Herndon is one of the area's best kept secrets - we're all just out "doing" rather than writing about it. I think this place got a bad rep as an old rundown town but now there are free concerts two nights a week, the historic district is revitalizing with pretty houses being built next to people fixing up old houses, a new arts center and gallery just opened downtown and more young professionals are moving to town because of the short commute to dulles corridor jobs and the metro is coming!

I'm new in Herndon (3.5 years) and am amazed that some of the old timers don't see how awesome this place is. This is a dream location where you can walk to great cafes representing food from around the world, take in a free concert, a free art exhibit, go to a little theatre performance, ride your bike on a "rails to trails" bike trail (W&OD) AND buy a house for 5-15% less than the surrounding areas.

I have to say - I know Herndon has issues but they are dwarfed compared to the future possibilities of this place. It is ripe to be the most happening town in Northern Virginia in the near future. Money Magazine sees it. I see it. My 20 and 30 something friends see it ... hopefully residents who have been here through the hard times will see it soon too!
