I'll save this thread some trouble...

"No one knows what a good hot dog is."

"I make the best hot dogs in my backyard."

"Too expensive for what you get"

"Their cheap and terrible but I keep eating them for some unexplainable reason."

Is it a sign of how weak the choices are for me to say that Fuddruckers and Costco used to be decent? Unfortunately the one has closed and the other seems to have switched from Hebrew Nationals to their in house brand.

It's a trick question, there is no best hot dog, it inherently a crappy food. Floor scrapings stuffed into a tube with a bunch of preservatives.

I agree, Vienna Inn has the best in Ffx County. They are turkey dogs boiled in beer, covered in cheese/chili/mustard/etc. Also great beer selection and hometown feel to it.

Costco dogs are too big too greasy and too much garlic.

Hot dogs are like pizza. There are nearly endless varieties and flavors and close to all of them have something good to say. Dogs at VI are indeed very good. Usually get two all the way and then two more all the way when those are done. Need room on the table for the pitcher and the gravy fries. Another good bet is a (deep-fried) Coney Island with everything at Santini's in Oakton. Not going to do four of those, though.

Vienna Inn Chili Dogs.

Their Chili Mac, burgers and fries are also very good.

The NC Pull Pork sandwich is pretty good and the steak and cheese is a monster.

Not sure if the kids or the adults in our household like the Inn better?

Everyone in the house is always up for an Inn run!

That said , If you want to start a decent thread on here. You need to get people who are familiar with the place and have been , to go back and post pictures of what they draw with the crayons on the table mats. God knows what people on here would be posting. Would be entertaining for sure.

Statistically, it has to be the Chantilly gun show. More hot dogs are consumed there during each show than throughout the rest of Virginia combined.

Check them out during the next show and let us know.

>They closed the checker on RT 1 last week,

Thats not good news.Wonder what will go there next. Hope its something good.

I would stop now and then for a chili dog , they were cheap and good. Quite a surprise they have closed.

Them Kraut Dogs are Sabrett "New Yorks favorite dirty water hot dogs" From the many hot dog carts there with the hot water tanks and umbrellas

Sabrett is NYC's favorite hot dog. and they are best boiled in cheap beer.

The Nathens hot dogs are similure and although they are a favorite with the Nathens stand on Coney Island they are Chicago's favorite hot dog. They are best grilled or BBQed not as good boiled.

I like em with good mustard and the kraut, I put some canned kraut in a pan with a little water heat it and drain it. The kraut has way too much salt in it.

I got the dogs at Food Lion, They were at Costco in a big bag for about 12 dollars might still be, BJ's has large packs of the Nathens, and the Wegmans Snappys are good also.

Quantity does not equal quality. According to your rationale, McDonalds has the best hamburgers in Fairfax and Pizza Hut has the best pizza. Statistically, you are an idiot.

Perhaps it's just not enough cabbage, as cabbage and salt are the only two ingredients in sauerkraut.

Listen slappy. You should see the apes at these gun shows chow these things down. They have to be the best. There's just no other logical explanation for the ferocity at which they are consumed. None whatsoever. I mean it.

About 7 years back I got a hot dog at V.I It had a green cast to it just a little bit. I ate it anyway.

7-11 has good classic hot dogs cheap. The small ones that is. Why they dont have half smokes anymore?? I dont Get it. DC is the Half Smoke capitol.

Remember when they were putting red dye in hot dogs.. to make them look like rare meat?? God I hated that Red Dye #3 or something 40 some years back..YUK!

Guy that invented that came up with another winner later, New Coke.

Years ago the very best hot dogs ever where the ones you got as a kid.. at a baseball game.

A&W's weiner nuggets! I also used to really like Arthur Treacher's batter dipped hot dogs, I think they were called crunch pups.

However the best of all time would have to be Lum's hot dogs, boiled in beer. I've never found another hot dog as good as those were.

Weenie Beenie in Shirlington has the best hot dogs and half smokes in the entire region. The atmosphere is somewhat lacking as you will be surrounded by day laborers and sketchy looking people as you order through that little hole in the wall. Most of the employees have ankle mounted tracking devices bearing the Arlington county sheriff's office logo. The food is out of this world awesome.

Lived not far from the Lum's in Falls Church for a while. The dogs were great, the sauerkraut was great, the beer was cold. Nothing much else about the place seemed to matter. Didn't realize at the time how good I had it!

Not Fairfax but well known to those from Fiarfax who go to UVA or Va Tech as they drive past at 60 per. A joint on Rt 29 at Rt 17 across from the Sheetz and a 1/4 mile from Clark Bros on the same side.

Petes Park and Eat. Dont ask me about the pizza or subs never had them , but for many years I have stopped to get Petes Cult like chili dogs..

Their secret .. Cheapsters..a cheap hot dog with some canned hot dog sauce , but they use a hot dog roll thats now becoming famed as the roll for a lobster roll. There flat on the sides and they grill them a bit on each side.

A tasty cheapo like a Jack in The Box Taco.. about 1.50 .

Wegmans has the rolls there called New England rolls now. They have been round a long time.

A pack of the cheapest hot dogs, boil em up and some canned sauce, Texas Pete , Castleberry what not your good to go on a grilled "New England " roll.

The pic is a copy of a Petes Dog cheap and good.

Howard Johnson's used to serve their grilled hot dogs on a grilled on both sides split-top New England-style roll. Really good, they were.

Anyone been to Haute Dogs and Fries (www.hautedogsandfries.com)? Looks yummy (but then, so do the pictures on frozen dinners, and in Denny's ads...)
