The "Roadside America" website is devoted entirely to the sort of attractions you're looking for. Here's their page on Virginia: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/location/va PS - I can personally vouch for the Masonic Temple tour.......It's weird, corny, and close by!

I don't think Lee-Jackson Day is particularly bad, but between 1984 and 2000 Virginia decided to roll the MLK holiday in with it. I've got to say, Lee-Jackson-King Day really ~IS~ a little over the top. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee%E2%80%93Jackson%E2%80%93King_Day "Lee–Jackson–King Day was a holiday celebrated in the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1984 to 2000. Robert E. Lee's birthday (Ja

I can tell you don't know too much about VDOT! Nearly *EVERYTHING* they do is politically driven! Regarding the intersection of Braddock & Pleasant Valley R

Here's copy of a 1915 USGS map showing the general Clifton area. The Bunnyman Bridge is on the right side of the image. The "county farm/poor house" would have been on the left center. It's amazing how the current roads follow the old dirt paths shown in this image, hairpin turns and all. Attachments:

Blue Iguana and Coastal Flats are my first thoughts, with Blue Iguana being the closest to Fair Lakes. http://www.theblueiguana.com

Messing with airport traffic, indeed. I've got to drive BWI in Baltimore on Saturday morning to drop off some relatives for an 11:30 am flight. The only two feasible ways to get there are I-95 and the BW Parkway...both of which are going to be experiencing "major delays" during the exact time we need to be on the road. I can tell you that if the commuters in this area had to experience this sor

I would not hesitate to recommend Tibbs Paving. They recently paved our 3/4 mile long private gravel road just outside of Clifton and did an excellent job at an extremely competitive price. They also did four private driveways and one small parking lot in our neighborhood. Get an estimate from co-owner "Tim" and then compare their price to other companies. http://www.tibbspaving.com/

You can find all sort of information (including maps, fishing reports, a chat room, and a message board) by exploring the "Potomac Bass Fishing" web page at this location: http://www.potomacbass.com/ Also, the "Inside NOVA" newspaper prints a weekly fishing report that you can find online. Here's the report from this past Friday: http://www2.insidenova.com/sports/2011/jun/23/fishing-report-ar-

Yep, it was "Handy Dandy Market #3", as I recall. I don't know where H-D Market #2 is/was, but the original Handy Dandy Market (#1) is still open in Woodbridge, at the corner of Occoquan Road and Horner Road.

Back in the '60s we would call their pre-recorded phone message for a laugh. They changed it weekly, but it was always some rant against some minority or another. It was good for a laugh, but in retrospect it was pretty damn offensive.

I've used Carter Fence several times and have been happy each time. Good price, fast, and extremely good quality. Do NOT use Long Fence.......shoddy materials and poor workmanship.

Marco Polo is your classic Greek-owned diner-type restaurant, completely with cheesy Classical Greek interior decor. They have an extremely varied menu, but unfortunately they don't make anything on it very well. If you eat here, stick to the breakfast menu!

We have been using the AAA "big blue recycling bin" for over a year with no problems. Much easier than the old yellow baskets. I still have the old yellow baskets....AAA will pick them up if you want, but I just hung on to them and store garden supplies, kindling wood, etc., in them..

I've been to Auld Shebeen in Fairfax City and was definitely not impressed with the food. Nice bar, though. Kate's in Springfield had very good food. It's not too fancy, but is a well established place. I'll bet that it has a large cadre of "regulars" that have been coming there for decades.
