The Herndon Observer went out of business

According to this article in another local paper, the Herndon Observer went out of business. I can't believe it.

It was bought out some years back, as I recall. I think the original owners cashed in and retired. There is a lot of competition. I'm not too surprised under new management that went out of business. It was down to a dozen or less pages.

Mark, the original owner was Peggy Vetter in the 70s. Then the Greins bought it, and ran it for many years. They retired about 10 years ago, and sold it to their children, who have been the ones running it the last several years.
I think the shrinking newspaper industry/growth of the internet is what did it in. There are just too many other sources for advertising, and the Observer wasn't getting enough ad revenue anymore.
