anyone can have one of those cards just for asking, I don't know what your problem is. You don't even have to put real information on the card or anything.

Plus you get a few pennies off each gallon.

So I have no idea what the fuck your problem is.
