The Meadows of Centreville

The Meadows kind of gets a bad reputation for guilt by location. The Meadows is located near the now razzed “Sunset Knolls”. This neighborhood is constantly changing for the better. If you want to know more about The Meadows go visit their website at http://www.mymeadows.net. You might be surprised what you find.

I'm confused, I thought I saw they tore both of those places down, Sunset Knolls and the Meadows. So the meadows homes are still standing?

Old time Meadows Rez here - my family moved there when I was 3 in 1977. It was a great place to grow up and even though things are very different now there are certainly much worse places in Centreville to live!

As a two year Meadows resident, I can say it was nice seeing the Sunset Knolls razzed, removed, demolished, erased from existence. I am sure the roaches had a long road to find new housing! But, getting back to The Meadows, I am sure there have been many good times had here. There are many more to come too! Anyone can concentrate on a negative, what good is it to concentrate on a negative if you’re not going to do anything about the problem. I have good neighbors and we are collectively doing something about the problems that Centreville has!

The Meadows was a nice place to live, however, now there are a lot of dayworkers hanging out and quite a few overcrowded residences. The Board of Directors is out of touch and needs to be replaced. The opportunity to vote is NOW! Get rid of the oldtimers and vote for the new faces!

Anyone living at the Meadows play ball at the court towards the end of the neighborhood away from the library?

The board was out of touch, but the replacements are no better. They are now a power-hungry group of petty idiots. The meadows was a great place to live 10 years ago, but it is going down hill.

I've lived in the meadows for quite a while. I have gone to board meetings on occasion but it is a tough atmosphere. I do agree that there are some bad eggs that have nothing better to do than trying to feel important. There are a few that are really great. The board president is such a sweet guy, but I can tell he has been beaten down by other idiots and is ready for his term to expire. I don't know him well enough to approach him. I want him to stay. The crime is way better than in the past and we have our own patrols now.

I agree with KatyBug36 for the most part. But I want to add that there is a board member that has been suing the neighborhood for over a year, and she is still on the board! She has single handedly stacked the board with a couple friends in order to gain control and the other members have been fighting her the best they can. The problem is that she is a snake in the grass and WE voted her in, twice! So she cares so much for this place that she is suing the community/board, the swim team (seriously), another board member and a family member, two residents, and a former resident. She is discussing policy and procedures and dictating rules during all of this. But rumor has it she is moving away. Far away.

Aside from that the neighborhood is cool. Lots of kids and lots of people with pets. No crime that i've seen. But there is a house on my street that the cops seem to be there once a month in force. On the other end there is a guy that thinks he's the neighborhood bully. I don't think he works, he's a stay at home dad or something. Its a typical community with typical community stuff.

Katy - you should! Those few on the board seem to have finally realized the they can't force their way and have decided to start moving away! I wish I had the time to be a board of director as well. I'll vote for you. One of my neighbors went to the meeting a few months ago and said it was ridiculous how the new young guy (the puppet of you know who) was just ranting on something that was so out there. You could see the rest of the directors and attendees roll their eyes like they just knew to let him bark until they could move on.

I grew up in the Meadows (we moved here in the mid 70's!) and my parents still live there. It appalls me what is happening on the board now... and glad to hear the bad seed may be taking their business elsewhere. Good riddance. It has made life difficult for those who are really trying to make a difference in that neighborhood. It was truly a wonderful place growing up there in the 70s/80's.

I disagree with most of the posts here. The meadows board is mostly filled with incompetent people. The president is a moron and the vice president is delusional. The rats are overrunning the community, and I don't mean Mexicans. I mean actual rats! The board leadership fails to acknowledge this situation. The boarding houses are the same situation. The board is also confused about their responsibility to maintain the common area and thinks that the residents should do it; like its a townhouse community. I have never seen a more uneducated group of morons in my life. It's as if common sense is not a common practice there. The maintenance is shabby and to make matters worse the staff get 100% insurance coverage while most of the residents can't afford their next meal. Finally,if the current board could count without using their fingers and toes maybe things would be different, but they continually overpay for basic services; without question. This is a prime example of the contractors and lawyers telling the town idiots what to do.

I guess if you can get past the crime, prostitution, and drunks walking the streets it may be a great place to raise a family! Sarcasm intended.

I was looking in centreville for a new place and saw the prices in The Meadows are pretty low and decided to give it a look. However, after seeing the posts here and checking out their website and neighborhood, emphasis on HOOD, I chose to look elsewhere. The website says that they have condos with up to 15 transients, or basically they have a very bad overcrowding situation. It's not hard to see why either. I went in the morning to check out the area before work and there must have been 100 immigrants standing in front of the library about a block from the meadows. However, for a neighborhood to advertise a major disator like this in the website says that this must be the least of their concerns.....

PS: not sure why the comment soothsayer is appropriate. Seems like the other resident is telling the truth. They appear to have major issues they are dealing with or not.

Same old same old. Since 70's Meadows had a bad rep. At least they tore down some near the library.

I am a currently resident, and I am a tiny young white female with the same as a roommate. I AFFECTIONATELY call it the ghetto. Yeah, it's a neighborhood of first-generations. Who cares? Kids leave their bikes outside every night and nobody touches them. It's "ghetto" because we aren't rich over there. It's not "ghetto" like i'm gonna get raped and robbed. I lived in Norfolk. I have no problem walking at night around here. Also, the housing set-up is pretty deterrent to burglars unless you're on the bottom floor. Who is going to walk up a winding flight of stairs ABOVE my one neighbor and NEXT to the other to break in? A dumbass who will get attacked by my dog and then shot, but hey. I'm not expecting it to happen.
