Yes, the old babysitter story again. Many families in Polo Club conveniently found babysitters in Fox Mill or other local schools to avoid Dogwood. Just a different kind of pupil placement. And then you wanted to go to Carson to be with your friends - wow, how is that any different from the current 8th graders at Carson or Franklin with regards to next year at their high school who want to be wi

I'm confused too. We lived in Polo Club, and the school pyramid was Dogwood and Langston Huges, not Fox Mill and Carson. How did Stephanie get to attend Fox Mill and Carson instead of the neighborhood pyramid for Polo Club? And another consideration for that neighborhood going to South Lakes is that it is part of Reston, whereas Fox Mill is not. And back then, there was no Fairfax County Parkway

Although I don't think the option passed by the SB last night specifically states anything using the term "grandfather", the Appendix B that was submitted by staff to describe the details of the option spcifically states that phasing would start with 9th graders in the 2008-2009 year. So that sounds like students already at their current high schools will stay there, as the approved option contai

Now that you mention State Dept. families, we had neighbors in Polo Club in the mid-90s who were so unhappy with South Lakes they took an assignment in Pakistan in order to get their daughter out of the school. They didn't realize what they were getting into when they moved to Reston from their previous posting.

Not only that, there are many folks who may not be redistricted who hate how this whole process has unfolded, and would be willing to assist those who may be adversely affected by this situation. We have several good friends that may be affected, and if they need an address or room to help them out, we're all for it.

Darrell Green took this route to get his son onto the Oakton football team a few years back - renting in the area while still maintaining his residence in Loudoun County. The situation was even investigated due to a complaint about him not being an eligible player, and it was determined to be without merit - multiple residences are perfectly acceptable - or at least they were a couple years ago.

Well option 5 is definitely on the South Lakes PTSA Website with talking points. If that isn't advocating a position, I'm not sure what else would need to be done for advocacy. Especially when the PTSA's Ms. Allen's comments to channel 4 correspond with the talking points. And as far as not getting the real option presented in this meeting with the first 4 options, that shouldn't surprise anyone

Neen - I posted this earlier today. It has all the talking point documents put out by the South Lakes PTSA - you'll see that Brian above pretty much posted option 5. Re: high school redistricting Posted by: sos (IP Logged) Date: December 03, 2007 03:32PM Everyone should go check out the following website for the South Lakes PTSA - (the school that says "Where they come from, we don't mind.

Brian - It's commendable that you have spent so much of your free time devoted to something you believe in. You have done an excellent job supporting the new option 5 from the South Lakes PTSA Talking Points document. To everyone else - Obviously everyone now needs to make sure their own current or prospective high school student also sends their wishes to the boundary study email so that ever

For those that want to check out a blurb about the NBC4 piece: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22087737 some excerpts: The chief operating officer of Fairfax County Schools said Monday's meeting was to gather information only and doubts any of the four options will be the final options. Parents from Westfield and Oakton High have launched a movement to freeze the redistricting effort altogether,

Was I under the wrong impression that one of the goals of this redistricting was supposedly to alleviate overcrowding at Westfield? Do the new unofficial options address this?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with South Lakes being organized and trying to do what they think is best for their students. Merely trying to point out that at one point they are stating they will welcome any students from anywhere and have no stake in this fight, according to their PTSA President, yet now they suddenly seem to have a preference, and it's a totally new option. And the comment

And for thpse of you at Crossfield, you probably want to know that rumor has it that Floris is putting together another option, (should we consider this option 6?), that has Crossfield going to South Lakes, and Navy moving to Oakton. Should be a fun meeting tonight folks.

Everyone should go check out the following website for the South Lakes PTSA - (the school that says "Where they come from, we don't mind. It's not our battle to fight). http://www.southlakesptsa.org/boundaries.htm On this website is a pdf document just posted this weekend with their talking points for the four options and it is is one of these documents where they are proposing a fifth option

Was wandering back through various articles on this subject and found these 2 quotes from the Sept. 21 Observer. Stuart Gibson, Hunter Mill district representative on the school board, said community members who attend these three meetings will "drive the solution." "The process is driven by the input of the community members who attend the meetings," Gibson said. "One of the benefits of doin
