"many parents who are fearful and/or elitists will accept their child attending a school with a high low income and/or minority population if they are essentially attending a "school within a school" (e.g., tracking, magnet programs, etc.) such that the child has limited meaningful contact with those children the parent does not want his/her child to interact with or be influenced by. That's why

"You just made a condescending post about volunteering at South Lakes, which I didn't respond to but wanted to so badly. It's ok for you to say negative things, but South Lakes parents must never respond. Is that the case?" My comment was intended to point out that the volunteering issue (and I was responding to a SL parent who said that the stay-at-home parents and self-employed did most or nea

"A related phenomenon is the athletes who can't get home on game day before warm-ups or the bus's departure for an away game and were scrounging for left overs from the meals the coaches bought themselves. The coaches asked parents to put meals together for the whole team so that everybody was fed before the game, no one was embarrassed and team unity is enhanced. Unfortunately with most families

"Neen does not seem to understand that the parents redistricted to South Lakes will have input into the curriculum." If my child starts there this fall, what impact will I have and when? If the current SL parents haven't been able to get rid of IB, why will a few new parents fare any better? If the majority of the vocal SL parents like IB, then we have no chance at all.
